Fantasy Football Scout’s very own Mark Sutherns has been discussing his latest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team draft with video regular Andy North over on our YouTube channel.

This is an exclusive for Premium Members – and there’ll be plenty more to come in 2021/22.

Mark will be filming one video just for subscribers every week throughout the upcoming campaign, so sign up via this link in order to see them.

FPL pre-season: Trossard hits hat-trick from wing-back role 1

In this first instalment, the FPL BlackBox co-host and Andy chat about Jack Grealish (£8.0m), Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Danny Ings (£8.0m) before launching into a discussion on their latest drafts.

Mark explains his 3-5-2 set-up, premium midfielder choices and omission of Bruno Fernandes (£12.5m).

Andy throws his own selections under the spotlight, explaining his preference for a 3-4-3 and inclusion of Harvey Barnes (£7.0m).

Greenwood and ings to Benrahma and Toney, and then Veltman to Trent.

Squad coming together but yet again the front 3 are proving a challenge.

With so few options relative to the rest of the squad perhaps just 2 up top out of the 15 would be a better fit, with an option to add a midfielder or defender.

Any better options at £6m max than Joelinton Cássio Apolinário de Lira?

        I agree.

Especially for a guy who scores less than 1 in 10.

Just go for a midfielder then, plenty of options in that bracket.

I was pretty sold on 3 upfront but with options dwindling I've currently switched and upgraded my 4.5Mid, just better options there. Not to difficult to revert back a bit later on when Bamford becomes a better option for example. Its 5 mids for me at the moment but I do like 3 up top, still plenty of messing around before deadline.

Check the article comparing their underlyings last season - TAA wallops Robbo across the board, he was unlucky last season, if that bad luck goes away, there'll be a noticeable difference in their output

If memory serves me right, I think Robbo spent a lot more time protecting the weak CBs than trent so the stats might be skewed. That said I would assume Trent performs better this year

Chilwell late back and will be giving you nightmares, Liverpool CB situation v dicey right now and wouldn't like to back them for cleans, Tierney forever crocked and some tough fixtures

Any reason for the lack of Villa defence in teams? Martinez, Konsa, etc.? 15 clean sheets last season

    1. Eze Really?
      • 12 Years
      5 years, 1 month ago

Martinez not "Twitter beautiful" but 39% owned. With choice of forwards it makes Villa backs less tempting.

      5 years, 1 month ago

They regressed a fair bit in the second half of the season. Clean sheets dried up when Grealish was out. But I’m starting with Martinez cause with those first three games I can see potential for 30 points there for him

I was on Martinez but cash too tight now.

Logically not having Grealish holding the ball and winning free kicks means Villa likely to be up against it more.

Shame about Chelsea. Have a strong squad, but Euros and late transfer dealings has disrupted them. Having to arrange a friendly after the PL has started shows how far behind they are in their preparation. Will play a weak team vs Palace and they go into a difficult fixture run undercooked.

Much like City who actually believes in a proper rest after international competitions. England players will play in the friendly instead of being rushed in for the season opener

Then again, think them and City are the only ones with the squad depth to do it

I know Antonio, Bamford and DCL are in most templates.

I just feel it will be a season of switching between them trying to catch the form and avoid injuries for Antonio.

Is Cavani unlikely to feature in the Man Utd v Leeds opener?

I read he'd been given 5 weeks holiday in South America to recharge his batteries so won't be match fit.

He's a great pick but subject to rest and rotation anyhow.

    TAA Shaw Cresswell White 4m
    Bruno Salah Buendia XXX Bissouma
    Antonio Watkins XXX.

    A. Raphina and Ings
    B. Grealish and Toney
    C. Some better combo!

With DCL injured, I just realise Moise Kean does not excist in FPL...has be a good way to have an Everton player, dosn`t he?

I would say £5.5m. Hasn’t shown enough to warrant any more?

    Batman (Fosters)
    TAA Shaw ____ ____ (Amartey)
    Salah Bruno Barnes Raph ____
    Ings Antonio (Obafemi)

    Stuck between 2 structures
    A) 2 * 5.5 defenders + 5.5 mid (ESR/Cantwell/Mbuemo)
    B) 2 * 4.5 defenders + 7.5 mid (Gundo/Jota/Greenwood/Mount)

I think A is the optimal setup from a strictly value / expected points basis (which is why you see a number of teams looking at 4 at the back type structures), whilst B is more flexible because it gives access to that pool of explosives and the potential early bandwagons.

    Thoughts please…..

    Bachman
    TAA, Digne, Shaw
    Salah, Jota, Sancho, Buendia, Grealish
    Ings, DCL

    (Foster, White, Obafemi, Omobamidelle)

Ok think I’m settling on this:

    4.5
    Trent | Robbo | Shaw
    Salah | Bruno | Son | Sarr | Harrison
    Toney | Pukki

    4.0 | Amartey | Omobamidele | Obafemi

    Keepers to be decided.

Thoughts? Would love to squeeze 0.5 to get Raph/Buendia for one of the 6.0 mids

    Thanks

That bench is asking for trouble unless you’re playing an early WC

Almost certainly will, possibly involving Kane

The spots I’m tinkering with and not 109% sure on are:

      Robbo
      Sarr
      Harrison
      Toney

Atm I see Robbo as a 7.0 mid with great clean sheet potential with VVD. Plus given Trent/Salah ownership Pool games will pretty boring to watch without him.

If I pick Robbo, the other 3 positions kinda pick themself in terms of money restrictions.

Ship Robertson or Sarr and Harrison out for Dallas/Cantwell/other 5.5 mid and Buendia. Wouldn't be putting much faith in those forwards, maybe downgrade a hitter mid?

      1. KAPTAIN KANE SERVES THE PAI…
        • 9 Years

That’s what I was playing with, but I think avoiding the 5.5 mid spot is more flexible, seeing as more options at 6.0-6.5 range.

Robertson is Robertson, minimum 150 points for the season.

You're brave with that strike force. Personally would swap Robbo/Trent to Dias or cheaper and upgrade a mid to Raph/buendia and upgrade a striker also

Hmm, so instead of Robbo, Sarr, Harrison, Toney I could get 4.5 def, Raph, Buendia, Ings/Bamford.

Can one imagine if there was a compulsory wildcard in GW2 or 3. I think it would steer people from the 'template" which keeps people in the conservative and allows free thinking early on.

Then everyone jumps on the template when the compulsory WC drops.
