Sell Salah, Free Hit and who to captain in Gameweek 19? What FPL managers think

There are some big questions facing Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers ahead of Gameweek 19 and earlier in the week we set up some polls to gauge opinion on the key talking points.

Here’s how you voted over the last few days:

SELL SALAH IN GAMEWEEK 19?

Not far off 50% of responders are planning to offload Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) without a chip this week, with the vast majority of those not planning to buy him back before he departs for the Africa Cup of Nations after Gameweek 21.

FREE HIT OR NOT IN GAMEWEEK 19?

Over one in five Fantasy managers said they were planning to play their Free Hit chip this week but circa 30% were undecided at the time of voting, so there could be more in the offing – particularly as Spurs v Palace looks set to go ahead.

WHO TO CAPTAIN IN GAMEWEEK 19?

We’ve been used to seeing Salah mop up over 50% of the vote in our captaincy poll in recent months and the race is blown wide open this week, with Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) leading the way with just over a third of the vote.

EXTRA FREE HIT: FOR OR AGAINST?

The decision by FPL to grant managers an extra Free Hit proveded to be a divisive one – more said they were against the move than in favour of it in on on-site poll but the result was reversed in the corresponding Twitter vote.

    In these covid times the sensible thing to do would be changing the deadline to 30 mins before the first match. This would allow us to know about the Leeds game being called off and plan accordingly and also see the 3pm line ups. It's clear fpl don't care about us anymore. The 1.30pm announcement re. Leeds Villa is salt in the wounds for many.

      Money leagues aren't run by Official FPL. Don't understand why anyone on here would delay their moves to the last moments. Most on here are playing long enough and pay enough attention.

      I totally expected it to crash and acted accordingly. I guessed the whole world would be trying to make last second transfers and so did mine earlier. Risk/reward. If I'd waited and it hadn't gone through I'd deal with it. Even if it turns out it hasn't gone through I'd still say fair enough.

      Yeah agree with you, it's pretty unfortunate. Last week I got Watkins before the game got called off. This week I waited and ended up not being able to make a transfer due to crash (still waiting to confirm this, but site crashed as I hit the button). People who say 'you should expect that' are being tools.

    Though the site crashing this week of all weeks is unfortunate for many, it's no surprise as I believe a lot(and by a lot, I mean a lot) of people were looking to make very late moves this week. No moves could turn out well in the end though. GL to all the movers and non movers 😀 cheers

    Not only didn’t do my moves go through (assuming crash didn’t register them) I burnt a transfer (had 2) and NFI who my C and VC was on. Pretty sure one was Salah! Son was going to be C

      Situations like today are why the deadline should be when the first match kicks off. You’d have millions of people making their moves spread out over the course of 30 minutes to an hour, rather than 30 seconds to a minute.

      Or they could just fix their website.

        It's likely because people transferred 2 hours before and got caught out last time.

        I persisted and my final transfer and sub selection just went through.

      So my transfer went through I think but I have a dilemma/q:
      My parents have a joint team but my dad is a tech spaz so my Mum looks after it for him. I told them there was a deadline with 50 mins to go and then I went off to do other things.
      I come down at 31 past and ask, my mum hasn't done anything with their team - and my dad is asleep, when he wakes up and finds out he is gonna have a childish strop and i cba.

      Do you think me/my Mum should lie and say that the site didn't update?
      Or that FPL will let us make the changes at 3pm?

        You're not really lying if you tell him the site crashed just as you were trying to update. Well a bit lying but FPL will surely post something about it and ye're all cool and the gang. What he doesn't know won't hurt him.

        Because some of us understand the risks of COVID cancellations and wait until as late as possible to make changes. It was about 2 to 3 minutes before deadline. I kept my transfer ready and was just going to hit the button as late as possible( im still hoping my transfer went through but I'm not expecting it to tbh)

        Server crash risk during last minutes is higher than possibility of getting covid cancellation news. I can still somehow understand leaving one transfer late, but not pressing FH in time was just stupid imo.

        Yeah it's a risk you have to take either do them early enough and risk postponements or late enough and it might crash. I myself did them 15-20 minutes before deadline.

        I have had enough of those kinda crash experiences that's why I have always thought that you need to ,make them as late as possible, but try to avoid last minute transfers as well. There are 9 million players it's almost a given the site for many will crash if a lot of them try to make transfers at the same time.
