The UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League recommence in February following a two-month break.

As we have learned the hard way in the past, that could have a knock-on effect for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers regarding squad rotation in the top-flight.

Six Premier League sides are still involved in European action: Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham United and Leicester City.

With that in mind, we thought it was worth a look at the fixture schedule for those teams up until the next international break in March, and then revisit the article at that point, when we’ll know more about postponements and rearranged matches.

MANCHESTER CITY

FPL Gameweek 17 round-up: Tuesday review, injury news and the things we learned
  • Saturday 5 February: FA Cup fourth round – Fulham (h)
  • Wednesday 9 February: Gameweek 24 – Brentford (h)
  • Saturday 12 February: Gameweek 25 – Norwich City (a)
  • Tuesday 15 February: Champions League last 16 – Sporting (a)
  • Saturday 19 February: Gameweek 26 – Tottenham Hotspur (h)
  • Saturday 26 February: Gameweek 27 – Everton (a)
  • Wednesday 2 March: FA Cup fifth round
  • Sunday 6 March: Gameweek 28 – Manchester United (h)
  • Wednesday 9 March: Champions League last 16 – Sporting (h)
  • Monday 14 March: Gameweek 29 – Crystal Palace (a)
  • Saturday 19 March: Gameweek 30 – Brighton and Hove Albion (h) *

* possible blank due to clash with FA Cup quarter-finals

City’s schedule is predictably intense, with only two free midweeks right up until the international break in March, providing they get past Fulham in the FA Cup fourth round of course.

Having dropped points at Southampton last weekend, their lead at the top of the table could be cut to six points if Liverpool win their game in hand, which encouragingly for Fantasy managers, suggests they won’t be taking their foot off the gas anytime soon.

The league match against Norwich City in Gameweek 25 could see a degree of rotation, however, with their Champions League tie in Portugal just three days later followed by the visit of Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur. Still, Pep Guardiola’s previous comments about City’s players needing “rhythm” are worth bearing in mind, given that they will have only played two fixtures following the winter break when they visit Carrow Road.

In terms of personnel, the centre-backs could perhaps be at risk, with Ruben Dias (£6.3m), Aymeric Laporte (£5.7m) and John Stones (£5.2m) all featuring recently. Further forward, Ilkay Gundogan (£7.2m) could step-in, having barely been involved in first-team action during January, whilst Phil Foden (£8.0m), Raheem Sterling (£10.8m), Riyad Mahrez (£8.6m), Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) and Jack Grealish (£7.6m) are all options in the attacking spots.

Notably, no fixtures need rescheduling, at least for now.

LIVERPOOL

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 18?
  • Sunday 6 February: FA Cup fourth round – Cardiff City (h)
  • Thursday 10 February: Gameweek 24 – Leicester City (h)
  • Sunday 13 February: Gameweek 25 – Burnley (a)
  • Wednesday 16 February: Champions League last 16 – Inter Milan (a)
  • Saturday 19 February: Gameweek 26 – Norwich City (h)
  • Sunday 27 February: Carabao Cup final – Chelsea (n)
  • Wednesday 2 March: FA Cup fifth round
  • Saturday 5 March: Gameweek 28 – West Ham United (h)
  • Tuesday 8 March: Champions League last 16 – Inter Milan (h)
  • Saturday 12 March: Gameweek 29 – Brighton and Hove Albion (a)
  • Sunday 20 March: Gameweek 30 – Manchester United (h) *

* possible blank due to clash with FA Cup quarter-finals

Like City, Liverpool’s schedule is also pretty chocka, with their Champions League first-leg tie at Inter Milan sandwiched between Premier League fixtures against Burnley and Norwich, which could therefore see a bit of rotation.

After their trip to Carrow Road, they could also feasibly fit in one of their postponed matches – Leeds United (h) or Arsenal (a) – as a result of UEFA allowing Premier League fixtures to be rearranged on Champions League nights. That would mean they play twice in Gameweek 26, though that is purely speculation at this point.

The Reds, of course, have a blank Gameweek 27, given their involvement in the Carabao Cup final on that same weekend. There is potential for a fixture to drop in during the following midweek, and as a result stay in the Gameweek, though that would require them to lose against Cardiff City in the FA Cup fourth round.

