Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0m) requires assessment ahead of Manchester City’s Double Gameweek 32 meeting with Aston Villa.

The premium midfielder was forced off as Pep Guardiola’s men crashed out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage on Saturday.

Unfortunately for his 17.7% ownership, Manchester City’s manager was not overly positive in his post-match comments.

“He has pain now. Tomorrow we are going to make a test with the doctors but it doesn’t look good.” – Pep Guardiola

After Wednesday’s trip to Villa Park, Manchester City are not in Premier League action again until Gameweek 34 because their involvement in the EFL Cup final means they have no fixture in Blank Gameweek 33.

Ilkay Gündogan (£5.8m), Phil Foden (£6.0m) and Riyad Mahrez (£8.1m) were the key restees in attack for the Citizens on Saturday, the former pair appearing in the second half to no avail.

With neither playing more than 42 minutes, Gündogan and Foden look likely starters at Villa Park on Wednesday.

John Stones (£5.2m) was an unused substitute as Ruben Dias (£6.2m) paired with Aymeric Laporte (£6.0m) at centre-back.

Meanwhile, Chelsea also picked up an injury in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final, although arguably of less importance than Manchester City’s.

Thiago Silva (£5.6m) came off with a knock in the 88th minute, replaced by Kurt Zouma (£5.3m). Andreas Christensen (£4.7m) missed the tie with a muscle injury while César Azpilicueta (£5.9m) and Antonio Rüdiger (£4.7m) played 90 minutes.

Ben Chilwell (£5.8m) also featured for the whole game with Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) an unused substitute.

Ahead of facing Brighton on Tuesday night, key attackers Mason Mount (£7.2m), Hakim Ziyech (£7.9m) and Timo Werner (£9.2m) were treated to late rests between the 70th and 79th minute on Saturday, although the former did look somewhat uncomfortable as he left the field.

Kai Havertz (£8.2m) and Christian Pulisic (£8.3m) were both used as second-half substitutes.

Meanwhile, there were future Blank and Double Gameweek implications from Chelsea booking a place in the FA Cup final.

That match is currently scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 15, which, as things currently stand according to the Premier League website, clashes with Gameweek 37, when Chelsea host Leicester (who are in FA Cup semi-final action against Southampton today).

However, Fantasy managers should keep an eye on latest fixture developments over the coming days considering recent stories in the media. Multiple sources are reporting the penultimate round of matches will be pushed back to the midweek of that week (May 18 and 19) to allow for fans to attend after future chances to the United Kingdom’s coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions.

This could, in turn, push Gameweeks 35 and 36 later into the month of May. Chelsea are currently set to face Manchester City (away) and Arsenal (home) respectively across those two rounds.

Chelsea XI (3-4-2-1): Kepa; Rüdiger, T Silva, Azpilicueta; Chilwell, Jorginho, Kanté, R James; Mount (Pulisic 70′), Ziyech (Emerson 79′); Werner (Havertz 79′).

Manchester City XI (4-2-3-1): Steffen; B Mendy, Laporte, Dias, Cancelo; Rodri, Fernandinho; Sterling, De Bruyne (Foden 48′), Torres (Gündogan 64′); Jesus.

It just means that City and Chelsea still have their Prem game to go within this game week.

Its not worded particularly well, but City don't suddenly have a double.

OK makes sense, that's really poor then and totally unnecessary. Since when has anything other than 2 fantasy gameweek games been classified as a double gameweek. Thanks for thr clarification.

The cup game today is very interesting from that point of view

Trouble with your set up - similar here of course - is that Bruno Shaw Maddison Rudiger Nacho would all blank in 36 after doubles in 35. Not insurmountable with two FTs but still tricky.

Add to that an Arsenal defender too who will blank. I might actually have to take a -8 if I want to field 11 in 36.

Maybe do A) and then sell Son after he's played Sheff Utd. Now Sheff have been officially relegated I can't see them putting up much of a fight anymore... and lets face it, they've been poor even with the prospect that they could still get out of trouble.

