Spurs' issue is partly the manager, but mainly the owners and Daniel Levy. They either want to win trophies or they want to make loads of profit. It is very difficult to do both. Some honesty from Levy and ENIC (i.e. Joe Lewis) about the aims of the business (and Spurs' is a business when you look at how it is run) would go some way to help with the expectations of the players, the managers / coaches and the fans.

He was a panic appointment though - a consequence of the extreme dysfunctionality manifest throughout the leadership of that club

And then to follow that up with agreeing a deal with Fonseca, having him start moving to London, then panic & pull the plug on a whim as soon as Gattuso becomes available? Then panic and pull the plug on Gattuso when they saw the fan's reaction? Then panic and appoint Nuno?

Levy is a massive part of the problem

Nuno was never going to be a success, not wanted just appointed as no one else would take it. Wrong brand of football, which Levy is ignorant to as well.