Jurgen Klopp, at least in the past, hasn’t been one for mass rotation, but the fact his squad performed admirably during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) may encourage him to step that up if necessary, with the likes of Ibrahima Konate (£5.1m), Kostas Tsimikas (£3.7m), Curtis Jones (£5.0m) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (£5.8m) all squad options who could come in.

CHELSEA

The best FPL midfielders for a Double Gameweek 22 Free Hit 2
  • Saturday 5 February: FA Cup fourth round – Plymouth Argyle (h)
  • Wednesday 9 February: Club World Cup semi-finals
  • Saturday 12 February: Club World Cup final/third-place play-off
  • Saturday 19 February: Gameweek 26 – Crystal Palace (a)
  • Tuesday 22 February: Champions League last 16 – Lille (h)
  • Sunday 27 February: Carabao Cup final – Liverpool (n)
  • Wednesday 2 March: FA Cup fifth round
  • Saturday 5 March: Gameweek 28 – Burnley (a)
  • Sunday 13 March: Gameweek 29 – Newcastle United (h)
  • Wednesday 16 March: Champions League last 16 – Lille (a)
  • Saturday 19 March: Gameweek 30 – Norwich City (a) *

* possible blank due to clash with FA Cup quarter-finals

With up to three blanks in the next four rounds, FPL managers are understandably looking to move on their Chelsea assets right now, rather than invest further.

Realistically, the next time we’ll be looking at Thomas Tuchel’s troops is in March, when they face off against Burnley (a) and Newcastle United (h), before a visit to France for the second-leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Lille.

Notably, the Blues have two fixtures to be rescheduled – Arsenal (h) and Leicester City (h) – though given the volume of competitions they are still involved in, we may have to wait a while longer before we see them added.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 16?
  • Friday 4 February: FA Cup fourth round – Middlesbrough (h)
  • Tuesday 8 February: Gameweek 24 – Burnley (a)
  • Saturday 12 February: Double Gameweek 25 – Southampton (h)
  • Tuesday 15 February: Double Gameweek 25 – Brighton and Hove Albion (h)
  • Sunday 20 February: Gameweek 26 – Leeds United (a)
  • Wednesday 23 February: Champions League last 16 – Atletico Madrid (a)
  • Saturday 26 February: Gameweek 27 – Watford (h)
  • Wednesday 2 March: FA Cup fifth round
  • Sunday 6 March: Gameweek 28 – Manchester City (a)
  • Saturday 12 March: Gameweek 29 – Tottenham Hotspur (h)
  • Tuesday 15 March: Champions League last 16 – Atletico Madrid (h)
  • Sunday 20 March: Gameweek 30 – Liverpool (a) *

* possible blank due to clash with FA Cup quarter-finals

Following Wednesday’s announcement that United will play twice in Double Gameweek 25, Ralf Rangnick’s side now have the busiest February schedule of all, with seven matches to contest in all competitions.

As a result, Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) may be at risk of some rotation, with their vital Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid sandwiched between Premier League clashes against Leeds United (a) and Watford (h). Prior to that, in Double Gameweek 25, a Saturday/Tuesday turnaround also looks quite tight, so we could feasibly see Edinson Cavani (£8.4m) get a run out in one of those matches.

Elsewhere, there could be rotation in the full-back positions, whilst Mason Greenwood (£7.2m), Marcus Rashford (£9.4m), Jadon Sancho (£8.8m) and Anthony Elanga (£4.8m) are all potential starters on the wing.

Given the importance of their Premier League clashes in March, it’s also difficult to see Rangnick approaching those matches with minute management in mind, suggesting a bit of rotation in February could be on the cards.

WEST HAM UNITED

Antonio the most-sold FPL player of Gameweek 13 as budget defender Ait-Nouri impresses 1
  • Saturday 5 February: FA Cup fourth round – Kidderminster Harriers (a)
  • Tuesday 8 February: Gameweek 24 – Watford (h)
  • Sunday 13 February: Gameweek 25 – Leicester City (a)
  • Saturday 19 February: Gameweek 26 – Newcastle United (h)
  • Sunday 27 February: Gameweek 27 – Wolverhampton Wanderers (h)
  • Wednesday 2 March: FA Cup fifth round
  • Saturday 5 March: Gameweek 28 – Liverpool (a)
  • Thursday 10 March: Europa League last 16
  • Sunday 13 March: Gameweek 29 – Aston Villa (h)
  • Thursday 17 March: Europa League last 16
  • Sunday 20 March: Gameweek 30 – Tottenham Hotspur (a) *

* possible blank due to clash with FA Cup quarter-finals

Whilst the majority of West Ham United’s squad will be resting up during the winter break, Michail Antonio (£7.9m) is off representing Jamaica on international duty, which is a bit of a concern for his owners. Notably, the 42.3% owned forward already looked a bit ‘leggy’ heading into this period, something David Moyes touched on after the recent defeat against Leeds United.

