Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) scored again for Manchester United as Said Benrahma (£6.4m) rewarded his owners with his first goal since Gameweek 2.

Neal Maupay (£6.5m) and Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) inspired Brighton and Hove Albion moved up to fourth after a 2-1 win over Leicester City, while Chelsea kept another clean sheet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Since making his second Manchester United debut in Gameweek 4, Cristiano Ronaldo has registered three goals, 13 goal attempts, 12 shots in the box, five big chances and 3.24 expected goals (xG), all league-leading totals. During that time, team-mate Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) has managed just one attempt in the box, though it did hit the post.
  • Following today’s game, Luke Shaw (£5.5m) ranks 30th amongst all defenders for FPL points with 18. Despite that, his 14 chances created is only bettered by Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), Jack Grealish (£8.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£7.5m), while his average position (no 23) v West Ham United was as advanced as Mason Greenwood (£7.7m) on the opposite flank.

Manchester United’s average position map v West Ham United in Gameweek 5

  • Man Utd delivered 33 crosses into the box against West Ham, their highest total in a single league game so far this season, with Shaw responsible for 16 of them.
  • Benrahma’s deflected effort for West Ham opened the scoring at the London Stadium, his first goal since Gameweek 2. The Algerian now ranks second amongst all midfielders for FPL points, only behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). Next up for the Hammers is a trip to Leeds United.
  • Brighton moved up to fourth in the Premier League table after a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, their fourth win of the season. Budget enabler Shane Duffy (£4.2m) supplied the assist for Maupay’s penalty, and has now provided 27 FPL points across his five starts.
  • It’s now three defeats in five matches for Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes in 2021/22. However, Jamie Vardy (10.4m) continues to produce, with three goals, one assist and five bonus points during that time.
  • It was a quiet afternoon for Spurs duo Harry Kane (£12.2m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m), as Chelsea restricted them to a combined four shots, with just one arriving in the box.
  • Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) made his fifth consecutive start today, as Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) still waits to play his first minute of Premier League football this season. Today’s assist for the Spaniard – his second attacking return of the campaign – means that he is now the top scoring defender in the game.

INJURIES AND BANS

The best goalkeepers for UEFA Champions League Fantasy

Edouard Mendy (£6.0m) missed out for Chelsea today, with Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.9m) replacing him in goal.

The Senegalese stopper was involved in a collision towards the end of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Zenit on Tuesday, which meant he had trouble diving.

“Edou got a huge hit, we tried everything in the last days but he never felt fully comfortable in diving.” – Thomas Tuchel

Yves Bissouma (£4.6m) appeared to pick up a knock at the Amex Stadium. Despite not being taken off initially, he was finally withdrawn after 79 minutes, with Graham Potter providing an update after the match:

“He was desperate to play, the medical department were ok with it. He extended his knee a little bit. As the game starts to go on, the fatigue might be a problem, but he was desperate to go out. It was a decision for the medical department.”

Elsewhere, Son made a surprise return from injury and played the full 90 minutes for Spurs, as did team-mate Eric Dier (£4.6m).

However, the injuries sustained by Lucas Moura (£6.5m) and Steven Bergwijn (£6.0m) in the Europa Conference League kept them out.

After serving one-match bans in Gameweek 5, Japhet Tanganga (£4.6m) and Michail Antonio (£7.9m) will both now be available for their respective teams next weekend.

Just watched MOTD2 and Barnes causing two disallowed goals speaks to what a bad start he’s had to this season and really makes me wonder why Rogers is still starting him

Impeding the GK's view although even that was probably debatable in those two instances. I couldn't make my own mind up with the camera angles provided on the broadcast.

Norwich had a goal ruled out late against Leicester for impeding the GKs view, seems they are fairly strict on it.

    TAA | Shaw | White
    Salah | Bruno | Jota | Raph | Benrahma
    Bamford | Toney

    Gunn | Livra | Scarlett | Hoever 2.6ITB, 1FT

    a) Toney > Antonio +1m
    b Toney + Bruno > Ronaldo (c) + 8.1m mid (Grealish/Sarr/etc)

My plan is to go with TAA, double Chelsea defence (probably Rudiger and Alonso), Semedo and Livra or Duffy.

Too bad that Chelsea don't have settled defence, but I think their double defence with those fixtures is a must.

Yes, alternatively to double Chelsea I am looking at Cancelo.
Just looking like such a threat and dare I say possibly not a significant risk of rotation.

I can't help but think that in those more favourable Chelsea fixtures Chilwell will get some game time, hence Alonso rotation.

Not sure on the 2nd Chelsea. Was thinking about Chilwell/ alonso but I think there's too much risk of split game time so I'll probably go with one of rudiger and Chris unless we get more info by GW8

Cancelo is also at risk I would say, especially with CL games.

