The 2014/15 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) champion, Simon March, discusses his Gameweek 1 draft in our latest team reveal video on YouTube.

Simon chats to Joe about his 3-4-3 set-up for the opening weekend, including his slightly leftfield pick of a £5.0m goalkeeper when so many of us are plumping for a £4.5m option between the sticks.

Burnley’s defence is represented, while the former FPL winner has eschewed attacking full-back options in the form of Lucas Digne (£5.5m) and Luke Shaw (£5.5m) and opted for the steady drip-feed of points from Ruben Dias (£6.0m).

Leicester City’s fit-again Harvey Barnes (£7.0m) – who scored on Wednesday – also makes an appearance alongside some more ‘template’ midfielders.

Up top, Simon discusses his thoughts on Danny Ings‘ (£8.0m) move to Aston Villa and what it might mean for his initial Ollie Watkins (£7.5m) pick.

Ivan Toney (£6.5m) also makes an appearance in the three-man frontline.

You can watch Simon and Joe in the embedded video below, while you can see all previous YouTube team reveals via this link.

And if you missed it, you can read Simon’s first Pro Pundits column of the season below:

You’ll be able to read Simon’s articles throughout the season with a Fantasy Football Scout subscription, which also gives you access to our new Premium Members Area.

My team makes me a little moist down below. Question is...does it have the same effect on you?

    Steele (Sanchez)

TAA - Shaw - Cresswell - Tierney (Hoever)

Salah - Havertz - Buendia - Raphinha (Gundogan)

    Wilson - Antonio (Toney)

Nice, but I'd play Gundo over Raphinha/Cresswell/Wilson/Shaw, it's only Spurs, and Gundo won't be more nailed all season. It could pay to have a reasonable bench like this, I think.

John Stones anyone? Or is he too much of a rotation risk to bother with.

I've taken a risk on him. If Laporte leaves, which is looking a strong possibility, then should be a pretty safe bet (i hope!)

This. I don't see him as a rotation risk. I've deviated from the template back 3 of TAA, Shaw and Digne by going with Stoney over the Toffee.

I'm tempted to do similar, but would likely ditch Shaw before Digne.

Very tempted, I think he'll do great this season and sounds like Laporte might want to leave which should mean he's not rotated too much. If you can cover him I think he's worth going for

If it turns out Shaw and Stones don't play due to post-Euro holidays, I've got White and Veltman to step up. I'm fine with that.

Would you replace Shaw with Stones?

I have been wanting to get stones in as well.

With Shaw's form and being on some setpieces probably not, as you'll be more sure of him getting starts (once we know what the situation with his ribs is). I'm trying to fit Stones in alongside Maguire and TAA as well as two 4.5s but I think I might hold off for now as Ake might start the season off next to Dias with Stones returning late from the Euros

He was pretty much nailed for most of the season, outside of CL.

5.8 points per match, 5th highest in fpl. 5.5m. Strange he's not mentioned more

I'd love it! But I can't seem to find a way to do so:

        Meslier (4.0)
        TAA / Shaw / Coufal (White, 4.0)
        Salah / Bruno / Raphinha / Barnes / Buendía
        Bamford / Watkins (4.5)

Coufal is a great FPL asset. Bargain at 5.0 IMO.

2 up front for first 4-5 games might be the way to go? Too many uncertainties in attack with very good mid priced defenders and proven big-hitters in MF. 3 x £12m's in allows for easy 2FT early on without a WC once Kane/Son scenarios are played out...

    Sanchez (Foster)
Digne / Godfrey / Coufal (White / Goode)
    KDB / Raphina / Salah/ Smith-Rowe / Bruno
    Toney / Ings (Obefemi)

I'm an evertonian (obviously) so a different 5m def might be sensible but Godfrey decent pick if we can capitise on Benitez's typical defence-first approach with good early home games and Goodison back to capacity...

having the 3 big hitters in midfield is imbalanced but as you say can be adjusted with transfers but not a fan of booking in changes before a ball is kicked. Not sure on ESR minutes with Willock situation not clear unless I’ve missed something

      1. Limbo
        • 15 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

It's not thaaaat unbalanced. Dinge/Coufal + 5 could do very well as middle weights. Toney/Ings same. But I do agree with ESR... weak link.

        • 15 Years

Doh. This is .5 itb. Easy upgrade of ESR to Harrison or Godfrey to Castage to beef things up.

Oh that's a tough one! I'm not fond of Toney and Coufal, but Son could be a beast. Starting with City is tough though, so I am firmly on A. Who else are you missing by picking these 3 players: Do you have Bruno & Salah?