However, as a result of finishing top of their Europa League group, the February fixture list has been kind, with only one midweek game in the schedule. Furthermore, they don’t have any additional fixtures to be slotted in, either.

March may well be the point to hop off their assets, however, with Premier League fixtures against Liverpool (a), Aston Villa (h) and Tottenham Hotspur (a), alongside two Europa League last 16 ties and a potential FA Cup fifth round clash.

LEICESTER CITY

Brighton and Leicester differentials to consider for Double Gameweek 22 3
  • Sunday 6 February: FA Cup fourth round – Nottingham Forest (a)
  • Thursday 10 February: Gameweek 24 – Liverpool (a)
  • Sunday 13 February: Gameweek 25 – West Ham United (h)
  • Thursday 17 February: Europa Conference League play-offs – Randers (h)
  • Sunday 20 February: Gameweek 26 – Wolverhampton Wanderers (a)
  • Thursday 24 February: Europa Conference League play-offs – Randers (a)
  • Wednesday 2 March: FA Cup fifth round
  • Saturday 5 March: Gameweek 28 – Leeds United (h)
  • Thursday 10 March: Europa Conference League last 16
  • Sunday 13 March: Gameweek 29 – Arsenal (a)
  • Thursday 17 March: Europa Conference League last 16
  • Saturday 19 March: Gameweek 30 – Brentford (h) *

* possible blank due to clash with FA Cup quarter-finals

Despite four games that need rescheduling – Norwich City (h), Everton (a), Burnley (a) and Chelsea (a) – it’s going to be a while before we see any Foxes Double Gameweeks, if they progress in both domestic and European cup competition, that is.

They are also currently due to blank in Gameweek 27, though if they lose to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fourth round, they could feasibly see a fixture dropped into the following midweek.

Despite Jamie Vardy (£10.3m) being out until March, the above schedule suggests we’ll still see plenty of rotation in the attacking positions, with Patson Daka (£7.1m) and Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.9m) both perhaps seeing starts at centre-forward.

Pretty template as wild cards go, so good if not looking to catch up. Are you worried that possible Luiz signing ight affect Jota prospects for possible DGW26?

I might be worried about it if it goes through swiftly but whilst nothing is confirmed I won’t dwell on it

If that doesn’t happen I might punt on a mahrez type or put Robbo in some how

It’s template but doesn’t feel like loads of better options and Ramsey, digne, eduard are all below 10% ownership so a couple of differentials in there I suppose

Not so much Jota in isolation as you can get rid with FT, but if he looks less likely to play a possible DGW26, TAA + Robbo might be better, which requires a it different distribution of funds

Not sure this is the right time to sell Raph or Foden they have good fixtures and Leeds have doubles to come. Watkins not doing much either and will be rotated with Ings. Ronaldo is a good placeholder for Kane in GW26 also if Spurs have a double.

If he’s confirmed to play I’d probably do A but having Ronaldo and Bruno for the double could also be a strong differential so it depends on your appetite for risk

You could also consider Ronaldo > Watkins and getting one of your kids up to salah?

      1. Karan_G14
        • 9 Years

I think all my mids are good medium to long term options.
Jota could have a double in GW26 has good fixtures and insane value.
Foden play F9 for City and they have good fixtures.
Raphinha on all set peices, pens and good fixtures with doubles to come.
Bowen is obviously an easy hold.

Plus the budget strikers not doing much and if Spurs get a double soon Kane will be needed.

GOing to be tough, but then again season coming to an end and he has done the hard work so if he plays conservatively he should still be able to get a very good rank. I would kill to be in his position. Points on the board.

Don't think you should wait much longer but having said that I'll would wait until end of this winter break to see if other doubles are confirmed.

Also disagree with Christina, considering the chips you've got left and number of weeks still to play 120 points gap is doable.

Yeah you can make that up mate, trigger earlier than later though - you'll need to catch the ML leader off guard and also need some luck to go your way but with the way the fixtures are lining up, I'd go for it.

