How the top 10k FPL managers set their teams up for Triple Gameweek 35

The Bench Boost is the most popular chip among the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers for Triple Gameweek 35.

11.2% of those in the upper echelons deployed the chip for the most recent round of matches with Manchester United facing three matches and a further eight sides playing twice.

The glut of matches means the average squad size in the top 10k for Triple Gameweek 35 stands at 25.97 players; if captains are counted twice.

As you can see, 95.9% of managers at this level have used their Bench Boosts this season with 4.2% waiting on the final three rounds before calling on their substitutes.

The Free Hit chip was used by just 4.9% of the top 10k. While that figure may feel somewhat low, 92.6% had already used it prior to Triple Gameweek 35 so the availability was relatively scarce.

2.5% of top-10k Free Hits remain, which we are likely to see deployed in Blank Gameweek 36.

Only 2.0% went for the Wildcard while 2.3% deployed the Triple Captain.

Unsurprisingly, 90.3% of the top 10k have now exhausted their chip supply for 2020/21.

9.0% have one left to play while only 0.6% can call on two chips between now and Gameweek 38.

Bruno Fernandes (£11.5m) ran away with the top-10k captaincy this week, unsurprising given the opportunity to play in three fixtures.

81.4% at this level handed him the armband for Triple Gameweek 35, creating a gap of 72 percentage points him and second-placed Mohamed Salah (£12.7m).

9.4% have captained the Egyptian, who faces Southampton and Manchester United between now and Blank Gameweek 36.

Mason Greenwood (£7.2m), Marcus Rashford (£9.6m) and Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.3m) are the top 10k’s extreme differential captains with the backing of 2.3%, 1.9% and 1.9% respectively.

This week’s captaincy statistics have helped Fernandes become the only player with over 100% effective ownership.

His figure for Triple Gameweek 35 stands at 172.1%, just shy of double that of the second-highest Iheancho (96.9%).

Salah, Harry Kane (£11.9m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m) complete the top five.

An above-normal interest in the Free Hit chip this week makes an examination of such squads in the top 10k worthwhile.

Crystal Palace’s pair of trips to Sheffield United and Southampton have helped Vicente Guaita (£4.8m) and Tyrick Mitchell (£3.8m) establish themselves in the Free Hit template at this level.

Wilfried Zaha (£7.2m) is also a popular figure in these squads, selected by 78.5%.

Harry Maguire (£5.5m), Fernandes and Greenwood are the top-three most popular Manchester United assets, each one sitting in at least 53.6% of top-10k Free-Hit squads.

So far, the Free-Hit forward line has made a mixed start to Triple Gameweek 35, Iheanacho netting and Jamie Vardy (£10.3m) assisting in Leicester’s defeat to Newcastle.

The Free Hit template has not impacted the overall picture of the top 10k too much.

Of the 15 most popular players at this level, 11 have more than one fixture in Triple Gameweek 35.

Kane and Son Heung-min (£9.6m) have clung onto 73.0% and 48.3% respective ownership at this level.

I'll probably go with them on my FH. The alternative is a City mid and I'd rather have a nailed player as I'm already going with Aguero with only Mitchell on the bench. If not on a FH I'd be tempted but probably just go with Kane and Son if leading, Bale if chasing.

How mad is it that Iheanacho has been by far the most in-form player in the league for 10 weeks now and it coincides with Leicester looking like they will slip out of the top 4 from a huge lead, again.

10 goals in 10 games (not to mention a few assists). I'm keeping until the season end, regardless of the fixtures.

But yeah, it will be shocking if they blow it two seasons in a row.

Think the major problem for them has been that no-one else has produced close to anything apart from him during this time, and it's just not sustainable that way for a team aiming Top 4. Vardy has been a big let down.

Exactly. If you look at Chelsea no single attacker has had a serious purple patch, but there's been 15 different goal scorers since Tuchel came in. Crazy.

They've been slipping up for ages not this one game. Evans has been their most reliable CB of course but the players they had on the pitch are more than competent. There's no excuse to concede 4 to any average team, let alone Newcastle who have struggled for goals for years.

If I was in OGS's shoes I'd field a reserve team on Tuesday against Leicester- which is why I've taken a gamble on Iheanacho(c) this week. Pity Evans picked up an injury.

Benching Dallas can backfire. I know Sheffield United look tasty but would consider Fabianski and Dallas starting instead of Pickford and Cresswell. Tripling up on Everton, generally unpredictable this season, and no Leeds coverage is risky, so another general suggestion is trying to see whether Leeds seem to improve; if so, Bamford/Raph could be an option (and then considering Robbo instead of Cresswell, downgrading Willock. Otherwise, looks really good to me. Perhaps get rid of Willock anyway, a bit ridic for City.

Thoughts on which teams are most likely to clean sheet next week? Normally I like to take a risk on FH and triple up on a team with cheap defenders and decent fixtures but Everton and villa probably have the best games but not convinced with their defence. Certainly not enough to triple up.

      1. Holmes
        • 10 Years

I guess Everton, Liverpool and Villa might get a CS. Southampton might also be able to do so. Wouldnt triple or double on any defense though...

          Iheanacho to Antonio is fine

Not sure about other moves being worth a hit.

Is Fofana to Coufal for a hit any better, and leave in Saka? Fielding 8 with no hits just doesn’t feel like enough

It can work but they have been shaky, maybe 1 CS vs Palace.

3 CSs in last 10 games. Not conceding many goals but they are conceding that one goal.

Why Robbo? Expensive with no attacking threat this season in a team that can't keep a CS.

I think on a FH he's fine this week, likely to start as I can't see Pep starting him against Chelsea, but we'll see.

Although I'll admit I am also thinking of swapping Vardy out for him in 37, as i want him for the final game anyway. Head says Antonio, but I've been playing too long not to risk frittering some points on a farewell to Kun.

Its last chance to own him in FPL, whether he does well or not is pretty much irrelevant here.

I had David Silva for same reasons. My love for Kun isnt that high, so not going for him 😀

Based on passion & common sense.

I mean, if you spend over a decade at a club you love, it is expected to perform in your last few games at this club especially when the player is Agüero

How do you see City assets? Only CL final left so who is going to play PL?

Quite tasty fixtures so could get one def and/or one mid. For example Cancelo/Stones/Dias over Digne.

                    A) Jota
                    B) Gündogan
                    C) Mahrez
                    D) Raphinha

Newcastle were dealt a very duff hand when they both got injured and with covid. Unlike city losing 2 or 3 top players really blunts the attack. Willock is also impressing me and as a Swansea fan can’t speak highly enough about woodman either!
