The Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfield pool at Manchester City has been swollen further by the signing of Jack Grealish (£8.0m) from Aston Villa.

The England international has joined the reigning champions on a six-year deal, with a transfer fee of £100m being reported.

The player said upon his move:

I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City. City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club.

Over the past 10 seasons, they have won major trophies consistently. Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe. To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want.

The facilities are amazing, and I honestly can’t wait to get started, meet everyone and get playing.

City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, added:

We are absolutely delighted to be able to welcome Jack Grealish to Manchester City. He is an incredible talent.

Jack’s development over the past few seasons both for club and country has been plain for everybody to see. His natural talent together with his commitment to improve as a player, has seen him become one of the most exciting attacking players in world football today.

I am certain that the fans are going to love seeing him in our team. Pep loves the way he plays, and we all feel he is an ideal fit for Manchester City. Our style and his style are a perfect match. I’m excited to watch him over the coming years.

Grealish predominantly played on the left side of attack in a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 at Villa, although was occasionally deployed deeper in the central midfield trio.

Capable of also operating as a number 10, his move to City does beg the question over who will make way to accommodate him.

Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) and Phil Foden (£8.0m) were both used heavily down the left flank in 2020/21, while Ilkay Gundogan (£7.5m) had the stronghold over the left-side central midfield spot.

Above: Average position maps for 2021/22 taken from our Premium Members Area

Only two midfielders created more chances (CC, below) than Grealish in the Premier League last season, while new teammate Kevin De Bruyne (£12.0m) was the only one who could beat his minutes-per-CC average of 27.

We’ll have more in-depth analysis on Grealish’s move in a Moving Target piece tomorrow.

Dias and Coufal - Hesitant to get WHM players in w/ Europa coming up.
Thursday night games are FPL poison.

Digne and Shaw - So, I'd take these two attacking options.

What do people think? I dont have a quick Kane plan and it feels weird not having an attacking united player considering their fixtures but otherwise I think its strong:

    Sanchez
    Shaw, TAA, Digne
    Grealish, Buendia, Mount, Salah
    DCL, Toney, Ings

    Foster, Raphina, White, Veltman

Not worried about Grealish minutes? Not a fan of having 8 great attackers as you can only ever play 7 of them in a gw

I honestly don’t know how Guardiola manages to be so successful. I mean, it’s not like he’s always had unlimited funds and access to the best players. Just remember it is Pep's genius that wins trophies, not financial doping. I don't know how he does it.

Well he did admit himself that he works with so many good players and that’s why he is very successful. He has hardly come across as arrogant.

But as I said to another poster earlier, he can’t be regarded as highly as Wenger/Ferguson/Mourinho/Clough until he manages a team that’s not in its pomp, with lesser funds and does well.

He’s now had 8 consecutive seasons, entering his ninth, with the unlimited financial resources of both Bayern & Man City & has precisely zero champions leagues to show for it

A well shaken can of coke could have won champions leagues with prime Messi, Xavi & Iniesta

Maybe signing another few hundred millions worth of players will help finally show his true genius

Their talent was obviously hard to counter, but Ferguson himself confirmed that it was Pep's "great system" of passing and pressing that made them even better. https://youtu.be/07SEEakiewI

              We’ve found Pep’s agent 😆

Take everything managers say with a pinch of salt

The can of coke would have still managed to win champions leagues with prime Messi, Xavi & Iniesta - Maybe not against Ferguson, but certainly over the years Pep had them

Without them, his failure in Europe speaks volumes, despite the resources he’s had for 8 seasons now with City & Bayern

But hopefully another few hundred million will help finally allow his true genius shine through 😉

doesn't matter! I thought he would be at least 5.5m so I got him now and "downgraded" Bruno to Ziyech!

One of Gundo, KDB, Sterling, Jesus, Mahrez or Torres…or maybe he’ll mix it up by trying Foden… or Grealish 😆

      Actually it’ll probably be Ederson

It would just be such a headache to have a Man City player, the pool of attacking players to choose from is just too much for the mind! Lol
And on top of that the rotation aaarrgh! It’s just too much. I think I’m going to save myself the headache. I am considering a defender though...

Personally, I think you’d want your head examined to be going anywhere near them for FPL unless & until we get injuries to help, but i’ve obviously got a (very) different risk appetite to the many of those punting on them

It’s not even as if city started well last year - they were dogshite until just before Christmas 😆

Draft #42948 for comments . . .and yes Grealish is the big question mark.

    Pickford / Foster
    TAA / Cancelo / Digne / (White/Lowton)
    Salah / Grealish / Buendia / Barnes / Raph
    Ings / Antonio / Toney

You’re very exposed to Bruno & Shaw’s 100% set piece coverage & combined XGi

Utd scored 73 goals with 137 goal involvements last year - they should push on to close to (if not more than) 150 goal involvements this year

Bruno & Shaw are well positioned to hoover up so many of those 140-150 it has the potential to be an absolute feast, with effectively zero rotation concerns

      1. Bushwhacker
        • 7 Years

Canelo > Shaw is very likely, I just worry about him starting GW1 tbh. Bruno was poor at the end of last season, poor at the Euros and I think pens are going to be harder to come by. He's been in many a draft thus far but for now he's out.

          Alt becomes :

          Bachman / Foster
TAA / Shaw / Digne (Lowton / Amartey)
          Salah / Bruno / Barnes / Raph / Buendia
          Ings / Antonio / Davis

Personally like that a lot more, but I’m very bearish on city assets, and very bullish on Shaw/Bruno (for what I like to think are good reasons/logic) so there is that bias there to be aware of

Cancelo & Grealish could do well, so if you have a strong gut, it’s probably better to back it

Bruno & Shaw look primed for destruction his year though, I think it’s brave to go without

        2. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 16 Years

Bruno finished the season with 2 goals in his last 3 starts, has always been poor for Portugal (but still would have had 3 goals in 4 games without CR7), has 48 returns in his last 49 starts/2 subs

Guarantees him nothing for the first few gameweeks - but if you’re avoiding, just do it with eyes wide open

He’s got a clear path to 30 goal involvements again this year, and can go to 40+ if he lands on the right side a few times

Bruno's good but not a world beater...he was dire at the Euros. Will be interesting to see how Sancho impacts his game

Couple of assists, couple of goals of the last 10 . . . although didn't play one and was a sub in another. I think he ran out of steam and with the Euros I'm just not sure if we'll get 100% Bruno this year.

    Can’t decide between

    Jota in a 3-5-2
    Antonio in 3-4-3

Team is pretty template so Jota would be more of a differential I suppose

Jota nailed over who? I think Greenwood is more nailed given that Rashford is having surgery and he can also start up top or on the right if Cavani is too old/Sancho needs time to get up to speed

    Sanchez
Digne - coufal- veltman ( white, shaw)
    Salah - jota - ziyech - benrahma - mahrez
    Ings - DCL ( toney)
1.5itb. So ziyech out GW 2 With 9.0 in hand for transfer

    Thoughts?