Been trolled by Ronaldo last few GWs, while Bruno stole the thunder. No feeling confident he plays both, but otoh thinking I'll just have to keep now and hope Bruno stays quiet. Also need Salah in either GW24 or 25 - will probably FH in BGW27 anyway. THen ther's the slightly differential KDB alternative - he surely will haul in one of next two GWs. Team is

    DDG Sanchez
    TAA Cancelo Laporte Emerson Keane
    Bowen Maddison Jota Gray Ramsey
    Ronaldo Dennis Antonio

    Alternatives I', looking at are

    A) Maddison + Antonio -> Salah + Broja -4pts
    B) Maddison + Keane -> KDB + Amartey (get Salah for GW26)
    C) Save FT, next GW do Ronaldo +Jota + Gray > Bruno + Salah + Maupay -4pts
    D) other ideas

Also, having a shocker of a season , I'd need to take a punt or two in a desperate attempt to gain OR. Any ideas, thinking of likes of Greenwood , Elanga

    Current team:-
    1 FT, 1.3 ITB

    DdG - Ramsdale
    Dias - TAA - Cancelo - Digne - Tomiyasu
    Bruno - Jota - Bowen - Maddison - Moura
    Antonio - Watkins - King

Plan A) Jota + Antonio + Moura out in GW 25 for Salah + Broja + Ramsay for a -4. Means I can coast through 27 without FH and most likely 30 as well. In this period looking at 2 or max 3 hits but difficult to get onto City or Spurs attackers without additional hits.

Plan B) Jota + Antonio out in GW 25 for Ronaldo + Ramsay for no hit and GW 26 Maddison + Fernandes out for Salah + 5.4(Martinelli) for a -4. Again enables to get through GW 27 and possibly GW 30 without using FH and allows attacking the doubles with Bruno, DdG and CR7. The issue is no Salah for 25 versus Burnley which could be a big haul and almost zero flexibility in terms of injuries and bringing in any bandwagons upto GW 30 as every week from GW 25 - GW 28 you are booking in 2 transfers + any other injuries.

Leaning towards plan A and as it is have lot's of time to decide cause both plans need me to save FT in GW 24.

Plan C) The original plan before the DGW announcement was to bring in Salah and (C) for GW 24 for Bruno. Still may do this if Egypt loses in quarters.

Could see a fit DCL at Arsenal for example. ASM might find a role, at a stretch. Gallagher for sure, if you consider him an "attacker". Broja and Ramsey might develop that direction.

Yeah DCL or Watkins will be an upgrade to Laca.

ASM has all the talent but needs to improve end product

Didn't mention Gallagher and Broja as they are on loan from chelsea.

Little early to have a say on Ramsey. Need a season atleast to judge his ability. I do think McGinn can slot into a top side. Certainly rate him over likes of Fred Partey Winks. Can chip in with attacking returns

    TAA Cancelo Alonso Lowton Johnson
    KDB Jota Raph Bowen Gray
    Antonio Dennis Pedro

I think I'm decided on having KDB and Bruno for GW24 and 25. Then move to Son and Salah.

Question is, which looks best out of these?
    A) Alonso, Gray to Ait-Nouri, Bruno
    B) Alonso, Raph to Digne, Bruno

B, not ideal losing Raph but Everton may get new manager bounce and some decent games upcoming. I like the Villa fixtures / Digne pick too.

I could field 3 United + 2 Brighton for DGW25 with -8 and not alter team structure

Please select the best 2 Brighton moves out of the below

    A Dennis to Maupay
B Gray to Trossard (if A is chosen, then Macalister due to budget)
    C Dawson to Cucurela

Do you want a third of your squad to be from those two teams from GW26 onwards? I wouldn't focus so much on it, it's not the best DGW for either team and there will be others. Triple MU seems like overkill to me for a team in pretty poor form.

I feel like this is a DGW trap. I honestly focus on 3x city against Norwich than Man U's double other than perhaps DDG.

That's just me though. Escaped the last DGW trap with KDB captain

So you think that getting Man U players with a DGW of two very decent fixtures is a trap, but getting 3 City rotation risks for a single game isn't?

