Brentford face Arsenal in tonight’s season opener, with all Fantasy Premier League (FPL) eyes on Ivan Toney (£6.5m).

The Bees forward, who arrives in the top-flight having netted 33 Championship goals last term, is the second-highest owned forward heading into Gameweek 1 with 31.4% of FPL managers backing him.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has opted for a 3-5-2 formation. That means an out-of-position (OOP) start for differential Bryan Mbeumo (£5.5m), with new signings Kristoffer Ajer (£4.5m) and Frank Onyeka (£5.0m) also involved from the off.

Meanwhile, Arsenal line-up in a 4-2-3-1, with forwards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.0m) and Alexandre Lacazette missing out as expected.

The most popular Gunners asset for tonight’s game is Ben White (£4.5m), who sits in 26.2% of teams. He features as a right-sided centre-half, in a line-up which also includes youngsters Albert Sambi Lokonga (£5.0m), Emile Smith Rowe (£5.5m), Gabriel Martinelli (£5.5m) and Folarin Balogun (£5.0m).

15.4% owned Bukayo Saka (£6.5m) starts on the bench.

Kick-off at the Brentford Community Stadium is at 20.00 BST.

LINE-UPS

Brentford XI: Raya, Ajer, Jansson, Pinnock, Canos, Janelt, Norgaard, Onyeka, Henry, Mbeumo, Toney

Subs: Gunnarsson, Goode, Forss, Wissa, Ghoddos, Dervisoglu, Bidstrup, Sorensen, Roerslev

Arsenal XI: Leno, Chambers, White, Mari, Tierney, Sambi Lokonga, Xhaka, Smith Rowe, Pepe, Martinelli, Balogun

    Watchlist updated

    Bre -
    Raya - many saves
Pinnock - key defender, suggested by PL scout before
Canos - amazing right foot, take corners, have shot from open play even play from RWB
Mbeumo - OOP mid, 3 shots in the box, very lively and cheap ! 5.5mid play as striker, higher than Toney

    Arsenal -
Tierney - att wing back. Many shots and crosses
Pepe - some good shooting but have bad first touch, believe he can dribble quite well too.
ESR - good link up play, but must improve his finishing.

    Who else?

Mbuemo as a 4th mid (with a 4.5 bench player) might be a decent way to get to a third premium.

No one to finish when I heard Arsenal were maybe missing Laca and Aubameyang I considered only getting ESR and ditching Tierney. Because I figured Arsenal would not be able to have Brentford under the cosh with no top striker - so could concede.
But I did not confirm the changes - reason I kept Tierney was because I could bench him gw2 and 3 and it fits my team structure.

Put simply Arsenal with either Lacazette or Aubameyang in the team win the match and Tierney with 2 assists gets MoM

I agree Tierney must have been going mad.
Plenty of times he put lovely crosses in and no1 showed.
I have a feeling Arteta will go damage limitation against Chelsea. The would do well to lose 2-0

Good call that. Viera seems like a man with a plan.
If Arsenal have 0 points a -8 goal difference by gw4 Areteta could get the sack - by gw5 or 6. Then a caretaker manager until Christmas.

I think we'll win tomorrow , not because Dublin are allegedly on a bit of a slide, but because some of the new lads are more fearless than the old guard. Was at the Galway game, we need both halves like that second half and a bit more to beat ye. I only think that though, could well lose by 7 or 8 points as our defence is dodge. Should be a cracker. May the best team win.

Basically doing a full lap of appreciation post-match, going on in the interview like they're the smallest club in the football pyramid... Don't really follow the Championship but have a few friends who do who said he was a "character"

Having watched Brentford if they play like that most weeks I'm confident the goals will come for Toney.

I'm a spurs fan and to be fair it was hardly ideal for arsenal, 2 best players get 'unwell' just before the game with other injuries as well

3 maybe 4 starters. Aubameyang, Saka, Partey, Lacazette.

I don't think those two would have helped their defense that much.

Carragher describing how when Spurs play like this, it's "Spurs".

Neville tells him "don't do that with Arsenal" and both crack up.

    Well that was fun!
Toney often has games like that. Wins more headers defending in his own box than the opposition. He outscores his xg and doesn’t have loads of chances. Mbeumo is very left footed. If he takes a shot on his right don’t expect it to be on target.
Also worth noting that 2-0 up in the 88th minute they sent the centre halves up for a long throw and tried to score a third. No holding it in the corner.

You're top of the league!! Yeah it was a great sign that they've got the confidence to push for a third rather than pass it around till the whistle. Just hoping Toney gets a return next time, but think that's a case of sooner rather than later from tonight's showing

He's gonna have a lot of games like that in the prem. Brentford dominated this game and somehow still only had 34% possession

Wasn't unexpected from an Arsenal viewpoint but Brentford were very good and a well deserved 3 points. Hope they can keep it going.

Winning those headers is very important in real life. He played well. Congrats for Brentford fans. (Markus will score later, no worries).

    Lessons learnt

    - Toney looks good, might have to bring him in at some point in the next few weeks
    - Home advantage is back, bigger than ever

    Listen, this wasn't a shock.

Mari, Chambers, Lokonga, Martinelli, ESR, Balogun. Arsenals 11 was full of players who are not good enough, or young players who barely have any minutes at this level. It's a joke that they are in this position come the first game of the season. Show me one other club who has four or five 20-21 year olds in their 11?

Not exactly your age range, but they will have been last season:

      Reece James - 21
      Mason Mount - 22
      Kai Havertz - 22
      Christian Pulisic - 22

The above four won the Champions League. At least three are first-teamers. The below four with their own caveats.

Billy Gilmour - 20 (loaned, looke dgreat every time he's played)
      Callum Hudson-Odoi - 20 (yes he's still only 20)
Trevoh Chalobah - 22 (great performance in Super Cup)
Tammy Abraham - 23 (but two seasons back, scored loads)

    My take would be:

    - White was fine. Mari shaky as hell, and not helped by Chambers, either.
    - Brentford seem to be a hybrid of Sheff Utd and Norwich. They really struggle to keep the ball, which could be problematic in the Prem. Arsenal too toothless to make the most from it.
    - Tierney and ESR Arsenal’s only bright sparks.

For fks sake, Arteta whinging about Brentford being streetwise. Learn from it and move on without excuses.

Xmas? If we lose the next two and then don’t beat Norwich, he’ll be gone. You saw the treatment Arsenal fans gave to the greatest thing that ever happened to Arsenal (Wenger), Arteta will be far worse.

If I’m honest I’m ecstatic. As an Arsenal fan who loved Wenger the club just doesn’t feel the same anymore.

It completely vindicates everything he ever said.

Not really. Wenger is a club legend and the way ‘fans’ and the media and eventually the club treated him showed the true rot.

    6. Bushwhacker
      • 7 Years

Wenger was the root cause for the rot. Outstayed his welcome by two years and the team was on the slide massively.