All this talk about there being a double in 35 - isn't this based on the idea that they will move the deadlines around?

Is there any precedent for this? Only my 2nd season playing and they obviously didn't move any last year?

Just feels more likely 36 is a big blank and 37 turns into a massive double?

    1. Flair
      • 6 Years
      5 years, 3 months ago

They moved them around once this season, when Villa vs Newcastle was delayed IIRC - so they're clearly able to do so.

      1. JabariParkersEyelid
        • 6 Years
        5 years, 3 months ago

Not sure how I've missed that haha.

And it would just be pushing the deadlines of 36 and 37 back to make room for the double so this does actually make perfect sense.

Thanks, bit concerned about my blank exposure to 36 now ha.

Don't see any great rush to sell as I think he'll continue to get the vast majority of minutes. But, if you can do an easy switch to TAA for example, then I'd do it yes.

He's a bit overpriced for a DFer who basically has a 6pt ceiling (albeit a ceiling he hits very often)

Time to move on I think

His ceiling is the same as Phillips pretty much and if you analyse the City clean sheet record since 26 it's poor enough. I've had Stones since 26 and he's actually managed more goals than cs in that period 🙂

Picture in the paper shows his ankle at awful angle- seems little doubt he will have ligament issue. Ex England physio analysed it and thinks a minima of 2-3 weeks but Kane heals quickly but not even he is likely to heal before Southampton game if he has damaged ligaments which looks highly probable.

Like the idea of Cavani and Laca

I'd get Meslier in goal for 36-38 fixtures.

Keeping an eye on Maddison for run from 33-35 but too much United and Leicester in attack could be awkward if Leicester win today. They would double in 35 likely but all blank in 36.

Not a priority transfer to me

Regret losing him over Watkins but that's spilt milk. He falls into the category of value when held long in my book as opposed to one to bring in for a fixture swing.

That said the transfer from Nacho to him in 36 does look very natural and I'm definitely not ruling it out. I just suspect that there'll be someone else who comes along in the next few who looks better.

Yes if chasing. He could do well with good fixtures; but he will he rotated at times that will hurt.

Yeah, that's the risk. Really like him though and potential for a Double

Tbh I don’t see the double happening.

Even if it did, I wouldn’t bank on him playing 180 minutes.

          But huge potential nonetheless.

    2x Q's:

    A) Drop Dias or Cancelo this week for a Pool defender?

    B) Which Pool defender is the best pick? Money not an issue

Definitely get rid of a City DF starting with Cancelo.
And TAA is your man if money no object

I was initially thinking this, but they do have SHU in 34 would couldn't score past me nan.

This is if Mou hasn't sold him down the corner shop after his last outing.

With KDB potentially out, does it make Gundagon a must have for the remainder of the season (post their blank)

He performed exceptionally well, and was in very attacking/forward positions in the earlier spell with KDB injured - seems to have more freedom of movement without him on the pitch. If I remember correctly, his purple patch coincided with the KDB injury.

Since KDBs return, he’s relegated to more CDM/CM positions. The heat map, I think, also reflects this.

    What do you guys think?

You would think he is definitely more likely to play. In the Leeds & Chelsea games he was always one if the players Pep subbed in when they were in trouble, so he's obviously important.

The CRY game would be a great one to target, if it were not for the fact it is sandwiched between the two PSG UCL semi-final ties, which he'll surely start both.

Also Chelsea is the game at the weekend after the 2nd tie of that semi-final. After today's performance, decent chance he start that too... which in turn makes him more of a risk for NEW.

Impossible to know for sure but you know Pep will prioritise UCL.

Fair point. Pep Roulette, now that they’ve won the league, is an even more problematic issue.

I did sell Gundo last week, but I’ll keep an eye out - for his price, and with low ownership again by now, he really is a game changer if there are signs he’ll start.