Alonso will also be benched, no doubt, I just think he is less likely to get subbed in than James, so a strong bench could do a job. Livramento and Dennis could be great subs for that.

i have Alonso and i think he is more nailed than we think

His work rate up and down the left side offers the team additional man in the box and in the midfield...

He should be rested midweek, will play against City and most games.

Shaw is the most overrated fpl defender based on Ownership.

He was the most owned player in the game as at gw 1, kept on saying he ain’t no Roberto Carlos

Seeing lots of chat - understandably - about Chelsea defence but not a peep about Arsenal 🙂

White is intriguing at 4.4 - way better value I suggest than Duffy who runs out of fixtures very soon. The Arsenal green run stretches to infinity and beyond really. Tierney could be as good value at 4.9.

Certainly with Rudiger already in place I have White high up on watchlist for around GW8.

But White outpointed him this week despite attacking returns 🙂

Have Duffy and been playing. not benching him but will be moving him to 1st/2nd bench pretty much here on in apart from Norwich and Newcastle. Brighton have had a very cosy run of fixtures. Not sold on White yet but think he'd be where I'd go first if buying in that range now.

I still find it hard to trust Arsenal, two 1-0s, were lucky to not concede to Norwich despite having far more chances (although who hasn't against Norwich) and still yet to see highlights of Burnley game but they had a late penalty that was overturned right? Regardless they've been two of the worst teams in the division, was a good point for Arsenal to steady the ship but let's see how they cope against better opposition, Brighton, Palace and Villa will all be difficult for them and of course Spurs too next week.

      1. Moderately content penguin

I've only had an Arsenal asset for 2 weeks in my entire FPL career! So trust issues understood 🙂

Think the next 2/3 should be interesting as a test. The chances are I'll double Chelsea of get Cancelo as I'm rocking 3.9 mill itb but things don't always turn out the way you expect

Chelsea’s defence is rock solid, Arsenal’s defence is fairly solid.

Thing is I can’t spend 4.9 on an Arsenal defender. 4.5-4.7 for Takehiro or White would be my pick but for now I’ve got other fires to put out

I was looking hard at Gabriel. A little goal threat and decent baps.
Think I’d rather stump for a Che/City asset.

Any wise words will be much appreciated

    Shaw, Dias, Rüdiger, Semedo, Ayling

Mount came off today and Chelsea looked better. I think Tuchel is still figuring out how to get the mids and forwards to work together.

Weekly update on the Top 10K Finally league for regulars yet to crack top 10K.

Team of the week is Holmes's Out to Form which has shot up to 3k joining Abra Dubrvaka and Grealicious in the promised land. Sadly Andy S has dropped out after going Lukaku C but he's still right in touch.

Notable that 4 of the top 5 have played BB so the gaps are narrower than they appear and the median score is rising steadily.

Some pretty notable ownership trends. Around half the league had Wolves defence but just 4 had Chelsea 🙂 Imagine that's going to change a bit in a couple of weeks. Also the triple premium quotient rose from just 2 last week to 8 this week - that too could be a trend. Holmes it has to be said only has Mo right now. Antonio? Back down to 50% ownership - more or less the same as Jota.

Dead impressed you've managed to hold off WC after that early BB - feels like you're playing a blinder here.

You intending to keep Martinez? I now have a huge cash pile and wondering where to put it. Contemplating a gk move in a few and wondering about going upmarket to leave plenty of slots for Palace attack 🙂

Till WC, I'm willing to keep Martinez and cover tough game with Sanchez. Though GW8 looks like a dead end to that rotation, so I'm probably going to be forced to WC after that. Looking at Guaita as well.

Ideally I would like to hold WC till GW14 since that could be a good time to get a triple premium team. But injuries, doubts, forms are making it tough to even delay WC till GW8. 😀

            Jeez - you're planning ahead to GW14!!!

There's a logic to that approach in that by that time budgets will be swollen enough to afford 3 premiums and a team.

Not seeing too much wrong with your team. Ings was a solid hold and just Buendia looks out of place but surely he can play in defence in a blue shirt?

              Buendia is already gone 😀

"Ronaldo" is a pain, watched him play yesterday for the first time, watched AVL vs EVE game as well and I dont think he is going to blank in next 2 whatsoever.

        Sorry

Got a lot of entrants with deeply serious track records which rather killed the point of the league. Just got carried away when I started the eviction process 🙂 Never have known when to stop.

I've got no pressing issues at all, but would like to get some opinions.
My initial thought with 2 ft's was Greenwood > Sarr and bank the other one to maybe not play wc in gw7.

