It’s time to introduce FanTeam’s festive bonanza: the World Championship of Fantasy Football (WCOFF), an event that will take place in Gameweeks 24 and 25.

There’s a whopping €500,000 prize pot to be split between the top 121 competitors, with wallet-widening rewards ranging from €1,500 to €100,000.

Unless you are particularly flush with cash, ignore the £1k buy-in – the great news is that qualification can be earned by succeeding in feeder (or “satellite” contests, to use the correct terminology) beforehand for a lot less money.

Our in-house FanTeam expert and last year’s season-long £200k winner, Josh Wooldridge, did just that in December when triumphing in some midweek satellites that only cost a few quid to enter.

One of your last chances to win a WCOFF ticket through a satellite event will be via the Burnley v Watford match this Saturday, so head on over to the FanTeam lobby to find the tournament that is shown below:

THE WCOFF PRIZE POOL

HOW TO PLAY FOR €500k FROM LITTLE MORE THAN £2

Last chance to turn little more than £2 into €100k with FanTeam's 'WCOFF' event 1

FanTeam have created a three-step system that gives users the chance to qualify for as little as £1.68. You will find the satellites in the tournament lobby up until the WCOFF begins, most of which you’ll see above.

  • Step 1 – From €2/£1.68 entry

Start your journey for as little as €2/£1.68 and battle it out to qualify for entry to Step 2.

  • Step 2 – Qualifying ticket from Step 1 or €55 entry

If you have qualified from Step 1 you gain a ticket into any Step 2 event of your choosing. It’s only if you want to skip the first step, will you then have to pay the €55 entry fee. Step 2 tournaments will also be running regularly so spot the one you think you have the best chance at and go for the ticket to the big one

  • Step 3 – Qualifying ticket from Step 2 or €1,000 entry

If you have made it to Step 3 then that is it: you have won your €1,000 seat to the big event!

ARE FANTEAM’S RULES THE SAME AS FPL?

Here’s the great news: anyone with any sort of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) experience should be able to pick up FanTeam’s game without issue. The rules, scoring and prices are very similar, shown in detail below.

It’s essentially FPL but with huge cash prizes. Given that paid entry mini-leagues are now strongly discouraged by the Premier League, the FanTeam game offers Fantasy managers a legitimate opportunity to make money from their management expertise.

Unlike the main FanTeam game, WCOFF is essentially two Free Hit teams of 11 players – one for Gameweek 24 and one for Gameweek 25. There is a 105.0m budget, with at least one goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders and one forward to be picked.

A maximum of three players from a single Premier League team can be selected. There are no substitutes.

Additionally, a captain and vice-captain has to be nominated every week; the player handed the armband will score double points.

All sound very familiar? That’s because the two games are largely the same – although there are a handful of differences to watch out for.

KEY RULES DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM WCOFF AND FPL
  • Player prices can rise and fall based on form and in-game transfer movement but, unlike in FPL, a player’s ‘sell price’ is the same as their ‘purchase price’.
  • The ‘Safety Net’ feature makes up for the lack of substitutes. If your player doesn’t start a match, he’ll automatically be replaced by the next-priced (descending) starter in that team’s position who did. For example, if midfielder Mohamed Salah was rested, he would be switched for a cheaper Liverpool midfielder who played, like Sadio Mane.

HOW DO PLAYERS SCORE POINTS?

Seasoned FPL managers should have no problem in adjusting to FanTeam and running a squad with its familiar scoring system, shown above.

KEY SCORING DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FANTEAM AND FPL
  • There is no Bonus Points System, which is replaced by plus/minus points (+0.3/-0.3) if a team is winning/losing during the period a player is on the pitch.
  • Goalkeepers get 0.5 points for every save made, unlike the one point awarded in FPL for increments of three stops.
  • Committing a foul that leads to a free-kick goal or converted penalty is penalised by minus two points.
  • Midfielders and forwards get an extra point for completing the full match.
  • Shots on target that don’t end up as goals are rewarded (+0.4 for midfielders and forwards, +0.6 for defenders)

The "big chances conceded" table is rather wonky for the last 4 matches

Norwich flying high, surprisingly dining with Man City, Palace, Spurs (!), Liverpool and Villa (!)