      1. Jullepuu

Team would have these guys in both scenarios:

        Sanchez Foster
        TAA Digne Shaw Veltman X
        Bruno Salah Raphinha X X
        Wilson X Obafemi

    Looking okay?

    Sánchez
    TAA • Cancelo • Chilwell
    Salah • Havertz • Jota • Barnes • Raphina
    Watkins • Antonio

    Foster • White • Ayling • Obafemi
    £1.5 itb

Tentative plans subject to price changes, etc:
    GW2: Havertz > Mahrez
    GW3: Mahrez > Son

Alternatively, I may just start with Mahrez over Havertz to begin with

    Thoughts on this?

    Sanchez - Steele

    Salah - Bruno - Gundo - Mbuemo - Tella
    DCL - Ings - Obafemi

    Cheers!

I don't think so. Wait for the Community Shield lineup but I reckon the back 4 who have started all of preseason so far will play GW1. That's Cancelo, Dias, Ake and Mendy. Maybe Zinchenko comes in for Mendy.

Thanks, good points and thanks for for info. I think I'm getting a little bit nervy having double Brighton defence with Veltman and Sanchez but maybe I need to relax a bit on it, still have some decent fixtures and I have Sanchez for rotating so Pickford will do to begin with.

I decided I definitely want Shaw in my team. Any news or insights on him starting GW1? If he does not look fit I think I'll start with Digne, but that will certainly mean booking a Digne > Shaw transfer whenever he'll be starting which could be as soon as GW2 I guess...

Not seeing Chilwell in many teams, I think he's a great asset even with tough fixtures, Chelsea's defence was solid during the second half of the season, could start just as well.

To be fair even with misfiring forwards last season he was excellent, having someone like Lukaku there to finish off his crosses or runs into the box would make him such a good option but for now I'm holding off until I end up WCing when transfers are done

Think it's his price. Coufal. Castange. Digne... All offer great cheaper options with good fixtures too

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

I agree. It's fixtures and great value in defence. Although in general, compared to Chilwell:

Castagne could be LCB in a 3? If nailed and playing LB/WB then he's golden, but I don't think that's the case.

Coufal had a great season, and seems underpriced, but still seems far off Chilwell's potential, goals being worth double assists.

Similar story for Digne. But he does have great fixtures to back himself up.

I can see why people are avoiding Chilwell. Fixtures are king at the start of the season. I'm planning a deep bench though, so I'm hoping I can benefit from him in the easy and middling fixtures, and bench for at least 2 hards (Liverpool and City).

I'd rather spend the cash on TAA/Robbo (blech), and two mid priced. Same reason I can't really afford Dias. Solid points but there's value to consider and effect of having some serious captain material in the team.

I think it's the pricing of Shaw/Digne/Stones/Cresswell as to why he isn't higher owned.
Also not the best fixtures, although yes it is Chelsea.

Has the Robbo and TAA double up been given up on now?

The way I see it is TAA and Salah are locked in, so can either spend 7.5 on Jota or 7 on Robbo. Atm I prefer Jota!

        Why Jota over Robbo?

OOP striker, should be nailed for the first few games as bobby isn't back yet, if we plays well he should cement himself on the team sheet

I had that dilemma. Decided Jota isn't nailed. Then downgraded Robbo to Stones anyway!

Anyone guess Leicester's back four? Give much of a chance to Thomas with Fofana/Justin/Evans all out?

        Yeah. Right. That.

Only Peireia / Soyuncu / Castange nailed out of fit players...?

Then Likely to be Thomas + Bertrand?

Looking for a 1st membership in my fpl career. I know you've heard this question 100 times but worth the money? What tools do you use the most?

    Thank you!

Player comparisons and sorting the season ticker by difficulty for a particular period (Leeds are top week 2 to 9).
I also look at the six game projected player points but generally disagree with them.

I might get slated for this but anyone think Demarai Gray might be an option? 5.5, great fixtures to start, a Benitez signing, decent preseason so far and possibility to start?

    A. Shaw and Raphinha
    B. Veltman and Jota
The obvious pick would be A for the long run but am leaning to B for short term. Raphinha bad fixtures and shaw not much of a pre-season. What you think?

    Sanchez Foster
    *** Digne TAA Coufal Amartey
    *** Salah Fernandes Buendia Allan
    DCL Watkins Toney

Yes, then downgrade Buendia to ESR to upgrade Amartey to Ayling and Watkins to Ings 🙂

Sanchez > Bachmann is free btw 😛
