Sunday’s Premier League action kicks off at St. James’ Park as Newcastle United host West Ham United.

Joe Willock (£6.0m), who enjoyed a fine spell with the Magpies last season, completed his move from Arsenal on Friday afternoon but was not registered before the 12-noon deadline and will therefore have to wait until Gameweek 2 for his first appearance as a permanent signing.

With Martin Dubravka (£4.5m) injured and Karl Darlow (£4.5m) still feeling the effects of COVID, youngster Freddie Woodman (£4.5m) will make his Premier League debut and starts in goal.

At the back, bargain-bin enabler Javier Manquillo (£4.0m), owned by 10.1% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, misses out altogether as Steve Bruce opts for a 3-5-2 formation with Jacob Murphy (£5.0m) and Matt Ritchie (£5.0m) taking the wing-back roles.

Influential forwards Callum Wilson (£7.5m), owned by 7.2%, and Allan Saint-Maximin (£6.5m) start up top.

As for West Ham United, Aaron Cresswell (£5.5m), Vladimir Coufal (£5.0m), Tomas Soucek (£6.0m) and Michail Antonio (£7.5m), all of whom have double-digit FPL ownerships, feature in David Moyes’ 4-2-3-1 set-up.

Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) starts in goal ahead of new signing Alphonse Areola (£5.0m), while Angelo Ogbonna (£5.0m) recovers from the hamstring injury he picked up in pre-season to partner Craig Dawson (£5.0m) at centre-half.

Further forward, popular community pick Saïd Benrahma (£6.0m) will operate either as a no. 10 or perhaps wider on the left-flank, with headline act Antonio set to lead the line.

Kick-off at St. James’ Park is at 14.00 BST.

LINE-UPS

Newcastle United XI: Woodman, Krafth, Fernandez, Clark, Murphy, Hayden, Shelvey, Ritchie, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Wilson

nice move, not too early and not too late either, it is still just one gw into the new season. if you feel that taking a -4 this early can give you a better position ahead, then why not. if you have a plan, follow with it.

Let's dispel two popular myths: #1 Bruno is essential #GW1 Bench Boost is a terrible strategy only for casuals.

My Bench Boost is currently on 126 points with Torres to play. Bruno is not in the team, but the money saved is spread around to a bunch of good scores. 34 points from the bench.

Many ways to skin a cat. It's not right or wrong to go against the template, but it's something to consider. You don't have to be a sheep or seek approval for your different ways of playing the game. Just play your own game.

This is the first time I've done it, having thought about it in the past. I thought the conditions were perfect, some clear budget enables emerged, there was quite a lot of information available about who was fit and firing (ignore the late arrivals). And now I can play what's in front of me rather than setting up for a BB over a number of weeks, or holding the Wildcard until GW36 because I've planned for that all season.

But I still don't think everyone should BB in GW1, I just think people shouldn't dismiss it and laugh at totally write off the people going for it. It does make sense, there are good reasons behind it.

Well played! Didn't play it myself, but there were certainly a lot of cheap playing options available.

How's your team looking moving forward - will you need to wc soon or can hold for the fixture swings in gws 5-7?

Thanks. The plan is to WC over the IB for GW4. Happy with the team until then. If somehow it's in decent shape at that point (I doubt it) then I'll hold another few weeks for the next fixture swing. But GW4 looks good to switch off a number of teams.

Cheers. I was pretty big on both of them, really wanted to squeeze the in but wouldn't have been able to do if I had Bruno. 100% I would've left them both out to keep Bruno in a non BB team.

The funny thing if I came on here before the season and talked up Pereira and Alonso, people would have laughed it off or said it was "too risky". How is there a risk in picking attacking fullbacks in teams that keep CS, who score FPL points? We have transfers for a reason.

No happy to hold for now, looking at a GW4 Wildcard when the fixtures really turn against my team. But up until then the fixtures are superb.

Oh for sure. I've always liked to operate on my own. Triggerlips used a good analogy on his podcast recently comparing it to walking up to a stranger on the street and asking them to randomly pick heads or tails. That's pretty much what happens here when you ask for advice. No one really knows what is going to happen. Might as well do research for yourself, at least you know what the decision is based on then.

Good analogy. It's a strange phenomenon, I only come here for the information and FPL strategy discussions, that's the fun stuff. I've never posted a RMT, I don't see how a stranger is going to understand my plan or my thinking better than I already do. My BB team would've been ripped to shreds on here.

More on what you said, my favourite thing in FPL is making a decision that's all mine or differential and it paying off. And my least favourite thing in FPL is not doing that, going back to wha the herd is doing out of fear, and getting punished for not being brave. If I make a decision, based on valid reasoning, I'm way less bothered when it goes wrong.

Pereira looked good in CS and Alonso is Alonso. I considered having Pereira in my team, very difficult to think you would have been laughed at with him. Being forced to early WC and taking risks with having only one match with every sub just wasn't for me this season. For me the risk was too high.

Pereira is 3% owned, has competition for his place in the near future, didn't finish last season well, plays for a team with a 4.0 budget enabler available who won't get attacking returns. I'm fairly sure I wouldn't have got too much positive feedback for the pick, but I didn't ask.

Thanks Baps. Mostly I just wish people would be more open minded about alternative strategies! It's like all the creativity gets drained from loads of good managers hanging out in the FFS/Twitter bubble. It feels like every single team in my mini-leagues is the same.

Completely understandable. You're not wrong to go that way, just like I'm not wrong to go the other way. That's what makes the game great. I'm coming off two ordinary seasons, being different didn't work, but it is what is and I start the season trying to win FPL, not protect my history with a particular rank.

Cheers. That's a shame, I was wondering how yours had gone as I remember the pre-gameweek talk. I don't think going for Mane was a bad decision, it wasn't his day but it could've worked. You can't get everything right all the time, it's a game, but it's fun to have a go. Loads of people will mess up their Bench Boost later in the season anyway.

Son mising Kanes assists is rubbish, Kane hardly ever made assists before last year and Son still scored loads. I think this set up is made for Son, very fast attacking front three who will play narrow on the counter and assist each other. if i didn't have to have Salah and Bruno Son would be 100% nailed for me.

Its that spurs are a much crapper team now, pochs spurs were really good don't forget even if kane was missing, in recent times if it's not kane or son who is it? Son will still do well but as well as with Kane? I don't think so

Double figures with VC and bench scores added but still dreadful. Got to hope the 4 City come good.