Leicester peeling away as the league's worst defence for BCC, and they're being consistent with conceding 2+ goals per game too

Playing backyard 5-a-side with the Leicester schoolboy defence are the likes of Watford, Everton, Brentford and, err... Arsenal (!)

There's the urge to write off Arsenal's BCC count as "Liverpool and Man U", but Everton had the ball in Ramsdale's net four times (twice ruled out by tight margins). Those are worrying signs

Norwich are such a defensive team now. They basically play with 8 defensive players I think. United might only manage to score the odd goal or two at Carrow Road.

Think Everton will now with a win under their belt, good fixtures and most of the injured players back.

      Hi Guys

In your opinion is the best 5.0 MF for this front eight for the next few GWs

      Salah Rapinha Jota ESR xxxxxxxx

      Ronaldo Jesus Armstrong

      Any ideas would be welcomed

        5.0: Fred
        4.5: D. Luiz
4.4: Gilmour, maybe Brownhill/Bissouma for the DGWs (I think SGW players in your XI will outscore them in DGWs)

On WC with my weakest 5 players being Coufal, Dalot, Gray, Dennis and Locadia. This leaves me with 2 strong bench players and 0.0m ITB

My only reservations are Dalot (not being nailed and doubled up with DDG) and also not having any spare funds for future moves. Any changes you'd make here?

I think it might be. I would be looking to remove Foster over Sanchez due to Brighton potentially having a DGW but you then using more of your budget than you want on GKs

Yeah I'm starting to think that. To be honest I'd be going for Bachmann so it wouldn't cost me anything

I guess it depends how you see the Watford Brentford game will end up. Will the hit pay off this GW or is it best just getting 0 points if you are only considering Bachman?

Would you be happy with this bench over this busy period? Not a huge fan of 2*4.4m taking up the midfield spots if I decide to bring in Ronaldo.

          Foster, Livramento, Gilmour and Brownhill

          Rest of the team:
          Ramsdale
          TAA Cancelo James Alonso
          Salah Jota Bernardo
          Antonio King Ronaldo

I would prefer Bowen over Antonio (to Dennis) and upgrading Livra to Dalot/Coufal. But depends on your team atm if you can do it. Having CR7 and starting bench is better combo than no CR7 and good bench. After first illness or injury you get probably funds to do something.

              It's essentially Bowen + 4.5ITB for upgrades or Ronaldo + 0.7ITB with 2 options I'm looking at

              A. Brownhill and Kane to Bowen and King (-4) 4.5ITB
              B. Toney and Kane to King and Ronaldo (-4) 0.7ITB

              1FT 0.1TB
              Ramsdale
              TAA Cancelo James Alonso Livramento
              Salah Jota Bernardo
              Antonio Kane

I did "repair" my WC gw9 with -8 and have gotten 7 green arrows since. I don't like taking hits, but I hate having wrong players in my team even more. Having suddenly 5 flags + Son from nowhere (zero before gw started) was just one of these things when all you can do is react (even though some just cry here).

Because of his wrist. That doesn't mean he is out although yes Dalot will likely start this weekend.

Everyone on WC, yes. Most of us others are simply too busy with the likes of Son and Toney out and getting Ronaldo in, that he has to wait.

I don't think he is nailed. People are picking Dalot as they believe he is a better RB than AWB. We only have 2 games of info and the 2nd game under Rangnick was a dead rubber

Great fixtures, and I want a similar price Son replacement… I already have the popular mids atm like Bernardo/Jota etc…

I'm not convinced with Sancho as a FPL option yet and Rashford has competition in that spot with Greenwood, Cavani, Martial etc.

              Best option this week

              A) Livramento

              B) Sissoko

              C) Mount -4

              Guaita
              Taa, Rudiger, Tomiyasu, Livramento
              Jota, Salah, Son, Raphinha
              Hwang, Ronaldo

              Foster, Bissouma, Coady, Davis

              1 FT 1.8 ITB

              Hwang>Dennis

              Any other suggestions?

I see many people transferring out Raph.

                Currently have a bench of:
                Reguillon, Son, Toney.

Already made a change this week. I have King so can’t do Toney > King and have 0.0 ITB.

I’m thinking of Reguillon -4 for Dalot and then have Livra first sub.

I’d ideally lose Toney but nobody I want in that slot.

                Thoughts?

                Unpopular opinion:

Bruno could be a better FPL player to own than Ronaldo over the festive period.
