Scoutcast regular Seb Wassell, who finished 389th in the world in 2019/20, is the latest Pro Pundit to run through his dream Free Hit team.

I have used my own team as a template for this mock Free Hit squad, meaning that I have a budget of £105.9m (£102.6m + £3.3m in the bank) to work with, which accounts for the cheaper prices paid for players I already own and would keep for this Free Hit.

However, given the limited fixtures this week and the large funds most of us have available, I do not believe this is going to be unachievable for anyone.

The Squad

Should You Play the Free Hit?

This week’s poll on the Fantasy Football Scout website suggests that the most common maximum number of players managers expect to have available to them in Gameweek 29 without using the Free Hit but after transfers is nine, followed by eight. This poll of course skews towards the type of manager that not only regularly checks external Fantasy Premier League resources but actively engages with them. Therefore, it may be safe to assume the real mode is slightly lower, say six to seven available players.

If you fall below this threshold, the Free Hit looks like a wise move. If you do not, perhaps consider the possibility of saving it for Gameweek 33, when both Man City and Spurs blank, or for an as-yet-unannounced Double Gameweek.

Even if you have resolved to save the Free Hit, however, being aware of the players that those using the chip this week may pick in their ‘ideal team’ can be useful information in guiding your own selection decisions.

    Hi guys,

    Martinez/Sanchez
    Coufal Targett Dunk ???
    Son* Raphinha Grealish* ???
    Kane Antonio Bamford*

So this is the team I'm left with, having planned out my transfers for weeks to make sure I had 11 for GW29 (already used FH). I'm hopeful 2 from the 3 flagged make it, I'm going wildcard next week so not wanting to take a hit really if I can help it.

1 FT to make for either Gundo or Cancelo to someone playing this week. Thinking either Dallas, Lingard or curveball with Auba, what do we think?

      I would go Dallas

Think Im going Trossard over Lingard. Stats > Hype. Also better fixture in 33.

What about all the other weeks? With so much rotation your bench will be used a lot, if not every week. I am looking at the first slot on my bench as part of my main team

6 out of 9 weeks from 30-38 they play teams from bottom half of the table. And motivation is a huge factor for west ham. Spurs are out of Europe, if Liverpool are out soon too, that top 4/6 battle will be intense

            5 years, 4 months ago

Don't like raphinha? Fulham do keep clean sheets, but the stats are not that great. Raphinha looks like he has a haul round the corner too

I like him, but I prefer Odegaard, ESR and Saka, or perhaps Tierney and Auba (but less certain of minutes). Those are my next priorities before Raphinha and Lingard, right now 🙂 Nothing set in stone. I'll check out the news tomorrow

u playing 2 brighton defender instead of Lingard?

      1. Vlekz

50% chance of a cs looks good enough to me. I rather play all 3 or none at all. With my rank(265k), don't really have a lot to lose.
Having said that could lose maja or bale for lingard. But not sure with Antonio already in

    Cancelo + Salah > Dallas + Auba??

    2FT's, 0.5 spare.
Salah/Gundogan > Lingard, save the other FT.
Sound good? Gives me 9 players (although 2 are Son/Bamford)

    Martinez
    Dallas - Targett
    Raphinha - Son
    Kane - Watkins - Bamford

    Non Players:
DF: Stones - Rudiger - Shaw
MF: Salah - Gundogan - Bruno

Tempted but it sounds like there's a lot of uncertainty about future gameweek reshuffles. Extra FT would be nice to have then. No wildcard unfortunately.

Which 2 of the below transfers to go for (bearing in mind I have no WC or chips left):

    a) Gundo > Lingz
    b) Salah > Lingz
    c) Salah > Bale
    d) Salah > Auba
    e) Cancelo > Cresswell
    f) Just one of the above (if so, which)

    1. Atwood
      • 16 Years
      5 years, 4 months ago

Would the second one be a hit?

I'm leaning towards A. My reasoning is that Salah and Liverpool might be on poor form but he is at least guaranteed starts. Same can't be said of Gundogan, who I guess is higher risk higher reward.

So i've taken a -4 this week to get to this team. (no chips left)
Martinez, Dallas, Veltman, Cresswell, Bale, Son (inj), Raphina, Kane, Bamford (inj), Watkins = which is 10 if Bamford and Son play
Bench is Forster, KDB, Gundo, Shaw and Digne
is it worth a further hit to get someone in for Son as he is unlikely to start?

    1) Yes
    2) No

    if Yes who
    a) Auba
    b) Lingard
    c) Saka
    d) Grealish (I know hes injured too but hes more likely to play over Son)

    Martinez
    Konsa Coufal
    Soucek Raphinha Son*
    Kane Bamford

Don't know. Full week till the next game, but then it's busy again. Can see Lacazette starting this one, but perhaps depends more on tactics, so it's hard to second-guess Arteta.

