Despite 10 teams missing out on Gameweek 18, all of the Premier League’s current top three are still in action.

That means there are options beyond Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) for the latest captaincy decision, especially for the more maverick managers amongst us.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 18 Captain Poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Saturday’s 13:30 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

As you can see from the current results, Mohamed Salah is the leader of the Gameweek 18 captain poll. The Egyptian midfielder has accumulated 52.57% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden (£8.0m) is in second place, backed by 9.44% of users, ahead of his trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Ollie Watkins (£7.7m) occupied third place with 8.53% of votes before Aston Villa’s game was postponed, with the top-five list completed by Manchester City duo Joao Cancelo (£6.8m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m), with 6.91% and 6.2% respectively.

MOHAMED SALAH AND TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 14? 2

Mohamed Salah netted his 22nd goal of the season on Thursday, and in doing so, has equalled Jamie Vardy’s (£10.6m) record of scoring or assisting in 15 successive Premier League games. That means he has blanked just once across the opening 17 Gameweeks, as he continues to show a frightening level of consistency.

However, it’s worth noting that Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.2m) has outscored Salah in six of the last seven Gameweeks, thanks to a goal, four assists, four clean sheets and 12 bonus points.

Agreed and with FH how u know the players haven’t tested positive overnight ?

Defo. Also if you don't have FH for DGW you'll get a massive rank drop against those who still have it

You're probably right. My thinking was I could only field like 6 players, just felt too low. I always get stung on double player weeks, normally triple captain only for them to be rested for one of the games also lol

Remember a lot of managers will only field 9 or 10 this week so not the end of world not to have a full XI

I tend to have a little more prep for a double gameweek though and usually use my bench boost and load my bench with double gameweekers or use my triple captain for a small double… really depends on how your team is set up and personal preference I think but I can see both sides of the argument and have kept hovering between the two options.

I’m playing mine. I can only get 6 players without hits this week and Some of those are doubts. I think I’ll make more playing it this week than a double.

I agree though if you can get 9 or 10 out this week without hits then you are better to use it in a double but it would take a -16 for me to get 11 out this week.

That's the thing, I know I've possibly jumped the gun a little here but with 6 to field and 2/3 I'd say are not guaranteed to start because, well, Pep roulette, that was a bridge too far for me. I think if I could of fielded a confident 9 of starting and at most a -8 I'd of gone that way.

As for not knowing if more will test positive overnight, this is true but covid ain't going anywhere so it's the gamble we run every week technically

Plus you can load up your bench with players from today’s game just in case any tomorrow don’t play or the games get called off. People not using their fee hit might be stumped if any games tomorrow are off

Still not sure FH with loads of 2-pointers are worth it over saving it, taking a hit to both improve your team and field 8/9 players and play it with a full DGW squad later on

I think you've made a good call. With only 6 playing, you needed to make a lot of hits to get a full team out.

I did it last week with success. Just make sure you have a full bench, you might still need them

It's frustrating as he said he was fine when he went off, I've held him and he's missed another two, he was back in full training yesterday and judging by the comments should be ok but I'm guessing by the way things have been going for me he'll only make the bench.

    My team for this week:

    Ramsdale
    Cancelo Rüdiger TAA Cash
    Saka Salah Jota Mount
    Jesus Wilson
    no playing bank

    FT was Livramento to Cash

    What can go wrong?

Good luck and be carefull with hits.

    Hey all,

Any comments or views on me wild card team
    Ramsdale (Foster)
    Cancelo TAA Rudiger Cash (Davies)
    Salah Jota B.Silva Foden Mount
    Watkin (Broja) (King)

Broja isn't nailed (avg 61 min last 6 gw) but all budget allowed. I will often set up at 4-5-1 with watkins upfront. I thought about tot gk cause of 3 games in hand so save a transfer when they play double GW but can work out who to downgrade. Also can downgrade a mid if a bamford / calvert /antonio option starts to produce.
    Thoughts?

Perfect. Good time to get rid of those bench players too if you wanted (like livramento)

I’m even taking out players with good fixture as I expect both dgw and fixtures being cancelled next week. Better to plan week to week rather than longer term imo.

Isn’t that what we just tell ourselves to convince ourselves the hit is worth it?

