The only Premier League match of the day sees Leeds United face Arsenal, with kick-off at Elland Road at 17:30 GMT.

Five other top-flight fixtures scheduled for today, the last of which was Aston Villa v Burnley, fell by the wayside after Covid-19 ripped through the football calendar.

The evening match is still standing, however, despite the fact that Marcelo Bielsa’s squad has been ravaged by injury.

Ten senior Leeds players are unavailable for the clash with the Gunners, with Diego Llorente added to the nine we already knew about.

Bielsa’s four changes are all enforced, with Jamie Shackleton, Llorente, Daniel James and Junior Firpo all out.

Robin Koch returns from injury, while Joe Gelhardt, Cody Drameh and Mateusz Klich also come into the side.

The Whites’ very youthful bench contains 15-year-old Archie Gray, with the average age of the hosts’ substitutes being less than 19 years old.

Arsenal’s team news is a serene picture by comparison, as the visitors are unchanged for the fourth match in a row.

Emile Smith Rowe remains a substitute as a consequence, with the fit-again Bernd Leno joining him on the bench.

The Gunners do have a confirmed Covid-19 case, however: Albert Sambi Lokonga misses out after testing positive.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang also sits this one out following a recent disciplinary breach.

GAMEWEEK 18 LINE-UPS

Leeds United XI: Meslier, Drameh, Ayling, Koch, Dallas, Forshaw, Raphinha, Klich, Roberts, Harrison, Gelhardt.

Subs: Klaesson, Bate, Summerville, Greenwood, McCarron, Jenkins, Moore, Kenneh, Gray.

Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Saka, Partey, Xhaka, Martinelli, Odegaard, Lacazette.

Subs: Leno, Smith Rowe, Holding, Soares, Pepe, Nuno Tavares, Chambers, Elneny, Nketiah.

Same could be said about Arsenal I'd say. The average in age is higher in todays Leeds lineup for all it's worth.

Age in starting lineup for Arsenal:
        23
        23 - 24 - 23 -24
        20 - 28 - 29 - 20
        23
        30

Age in the starting lineup for Leeds:
        21
        20 - 30 - 25 - 30
        31 - 30
        25 - 22 - 25
        19

Yes, I mean - Arsenal fans shouldn't get overoptimistic either, don't really think they are able to fight for top4, but we will see. But I still think Arteta is a decent manager, Arsenal just don't have good enough team to compete with the top4, even Spurs have better players imho.

They're pretty much back to where they were in the late Wenger years: a good youth policy, efficient against the teams they should be beating, but still a distance behind the top 2-3 clubs.

Which really isn't bad for Arsenal in 2021, all things considered.

Agree completely. I remember calling it after those first 3 games. Realistically Arsenal didn't have the squad to be competitive against top sides. 4th is the best they can possibly hope for and they are doing it. Can't ask for more really.

    7. ElChapo
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 2 months ago

was there ever a threat of them getting relegated? Realistically no.

Are they a big team anymore? no, they haven't been for the past 10-12 years.

Of course they're a big team. Sorry but this is a ridiculous comment. They're not competitive at the highest level anymore but neither are Man Utd, neither even is Barcelona anymore - would you say they're not big teams?

        1. ElChapo
          • 7 Years
          4 years, 2 months ago

I think United/Barcelonas historical success and the fact they are both massive draws for players/fans and are basically classed as institutions means that they have enough 'in the bank' to be a massive club for the near future even if they continue to be poor.

Recent successes mean Chelsea and City are much bigger clubs than Arsenal, Liverpool (like united) will always be bigger clubs than Arsenal.

Do arsenal compete in europe? No
Have arsenal ever seriously competed in Europe? No (1 final loss
Do arsenal compete in the premier league? No
Have arsenal recently competed in the premier league? No
Do arsenal compete in signing the best players? No

United and Liverpool are at the top, then City and Chelsea, then there's a huge gap - then comes clubs like Spurs, Arsenal & Villa

I agree about Liverpool and Utd being bigger. Not quite so sure about Chelsea and City but maybe you're giving more of a weighting to recent years than I am. Think we're just basing on different criteria - it's a pretty subjective thing I guess. Anyway, thanks for response - was interesting to see the logic.

Early thoughts if all games are on

Wilson ➡ Antonio for free gives me -

    Ramsdale
    TAA - Cancelo - James
    Salah - Foden - Jota - Bernardo - ESR
    Lacazette - Antonio

    Foster - Watkins - Livramento - Manquillo

If Aubameyang is out in the cold, he has apparently trained up top too.

Realistically can play anywhere across the front. Just often injured.

Great player, I got him in a season or two ago when he was a 4.5m FWD -right- before he got a long term injury!

    - Did not do DDG > Ramsdale (-4)
    - No other Arsenal defence

Decent outcome. Leeds goal really helped. ESR goal took the shine off.

You can pick your entire first 11 with top 4 players if you squeeze Dennis in there as well.

This is not a bad idea. The quality of most of the league is very poor.

Gabriel from Arsenal has more points than most strikers.

Shame about all the blanks. I mean Spurs have 3-4 games in hand on Arsenal. Will have to rip up our teams to get the likes of Son, Regullon etc

Agreed mate. Just interesting they give Bilva that assist v Watford as 'he still had control of the ball' which is ambiguous at best and yet many would argue Lacazette got the last touch before the third goal.

I think he’ll get back in the team at some point and I hope it doesn’t end this way.

But having the captaincy taken and being made to train alone is pretty big, so something behind the scenes has happened that we don’t know. I don’t like the way he’s been frozen out because he’s done quite a lot for Arsenal, which a lot of people forget. We’ll probably buy a new striker in the summer once Laca leaves.

Some FPL managers pretending hanging onto Raphinha was skill and not because they had other fires to put out.

The worst fixtures and getting 2 pens in the last 3 (usually 4th choice taker) while others are out injured.

He recently got his first Brazil cap. Scored two goals and 2 assists in 5 games. He got lucky to get some pens, one in particular for an accidental handball. Joke of a rule. He's the equivalent of Grealish keeping Villa up. Leeds are awful, without Raphinha they'd be heading for relegation and might even go down yet. I'm reluctant to sell a form player just because fixtures look tough.

Yeah but I can easily get Laca in now for Watkins or whoever I want with 2 free transfers. I lost 5 points, not exactly a loss, but having 2 free transfers in this current climate seems like a win

People saying Laca non-owners got lucky clearly haven't watched the guy play over the years. Class link up player but can't finish for the life of him - he's only been picked by most because of a complete lack of alternatives.
