We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points of the day in FPL Daily, a weekday series that serves non-Premier League matchdays and days when we don’t bring you a team news/press conference round-up.

JOTA/FIRMINO INJURY LATEST

Diogo Jota (£8.4m) and Roberto Firmino (£8.7m) look set to miss out on Liverpool’s second Double Gameweek 26 fixture on Wednesday, as they remain a doubt for the weekend’s EFL Cup final against Chelsea.

The forwards sustained muscle and ankle issues respectively at Inter Milan last week and missed the 3-1 win over Norwich City.

“Yes, it’s too early [to know about Sunday]. I don’t even know if it will be a late decision or not; how I said, it’s too early. I saw them both today, they both look great – but those two always look great. We have to see how the specific issues develop but we obviously will try everything.” – Jurgen Klopp on Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m), Andrew Robertson (£7.2m), Sadio Mane (£11.7m), Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) and Virgil van Dijk (£6.7m), among others, were all spotted in training ground images released by the Reds on Monday so look set to return to the fray against Leeds.

Klopp confirmed on Saturday that Alexander-Arnold was only rested for the victory over the Canaries.

Neither Jota nor Firmino were spotted in those pictures from Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre.

WEGHORST AND CORNET “SHOULD” BE FIT

Wout Weghorst (£6.5m) and Maxwel Cornet (£5.9m) both picked up knocks on Saturday, the former being pictured with an ice pack on his knee after the game, but look set to recover in time to face Tottenham Hotspur in Burnley’s second Gameweek 26 fixture.

“Them two should be fine [for the Spurs game].” – Sean Dyche on Wout Weghorst and Maxwel Cornet

Dyche told reporters on Monday that the Clarets are still waiting on negative Covid tests for James Tarkowski (£4.9m) and Ashley Westwood (£5.3m), both of whom missed the victory over Brighton.

Charlie Taylor (£4.4m) could be back for Gameweek 27 after rejoining training but Matej Vydra (£5.2m) and Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.4m) remain out.

NO INJURY CONCERNS FOR DENNIS

Emmanuel Dennis (£6.1m) walked gingerly from the field of play in Saturday’s win over Aston Villa but there doesn’t seem to have been any injury picked up by the Nigerian, if we are to take the Watford website’s word for it.

In their pre-match medical bulletin, Watford said that they have “emerged with no fresh injury concerns” from the victory at Villa Park – so Dennis is presumably fit after his late substitution.

João Pedro (£5.4m) and Juraj Kucka (£5.5m) will have their fitness assessed ahead of Wednesday’s game, while Samir (£4.5m) was given the all-clear by Roy Hodgson.

“[Samir] is a tough boy. He was fine. He was fine yesterday so he’s trained with us today. It was a knock which luckily didn’t produce any threat of concussion. For me, I think it was one of those knocks which, at the end of a tough game, he probably felt a bit more. Luckily by Sunday morning, he was a lot better and even better still today.”

“With [Pedro and Kucka] their injuries were such that they are still being monitored. Both have made incredibly good progress, much quicker than we expected. But we’ll still have to wait until tomorrow to see if Wednesday is a game too soon, or whether they can make it.” – Roy Hodgson

ERIKSEN ON THE BLANK GAMEWEEK 30 WATCHLIST?

Christian Eriksen (£5.5m) looks set to be involved for Brentford against Newcastle United in some capacity this weekend after he further built up his match fitness with a 78-minute run-out for the Bees in a friendly with Rangers on Monday.

As if to prove that class is permanent, the Dane assisted both of Brentford’s goals from set plays in the behind-closed-doors match – one of which was scored by Zanka (£4.5m), who is also back from a long-term absence.

The west London club are one of just six teams (so far) whose Gameweek 30 fixtures haven’t been affected by the clash with the FA Cup quarter-finals, so the budget midfielder is one to watch for those planning to Free Hit or bring in a short-term punt on that weekend.

MOUNT VERY LIKELY FIT FOR GAMEWEEK 28

Chelsea’s positive fixture swing begins in Gameweek 28, although their appeal is fairly short-lived given that they very likely blank in Gameweek 30.

Mason Mount (£7.5m) missed out on Chelsea’s win over Crystal Palace on Saturday but he, along with Cesar Azpilicueta (£5.6m), are in contention to make the squad for the Blues’ UEFA Champions League tie against Lille on Tuesday evening.

There’s still no Reece James (£6.2m), however, although he is expected to step up his involvement in full training over the coming fortnight.

“Mason did a very good individual session, I think he will try and come back to team training today. He was out a little bit too long to start but perhaps he is involved in the squad. He has not trained with the team yet.

“Azpi looks much better than Callum. Callum did not train yesterday, Azpi trained and has no reaction – if it stays like this, he is available for tomorrow. Reece [James] is still out, Chilly out.” – Thomas Tuchel

Mee for DGW27 to minimize rotation risk. Remember TAA and Robbo on DGW26 vs. VVD.

Would you use one FH over this team achievable with a -4:
    DDG
    Cancelo Livra Mee
    Bruno Bowen Raph
    Broja Edouard Weghorst

      FH 27 & likely FH33.

      Current numbers

      28 9DGW players
      29 9DGW players
30 currently have 8 players for it

    Ugh, bottomed.

So, whats the opinions on a Wolves double/triple up on their defence for a FH28?