Well done on 'escaping' Bruno's 42pt haul in the last DGW 😉

Well it wasn't unreasonable to assume he was talking about GW22 (particularly Ronaldo), as he was referring to Man U, plus KDB hauled in GW22 and could easily be outscored by King this week.. Also, the Dennis was unlucky, not a trap. Just one of those things that can't be predicted.

Sorry, my comment was a bit generic and the DGW I was referring to was Watford. In the past, generally, DGW-at least for me-have been traps.

Man U haven't been great, I think Bruno's only decent return's the whole season were those two games and the first game of the season. Their defence has been iffy too (I have Dalot btw) In Man City's last 3 games against Norwich they've scored 12 goals lol and City are in better form. I say KDB against Norwich is better than a DGW Bruno at the moment.

Hey, I could be wrong, hopefully not as I don't have Bruno. Rashford is back so could be the form they've been expected to have all season.

Another great and informative article from FFS even if it ultimately makes me feel a bit depressed about my team with the likes of Antonio, Dias Jota etc

I don’t think trying to predict lineups is going to do you any favours in February, best to just bring a thick bench and try not to overreact when benchings happen, and they will, to expensive players and (c) options too.

Guess Arsenal assets are a workaround but then they have blanks. Going to be big gains to be made even before doubles kick in heavy but luck will be a factor.

Reckon its worth a hit to swap Jota and Foden or Maddison > Salah and Gallagher/Ramsey?..... Don't know if Foden will start, was going to get double city defence.

If Foden doesn't start against Brentford, he'll start against Norwich. For that reason I'm keeping. If starts vs Brentford, then I can switch him to Bruno for the DGW

      DDG - Ramsdale
      TAA - Cancelo - Alonso - Cash - Livra
      KDB - Jota - Bowen - Raphinha - Gray
      Kane - Antonio - Broja

Original plan was to sell Kane to fund Salah when back, but with Egypt doing well in the cup I might keep Kane (SOU) next week as I think he will explode soon. However if Egypt loses and Salah is ready for gw24 I might have to rush him in, what do you guys think?

One thing that I'm not sure has been mentioned in the Salah discussion is that he has a pretty rubbish record vs Burnley (something like 1 goal in 8). So if there's any doubt about his start vs Leicester, maybe it's worth holding off a week or two if it's going to take major surgery or the sacrifice of DGW players to get him back immediately?

I don’t really buy into those sort of records 100% but I do agree that If he misses Leicester I will be inclined to go kdb instead on wc as a place holder

Not worth losing any sleep until 30th as if Egypt lose to Morocco it’ll be irrelevant as hell certainly be back

Hmm if it was Liverpools record vs Burnley then I agree I don't buy into it much.

However in this situation it is the same Liverpool player, playing same position, with same manager and tactics vs same Burnley players, same manager and tactics.

So maybe there is something in it.

My bet is Morocco, not because i want Salah back, but because Morocco does not suit Egypt well, as they play more conservative and tight than for example Ivory Coast. Egypt often struggle vs more defensive and structurally well drilled teams and Morocco is that plus they have some very quality players that can hurt Egypt. In the end, first goal will be very decisive.

Still cant believe my favorite player will come to the PL. Homegrown in Atletico Junior (my hometown club). Amazing player, fast, dribbles, great decision making, composure, clinical finishing and long shots. Dont expect him to make an immediate impact but Klopps style suits him best. Once he is settled, he will become a top player in Liverpool. Great signing

Whats the issue? Start with KdB + Bruno. Swap to Son and Salah after 25.
You cant have all of them and you will have Taa and Cancelo in any case on a wc 24.

        1. Free Hat
          • 7 Years

The issue is besides them Id probably go for a Laporte/Robbo perhaps Dalot combination on BB week after. But lots of them could miss out on rotation.
Like I said, WC isnt the issue, BB is with the uncertainty of which player starts...
And I prefer to WC if I can BB week after.

Dont understand the Bruno love since we already know he's playing deeper as No 8, has no pens, not on all FKs/corners and gets all his returns when Ronaldo is not on the pitch.

Not over GW23 though. The double blank from Bruno & Ronaldo is killing me.

I'm starting to come around to Alonso > Dalot as my 3rd United player to bring in.

Also opens the very maverick Bernardo > Mahrez and try to steal some points over the next few good fixtures.

Don't you think that Mahrez will continue to be Peps go to CL player and rest most of the PL matches around CL?

I'm probably not gonna do it. But it's an option. Will probably cave and buy Salah back immediately plus (c).
