Sunday’s Premier League action kicks off at St. James’ Park as Newcastle United host West Ham United.

Joe Willock (£6.0m), who enjoyed a fine spell with the Magpies last season, completed his move from Arsenal on Friday afternoon but was not registered before the 12-noon deadline and will therefore have to wait until Gameweek 2 for his first appearance as a permanent signing.

With Martin Dubravka (£4.5m) injured and Karl Darlow (£4.5m) still feeling the effects of COVID, youngster Freddie Woodman (£4.5m) will make his Premier League debut and starts in goal.

At the back, bargain-bin enabler Javier Manquillo (£4.0m), owned by 10.1% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, misses out altogether as Steve Bruce opts for a 3-5-2 formation with Jacob Murphy (£5.0m) and Matt Ritchie (£5.0m) taking the wing-back roles.

Influential forwards Callum Wilson (£7.5m), owned by 7.2%, and Allan Saint-Maximin (£6.5m) start up top.

As for West Ham United, Aaron Cresswell (£5.5m), Vladimir Coufal (£5.0m), Tomas Soucek (£6.0m) and Michail Antonio (£7.5m), all of whom have double-digit FPL ownerships, feature in David Moyes’ 4-2-3-1 set-up.

Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) starts in goal ahead of new signing Alphonse Areola (£5.0m), while Angelo Ogbonna (£5.0m) recovers from the hamstring injury he picked up in pre-season to partner Craig Dawson (£5.0m) at centre-half.

Further forward, popular community pick Saïd Benrahma (£6.0m) will operate either as a no. 10 or perhaps wider on the left-flank, with headline act Antonio set to lead the line.

Kick-off at St. James’ Park is at 14.00 BST.

For all the morons wanting to sell assets before ht of the first game, a certain mo Salah had a bad first half in his first season and I almost sold him. Then he scored twice and assisted once on the way to a record breaking season. Calm the f down

A guy wrote yesterday here that he's shipping out Jota just because he was subbed out in the 60th minute. Just like that. Like he didn't score and played dreadful. I actually like those guys. With moves like that there's less competition. Let them make these idiotic transfers. Encourage them.

Of the 4m defenders, Livramento & Hoever seem the best placed to keep their spots.

Vest for Amartey, Veltman for Duffy, Robbo for Tsmikas.

Amartey won't. Tough to say with Livramento. If you're looking for a 4.0 then Duffy is probably worth a shout? The manager called him "immense" yesterday so he'll be hard done by if he doesn't continue in the team next game surely?

Don’t understand why he ever came out of the XI in the first place.

      Some nightmare picks so far

      Coufal Bachman Veltman Balogun Antonio

Sticking it out though and not gonna go hit crazy this year!

      Ride the rises and falls

      Only make completely necessary changes.

Coufal could still be a decent pick but not sure on this first half showing.

West Ham look average at best

4/5 of those I have too and a poor 8 point bench boost.

Yep I think it was a defendable call.

Ayling -> Veltman was annoying as came down on wrong side there and Brentford were very good / arsenal very poor which made a gamble on arsenal silly. But oh well

Double gameweeks involve massive amounts of rotation. I guarantee not all of your 15 players play when you bench boost on a double gameweek.

            • 8 Years

            1. Easy to get 4 players who are cheap and with good fixtures who can then be benched without too many headaches
            2. Bench boost often underwhelms anytime but takes a few weeks of transfers to set up.
            3. A 15-20 BB in GW 1 was pretty realistic (and achieved by others), just didn’t work this time!

I'm on BB and have 110 points so far with Wilson, Antonio, Benrahma in play and Torres to come. The bench has scored 33. So there's nothing with having a go in GW1, you need some luck, but you have quite a lot of information to work with, budget options available, and later on we don't have to worry about anything but what's right in front of us. Nothing wrong with your decision, just didn't pay off as it could have.

Looking at the Hammers bench, it's really weak. They don't have a squad to cope with PL and Europe. I'd planned to keep Antonio and Benhrama for 4 GWs only and jettison as soon as Europe kicks in. Nothing I'm seeing here is changing my mind,

Personal preference I guess, more fun when it's a close contest instead of watching one team spank another, though that is fun too

Avg over the whole yr is probably around 50-55 pts per gw

            So maybe 6-8 including captaincy

If you can get 60 points per week, every week, it's happy days. So like 3-4 blanking, returners averaging 5-5.5 PPG.

To answer slightly differently I recall last season the OR1 had an average of weekly 1M rank. So depending on whether it’s high or low scoring week as long as you’re close to that weekly rank consistently, the OR will be respectable.

Yeh it’s weekly OR a that’s key not the score. Even around the 1.5m mark week in week out probably gives you a decent season. I’m sure someone can run the numbers!
