We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points of the day in FPL Daily, a weekday series that serves non-Premier League matchdays and days when we don’t bring you a team news/press conference round-up.

MAN UTD V BRIGHTON: DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 25 TEAM NEWS

There weren’t any fresh fitness concerns reported by either Ralf Rangnick or Graham Potter ahead of the final match of Double Gameweek 25 on Tuesday.

Edinson Cavani (£8.4m) won’t recover from a groin injury in time to face the Seagulls, which may bode well for Cristiano Ronaldo‘s (£12.5m) prospects of being handed successive starts in the league.

“Fred will be available again. He’ll also be part of the group for tomorrow. Edinson is still out, the same with Nema [Matic]. The rest is, well, Alex [Telles] is back again in the squad and already was part of the group for the Southampton game and he will also be available.” – Ralf Rangnick

Potter has the same squad available to him as he did on Saturday, with no-one returning and Lewis Dunk‘s (£4.8m) knee strapping not a hindrance to him playing.

“We will be as we were ahead of the Watford game. Enock Mwepu isn’t far away from being available. Jeremy Sarmiento’s rehab is going well so he’s getting closer. Lewis Dunk has been fine, he has trained well and recovered well. He’s in a good place.” – Graham Potter

GREALISH OUT

Jack Grealish (£7.5m) won’t shake off a recurring shin injury in time to face Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday night, although his manager said he was “better” when facing the media on Monday.

“He is better, but for tomorrow he is not available alongside Cole Palmer and Gabriel [Jesus].” – Pep Guardiola

That prognosis could mean anything in Pep-speak and should Grealish and Gabriel Jesus (£8.5m) again miss out in Gameweek 26, the competition for places in the attacking trident is much less fierce and potentially bodes well for Phil Foden (£8.0m) et al against Spurs.

TRIPPIER FRACTURES FOOT

No sooner had the returning Kieran Trippier (£5.0m) made his mark on FPL again than he is sidelined for weeks, potentially months after fracturing the fifth metatarsal bone in his foot.

The defender had registered two goals, one clean sheet and 27 points in four matches for Newcastle but limped out of the match against Aston Villa on Saturday.

“Trippier underwent an X-ray immediately after the game and scans have shown a fracture to the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot. Everyone at the club wishes Kieran a speedy recovery.” – Newcastle club statement

Likely deputy Javier Manquillo (£3.9m) would have been one for the watchlist for the run-in but he too sustained an ankle ligament injury in Gameweek 25 and assessment is ongoing on him.

The FH’s don’t expire, they can be used at any point in the season. The only rule is you can’t use them in consecutive gameweeks.

Only if Southampton lose to West Ham in the cup.

If FH in 27, then Ramsdale and Sa are better options as they have a guaranteed game in 30, play for better teams than Burnley and they have better fixtures going forward

I wouldn't go without Cancelo, maybe Bowen, need to take chances now to gain rank.

      Unwise

    3. Tonyawesome69
      • 7 Years

You need to differentiate your FH team and maximise on the chip and imo means going against non FH teams that will have Cancelo and Bowen with doublers

      1. Bikerz
        • 4 Years
        4 years, 5 months ago

        Aye, very true. Thanks

      2. _Make
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 5 months ago

This is true to an extent, but I think that's part of the decision-making process as to whether to play the chip, not once it's been activated. It sounds like a minor distinction but for me it's an important one.

The aim is to maximise points, which means that if you choose not to go for the most in-form players with good fixtures you better have a sixth sense that you know for some reason that they won't do anything. Betting against them without this knowledge means you are more than likely to lose doubly: firstly, if you punt for differentials against template players just because they're differentials and, by taking that risk, you (likely) lose points; and secondly because you will have used a valuable chip to pick players who will (likely) underperform against the template.

This is why if you find yourself playing a FH but you put more than [a certain number of, team-dependent] template players, it was probably not worth activating it in the first place.

        1. _Make
          • 9 Years
          4 years, 5 months ago

Further to this, I think it also depends on the price of the template player(s) you are avoiding.

With the amount of single-week variance in the game, it's much better to punt against someone like Salah, so you can redistribute the funds and get a team configuration that only a free-hitter could realistically put out, than the likes of Cancelo and Bowen who are frankly FPL gifts at their price points (albeit Cancelo is a 'premium' defender).

Agreed. Game is one of playing risks to win. Play safe and you will just stay still.

    4. Arteta
      • 10 Years
      4 years, 5 months ago

If I was on free hit, I'd definitely take some similar risks. Even though they're great players, they can still blank. Tottenham can score and Newcastle improved defensively. I understand the logic behind. It could backfire and end in tears but you can say that about most transfers to be fair.

      1. Bikerz
        • 4 Years

If it backfires, the rank drop could be devastating! Oh Fpl..

I would definitely take risks and go without Bowen and Cancelo.

I can get to this team with a -4 and it will probably challenge most FH teams. So to get ahead, take risks on some DGW players that no one will touch like Saiss and Zaha.

      Ramsdale
      TAA Cancelo Emerson
      Salah Jota Bowen Odegaard
      Kane Laca King

See! The hit(s) right there is another reason I think the free hit in DGW 26 is very valid cuz a lot of teams will take hits to field doublers. Nice team you've got there

Sanchez, Cucurella (vc), Fernandes (c). What's the best for me?

I kind of want BHA to concede. Purely for the fact that if they don't, I really bottled it with a late transfer and captaincy switch.

I'd be over the moon with penalty save (Ronaldo miss), assist, goal & assist. A man can dream!

Yeah. He is first choice and I think City have injuries in the front 3 in Grealish and Jesus. Also the 2nd leg of the UCL isn't next week.

For those with Bowen, play or bench him for a dgw player like Raphinha?

Dont leave a DGW player on bench, unless its spurs defender.

I honestly think Raphinha can get a return against man utd. The Liverpool game is just a bonus ify if I guess

With Chelsea's fixtures turning for the better in GW28, what Chelsea assets should we be looking at?

I've got my eyes on Mason Mount and maybe lukaku if he gets into a semblance of good form. Wing backs or Rudiger for sure

James & Mount but neither fit atm. Mount went off with a knock in CWC final; heard James would be ready but he didnt play

Who would you rate as the best option for DGW26, maybe even with GW28 in mind as most FH GW27 anyway?

    1. Jimenez
    2. Laca
    3. Kane
    4. Saka

    2) ESR or Odegaard
    3) Jimi or Laca

Mahrez + Emerson Royal > Saka + Tierney -8 is worth it right?

    I'm gonna FH in 27.

I would, and there are rumblings on Twitter about a possible Arsenal DGW28, which would make these moves even better.

I think taking any number of hits this GW even for Salah TCaptainers puts them at a disadvantage vs free hitters for example

Yeah, pretty confident those 2 will earn it back & then some over 26-30
