FPL winner Simon March’s team reveal: £5.0m ‘keeper, Barnes in and Watkins out?

The 2014/15 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) champion, Simon March, discusses his Gameweek 1 draft in our latest team reveal video on YouTube.

Simon chats to Joe about his 3-4-3 set-up for the opening weekend, including his slightly leftfield pick of a £5.0m goalkeeper when so many of us are plumping for a £4.5m option between the sticks.

Burnley’s defence is represented, while the former FPL winner has eschewed attacking full-back options in the form of Lucas Digne (£5.5m) and Luke Shaw (£5.5m) and opted for the steady drip-feed of points from Ruben Dias (£6.0m).

Leicester City’s fit-again Harvey Barnes (£7.0m) – who scored on Wednesday – also makes an appearance alongside some more ‘template’ midfielders.

Up top, Simon discusses his thoughts on Danny Ings‘ (£8.0m) move to Aston Villa and what it might mean for his initial Ollie Watkins (£7.5m) pick.

Ivan Toney (£6.5m) also makes an appearance in the three-man frontline.

      I'm really confused by the number of people starting with Ben White in their team. Needs time to bed in and horrible early fixtures.

      I would also go Shaw -> AWB for the first few weeks. Safer option I feel.

      I've got identical starting XI and 2/4 on the bench...........Veltman ahead of White and Livramento ahead of Manquillo are the only difference but those are debatable

      Tbh, at some times you've got to have a straightforward approach, It's Salah, it's a promoted side. Nothing else required, Leeds last season was a perfect example. The only thing is that it's away

          Nothing to suggest Barnes will start for sure. In fact if he does you will for sure see a lot of 60-70 min subs given that he's coming back from a serious injury.

      Have Mane as a placeholder for Bruno/KDB. Norwich could be a huge ass game for Pool assets.

      And then that GW would give an analysis on City and Utd strategy, subsequently City have Norwich at home in GW2 and Utd have Wolves in GW3.

      Seems like a feasible option, plus his ownership is a huge plus point for the pool game.

          with Firmino not yet in training, I don't see Jota not playing. For me, it's him or Mane as Trent and Mo are locked in. And I already have Greenwood and that price point, who is deffo starting the first few.

              Rash out, Sols said to press he thinks that Sancho would be on the bench against Leeds, added with Cavani not being back in Training. Greenwood is going to play for sure, but if he doesn't perform well in GW1 his minutes may be reduced.

        Entirely depends on Lukaku news, if you're planning to get Kai for short term then it's great but if Lukaku comes in, kai as an FPL asset is less effective

        Not sure. Have seen this before and it is very hard to replace goals and assists, IMO.

        Everton struggled after Lukaku left to replace his goals.
        Spurs struggled after Bale left to replace his goals and assists.
        Liverpool struggled after Suarez left to replace his goals and assists.

        Aston Villa have also signed these players fairly late relative to the start of the season so will be difficult to adapt quickly to a different way of getting goals.