    Sanchez
    Trent Coufal Shaw Livramento
    Salah Jota Raphinha Greenwood
    CR7 Antonio
    Steele Toney Gilmour Williams

certainly don't need to play 2 this week, you are in good shape. don't know if it's worthwhile losing greenwood just yet home to AVL, i think he is still the starting choice for EPL while sancho starts in CL. Given Toney is bench, use your 1 transfer freeing up cash to Pukki or Dennis? Toney's fixtures fall off a cliff in comparison to those 2

Yeah this is where I'm at as well. I'm reconsidering selling just after watching the last few games. I can fit him in with Rom and Salah no problem, but just a matter of weakening the side by having to get a 4.5 fwd in.

Looked at a team for my GW8 WC this morning where I can fit Lukaku, Ronaldo, Salah in with another decent forward(possibly Toney), a 7-8m range mid, couple 6-7m range ones and a 5.5m range mid. But this will be at the expense of TAA. Giving it a thought tbh.

His stats are just off the charts - he has just put up 3.32 XG & 13 shots in the box in two games… ( https://understat.com/player/2371 )

For comparison, Salah for example has 3.54 XG and 18 shots in the box…. But in 5 games 😆

The one against Newcastle was 0.75 (they give 0.75 for a penalty)

But they cap individual open play shots at 0.25 - Lingard’s open goal vs Leicester the game before Newcastle for example, or Rashford free header in front of goal vs West Ham from Bruno’s cross (that he somehow missed 😆 )

Statsbomb/Fbref have him at 2.5xG. They don’t double count the two chances he got for the goal yesterday.

I think that the caiptancy is the key,if you plan to switch captain between Salah and Lukaku between let say 8-14 then 12.5 is too much imo,if you captain Ronaldo than easy keep

Now I am switching captain between Ronaldo and Salah and not having Lukaku didnt hurt me at all,and my team looks balanced,

I’m probably keeping for 7/8 but moving him to Rom in 9 come hell or high water.

I don’t care who he is, fixtures matter.

Ronaldo looks a much, much better option than Rom right now (and I have both).

Ronaldo shoots on sight. Lukaku keeps trying to assist his teammates, none of whom can finish.

FPL barely lasts for 6-8 hours and then the weekday starts.. it's a pain to wait for 5 days for next GW. A few staggered games would've been better.

Personally didn't like the staggered games tbh. Felt like a chore most times. Though it's tough to wait 5 or so days, it's still better this way imo.

Nah, atleast out of 5 games, one game is watchable.

It’s a massive step backwards for FPL managers

You’re now locked out of watching at least 4 live games, usually more (and all the information that comes with) whether you want to or not

Was so much better one by one - not least because it gave everyone the choice - if you didn’t have the patience or attention span to watch a game, or the time to watch the game, then you didn’t have to watch it

Now the choice is gone - want to watch both Man Utd Villa & Chelsea Man City this weekend? Tough shite, they’re on at the same time

Want to see how Everton, Leeds, Leciester, Watford and all the key FPL prospects therein do this weekend? Tough shite they’re on at the same time

(I don’t care what anyone says, having one game on the TV and one on a phone/tablet/laptop isn’t watching the game, you miss all the important detail)

Watching two games at once is just watching two games at once for the sake of watching. You absorb nothing from either games.

Yep agreed - personally I’d much prefer game by game & the choice it gave everyone

    TAA Alonso Dias Duffy Willams
    Salah Benhrama Jota Gray Greenwood
    Lukaku Bamford

Early trf Greenwood/Jota to Sarr/Zaha this week & double up on Chelsea defence Rudiger in gw7 or save the trf and do it next week?

Downgrading TAA to Semedo, to fund both Ronaldo n Lukaku is foolish, right?

      Extremely foolish.

If you’re downgrading TAA, only do it for a Chelsea or City defender.

Although I personally think that even without TAA, a 3-premium team is poor value and highly inflexible.

          - Salah is a must,
          - So it's whether Ronaldo can continue his insane stats in tougher games in which case we would need both Ron and kaku
          - Or is it an easy switch to Lukaku

He was a flat track bully last season, so it’s unlikely he keeps scoring in the tougher games. Plus you won’t captain him plus Bamford/Ings pretty much matched him this week.

This is one issue(and my initial one as well) due to which I'm not 100% about having both yet. Both Lukaku and Ronaldo are flat track bullies who are better against weaker oppositions. Hence I need to see something from Ronaldo against a tough-ish opposition. They have Everton in GW7, but I'm not sure if Everton classify as a tough opposition right now tbh.

Why is it if you bring in Rudiger pre Tot MCI you're a genius but if you bring Lukaku in pre Tot MCI you've done it two weeks too early?

    1. The Philosopher

Because Rudiger returned and Lukaku didn't

I guess it’s because Chelsea‘s defence is very hard to break down and tough games (whether you wanna include Spurs or not), tend to be tight.

      🙂

That was tough. There was enough in the Palace game though to suggest that Spurs attack was significantly down on their defence. No touches in the box for Kane and only really looked like conceding when down to 10.

Could yet be different story next week