It’s only a -2 after the game once the incoming player doesn’t get carded or concedes 2 goals for defender

Easily Lacazette, for me. Danny Ings in waiting.

I prefer Watkins long-term. Laca is an awkward price-point too.

Depends. I'm getting Ronaldo back next week or the week after depending on if he has covid. So Lacazette is better for me. If you're going long term switch probably Watkins as Arsenal fixtures after next 2 aren't great.

I would go Lacazette for the differential pick and he's on pens (as long as he can scored them)

I sold him last week for Watkins which allowed me to upgrade Scarlett to Antonio, don't plan on getting Ronaldo back, need a stronger squad although I'm still screwed this week

    Sanchez Foster
    TAA CANCELO JAMES WHITE
    SALAH SAKA FODEN JOTA
    WATKINS

    Galla Livra King Scarlett

    1 FT 4.5 ITB

    A) Foster > Ramsdale (two playing keepers but double up on Arsenal defence)
    B) Livra > Cash
    C) Galla > Raphinha
    D) Sanchez > Ramsdale

Any of the above for -4?

    I currently have 9 players, and no forwards, would you do;
    A. Antonio to Watkins (but Antonio’s fixtures are so tempting)
    B. Livra to White (but gives me 3 Ars)
    C. Both for -4

Bit gutted missing out on the 0.2 price swing on Antonio > Lacazette. Is it still the right thing to do? Exact money.

    James, TAA, Mings, Cancelo
    Salah, B.Silva, Son, Jota

Somehow have a team of 10 (no GK) with 1 flagged on bench and not taken a hit:

    Guaita (no game)
    TAA, James, Cancelo, Robertson
    Salah, Gundogan, Bernardo, ESR, Ramsey
    Wilson

Gunnarsson (out), Reguilon, Antonio, King (both out)

Who to captain and vice captain from that lot?

Is anyone else reluctant to take loads of hits today?

I have 8 starting (if they all start). To make 11 I'm losing players I kinda want, and those players are going to have DGW now (OK, perhaps not soon). Player values will be lost with this too, if I want them back.

Is this madness? Should I be taking hits to try and make 11?

I’m taking a -4 to field 11, perfect excuse/week to ship Duffy and Pukki out of my team.

Wouldn’t sell players you want after this week though

        Cheers.

Yeah, the only two I can really consider ditching are Livramento (might be wise) or Bowen (great fixtures).

Not sure what starting defender (this week) that I can get for 4.4m, that I'd want going forward. Ben Davies has some good games coming, but it's Liverpool this weekend. 😐

Camzy said it somewhere points now better than points later.

There will be more news next week in light of dgw, and more cancellations. Playing it week by week feels like the right call to me.

Will you want every single player back if you sold them this week? I suspect not.

How much value are you losing with these players that you sell? Post your team and what your possible moves could be, might help for a better discussion.

        Thanks for that.

        I'm on:

        Ramsdale, Bachmann
        TAA, James, Cancelo, Lamptey, Livramento
        Salah, Jota, Odegaard, Bowen, Gallagher
        Ronaldo, Dennis, Watkins

I have just 0.2itb and one FT.

The only player I really want rid of at all would be Livra - and that would give me 4.4 to get a replacement. Ben Davies looking the best bet on that. Most of the other options, while looking kinda template, have been there ages and have good ranked up transfer value. They have good fixtures, so am reluctant to sub out. Would consider Bowen (no transfer value built up).

Same and I guess good time to ship junk but I want ddg, Ronaldo, Gallagher, Bilva, only not interested in Livra so will get rid as ft and field 9 including Gelhardt who I can't swap for anythjng decent even with 1.5 itb

Yeah, I've posted my team above.

Livra I'm considering, but I'd only have 4.4 (with my 0.2itb factored in), so there's not a lot of choice that plays this weekend.

I've been getting ripped a new one the last few weeks and I'm gonna be without Son and Reguilon again this week aren't I?

What a disaster those two have been, this will be the 4th game week they've missed for me in recent weeks now!

Can't really -8 them out now though can I?

Best laid plans might blow up in our faces this GW. I’m going to try (try) and laugh this GW off a little bit if it all goes a bit a wry … as it’s kind of set up to be disappointing so will be looking to take the small victories if the appear.
