Gabriel Jesus (£9.2m) and Aymeric Laporte (£6.0m) have been left out of the Manchester City squad to face Southampton in Gameweek 14.

The club released an official statement with their Saturday team-sheet which explained the two players were “not fully fit” for the trip to St Mary’s Stadium.

“Sergio Aguero is amongst the substitutes for Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Southampton, but Gabriel Jesus and Aymeric Laporte are not fully fit and have been left out of the matchday squad.” – Manchester City press release

Sergio Aguero (£10.3m) is still only ready enough for a place on the bench so it looks to be either Raheem Sterling (£11.4m) and Ferran Torres (£6.9m) occupying the centre-forward role from the start this afternoon.

Bernardo Silva (£7.4m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) complete the front-four, with Riyad Mahrez (£8.4m) left on the bench for the second successive Premier League match.

John Stones (£4.8m) earns his place back, starting alongside Ruben Dias (£5.6m) at centre-back, with João Cancelo (£5.5m) starting for the fourth match in a row, Kyle Walker (£6.2m) at right-back.

Southampton are in their traditional 4-2-2-2 shape, Danny Ings (£ and Che Adams (£ leading the line with Theo Walcott (£ and Moussa Djenepo (£ providing the width.

Southampton XI: A McCarthy; Bertrand, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Walker-Peters; Djenepo, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Walcott; Ings, Adams.

Manchester City XI: Ederson; Cancelo, Stones, Dias, Walker; Rodrigo, Gündogan; Torres, De Bruyne, B Silva; Sterling.

Was going to lose Cancelo to raise funds for another transfer, but he keeps getting points. Too early to lose DCL for someone like Adams?

In the team? Sure. But Robertson is doing better this season and has actually taken more indirect freekicks and corners over him now. There's no contest in open play. So robbo is a better option. I guess direct freekicks could still help u.

Is a triple up off Robertson, Salah and firmino wise over the festive season?

Firminho isn't a good fantasy asset IMO. Go cheap up top and get TAA if you want a triple up.

That's a fair point, I'd love another good striker to partner kane, if Rashford keeps his form I'd also be tempted, he looked good against Sheffield United

Thoughts? Let's be honest, it's a real kick in the nutz when you see your keepers / defenders clean sheet points whipped off your FPL score after they concede late in the game...

Clean sheet points are "in play" and therefore not consistent with other points that are generally locked in - goals, assists, minutes played, yellow cards etc (barring them being overturned)

I would much prefer it to be consistent and get the morale boost of seeing them added afterwards (or if they are subbed with clean sheet intact...) rather than the disappointment of having them there and then removed!!!

Can't bench a defender playing for the best defence (statistically) in the league mate. Wrong call imo.

      1. Flair
        • 5 Years
        5 years, 6 months ago

Disagree, Lamptey was a better option this week. More likely I could have benched him for James but either way, CS fairly fortunate

          • 5 Years
          5 years, 6 months ago

Play 4 at the back? Or you shouldn't be having a benching headache like that. Dias wasn't fortunate, they have a very good defence and have been relying on it. Lamptey not a bad choice, but surely both could have played, both good fixtures

Is Henderson (Pool) an actual FPL option? He has proven before in the past that he can be At 5.4 he is a nice price, could be a 3rd Pool option in 19.
Could be a pick right now, wont be surprised in the slightest to see him get returns in the coming weeks