You can't play everyone. I don't think they've played together since GW19, I think, and then Odegaard arrived, pushing ESR out wide. The best team includes only one of Auba and Laca, with Saka on the right. Arteta even plays Willian over playing both Auba and Laca together. Seems he wants someone to help break down packed defences (like West Ham). It's not impossible, but there doesn't seem to be an obvious reason to expect it.

Some fair points, but their best team only including one of Laca or Auba is purely your opinion...

And Arteta's seemingly. He's had plenty of opportunities to play them together.

That may well be true (might not, also) but what I'm simply saying is that there is fair reason to suggest the two might both start.

Most simple being, they are two of Arsenal's best attacking players. Subsequent to that, they can play together in that Auba is fine down the left with Laca up front.

I don't personally think there's much mystery to it! It's a perfectly reasonable possibility.

I am nicely chilled. It's just you asked 'why' a few times so I offered my 'why' (admittedly, firstly offering that I didn't think it particularly needed any deep 'why'). That's how this thing works, unless I've read the instructions wrong!

Yep, that might do it. I wouldn't gamble on Auba personally unless there's news to suggest he's a starter. There's also Pepe, and as Pukki mentions, there's Martinelli too, but he's probably more likely a cameo for Auba later in the game.

Doesn't seem too outlandish to me, Auba on the left and Lacazette through the middle.

Might not happen – might well not – but not sure the possibility needs loads of justifying.

Please help me with a better combination for gw29 and gw30? because I probably will WC on 31
    A. 2 Defender, my options are Dallas, Dawson, Targett, Dunk
    B. 1 Midfielder, my options are Lingard, Trossard, and maybe Lookman and Bale

it can be any other options, above just my thinking.
will probably take the -4 if necessary, try to attack my mini-league rival.

    Team Right now
    Martinez/Button
    Creswell/Cancelo/Dias/Pereira/Mitchell
    Salah/Son/Gundogan/Raphinha/B.Traore
    Kane/DCL/Bamford

Oh boy... looks like a hit for BGW29. I was willing to risk Son (and given tonight's drama I reckon Jose will play him if there's any chance), but now it's 9 + Son... Antonio is coming back into the fold!

Considering captaincy for Dunk instead of Kane after today's mess...

Could be a massive differiencial if it works out...

    Thoughts?

Makes FPL more stressful hoping for a goal from a set-piece and a clean sheet than having some one who can bang in the goals. Your choice.

Best forward in the league. Can sometimes have an off day. Newcastle are also fighting against relegation. Won't be a high scoring game v Brighton.

Do you think Dunk has more chance of scoring than Kane?
It's your choice of course and you seem to have sold yourself on Dunk, play your own game! I'm just saying you won't enjoy it 🙂

            Dunk doesn't have to score...clean sheet + BPS...gives 7 or points...goal is a bonus...

Yes I am selling myself but its fun lol

While that is true, you only have to look at the respective total points of the two (now and historically, ever) to see who – overall – has a significantly better chance of scoring more points.

(Mind you, I accept that doesn't account for the specifics of this situation – who the opponents are, form etc.)

    Auba 1851 mins played(season). 9 Goals . 10 Bonus Points. Played 90mins in Europa.
Laca 1527 mins played(season) 10 Goals. 15 Bonus Points. Rested yesterday.
I know which one I want. Hopefully Arteta thinks same.

Neither of them are scoring goals consistently. Antonio, Bamford or Watkins look better picks for GW29.

Tough week to make moves, choose one, 2FT:
    1) Son + Taylor —> Bale + Dawson
    2) KDB + Taylor —> Bale + Dawson
    3) Other? (Suggestions)

    Areloa
    Dunk / Dias / Rudiger
    Salah / KDB / Son / Raphinha /
    Kane / Watkins / Bamford

    Martinez / Gundo / Shaw / Taylor

Well he's not playing this week, then you can get him back for free the following week if you so wish, so it's not that mind-blowing is it?

Seems like a real waste of next week's transfer. To each their own, I guess.

I would normally agree that it's daft to transfer a player out, only to transfer back in. But I think that it's different when that player is not going to pay so offers you zero.

But as you rightly say, each unto their own.

Was going to go Veltman over Dunk as I have no wildcard so I'd rather structure my team to have a cheaper bench as I have already strong defenders but cash seems to be easy atm so maybe just go Dunk considering I'm playing him this week for sure

That’s the risk but from what Bielsa has said sounds like he will be OK - if you want to play safe then Watkins ok option but think Bamford has higher points ceiling and would risk it knowing he plays SHU in 30