    Bold or crazy?

Palace and Watford at home I believe.

Considering a bold triple up + captain in the bid for a nice 48 pt swing.

FH28 why not because they are so cheap it enables budget elsewhere.

Who are your FH28 forward options? Broja, ASM and Jimenez is what I had in mind initially, but triple Wolves def opens up the Jimenez slot.

Think I was gonna stick on Kane, Broja, ASM

There's a few of my SGW that I wouldn't wanna drop.

        What you reckon?

Kane is a good SGW choice if you have the budget for him. Lacazette plays vs Watford, Lukaku vs Burnley and Vardy could be back to fitness vs Leeds for 28 as well.

Risky strategy. 2 max. Dennis is dangerous again and Sarr is back. So I wouldn't.

I made a FH28 and it was rather strange looking:

      Sa
      Saiss Coady Livra Salisu
      Salah Coutinho Raphinha James
      Broja Kane

Something weird like this. It's partly why I decided to move away from FH28 plan. It just doesn't work that well. I'd be removing a bunch of Arsenal players who play Watford and buying Southampton and Wolves defenders.

Just didn't feel quite right to me. And if Arsenal double vs Chelsea I already have 3 Arsenal in place.

        Check this though;

        Sa
        Saiss - Coady - Tierney - TAA
        Salah - Son - Coutinho - Raphinha
        Kane - Broja

        If Arsenal DGW then;

        - Saka instead of Raphinha
        - Maybe a third Arsenal player in

Is that really worth it? You have 4 SGW players. I just don't see it as being optimal.

Think there's always the case that there will be two SGWs, (Salah, TAA).

Just depends if it can be justified having Kane and Son.

Coutinho was missed off the above, then you're just one short.

              Saiss - Coady - Tierney
              Salah - Saka - Coutinho - Raphinha - JWP

I can field 11 but that includes Reguilon (flagged) and Edouard (didn't play last match). Will at least one of them play in your opinion?

I probably will do a -4 Reguilon --> Mee if he's still flagged near the deadline - seems the best Burnley defender choice?

Reguilon to Mee for -4, yes.

Edouard to Weghorst for -4, maybe. I don't really fancy either Edouard or Weghorst long term, so going Edouard to Broja/Jimenez "early" with their DGW28 in mind is an option.

Yes, he is the one who has to go. Just hate the fact that it means -8 next week. Navigating these blanks and doubles with hits is risky business, -16 for ongoing dgw and at least -12 during next two. Well... I have made my bed.

"But how do I get Coutinho in?"

Upgrade Ramsey to end up with 8 non fodder forwards or sell Bowen/Saka "sideways".

I just saw video where Luke was interviewed. He has good record of 2nd guessing Pep. That forward line is pretty likelyto start, Foden's minutes are biggest issue. I personally can't decide between Mahrez and Sterling. But even though money actually doesn't matter at all, it's between them.

It's easier to pick Manchester City player this season rather than years ago, right?
So called Pep roulette is not that hard to guess anymore.

The main squad number is lesser,
Fringe player like zinchenko not even stepping up.
    Fernandinho being phased out.
Garcia, Mendy, Aguero, Torres out then no one really come in

    Evening everyone,

    DDG
    Digne Keane Coady Cancelo
    Salah Son Bowen Bernardo
    Kane Dennis Weghorst

    Foster Salah White Gray

Even though I have 2 FH’s don’t think I need to do use FH this week. Thinking the simple move is Keane to Livramento/ Bednarek or Kilman/ Semedo?

    Chip Strategy:
    GW30 - FH
    GW33 - FH
    GW35 - WC
    GW36 - BB

Good strategy seeing as you have Spurs, City, Weghorst etc already. I'd get Mee in for Keane this week.

Was going to go Dennis to A.N. Other, but in the end I've decided that Hojbjerg to JWP is a better option. I can then look at a different 3rd Spur for later weeks. The question now is Wout or Son as Captain.

    1. The Mighty Hippo

I think the captain pick is a really tricky one this week. From the two options you've listed I'd tend to go with Weghorst.

He does look great doesn't he... if Leeds announce more defensive injuries that might swing it. I've the bones of a week to decide anyway. Will make my move for price reasons though...

Moving out Salah for Son seems wrong.
That’s 2 FTs if you want Salah back.

1.2m short of doing Jota > Son.
Could move Bowen on for a 5.6mf instead.

Or forget about Son and just get JWP.

I wouldn’t say he’s a must have this GW. The 2 transfers is worth 8 points, will he gain this on top of what a FT elsewhere could gain?

The trick is to keep Son afterwards and upgrade City mid to Salah instead before Salah DGW29.

If you have Bruno, then Bruno to Salah should be a no-brainer.

My point was, Salah to Son back to Salah again "seems wrong" because you probably want to keep both Son + Salah long term.

Yeh. My original plan was bench Salah and do Bruno > Son this week but Bruno has come to life and warrants the game against Watford.
Waiting on Son one week would save 2 FT’s but miss out on the Leeds game.
Think I’m swaying towards Salah > Son, Bruno > Salah.

Best defender (excluding Manchester City) to buy for 27, 28 and 29?

    A. Digne
    B. Livramento
    C. Coady / Saiss
    D. Manquillo
    E. Robertson / VVD
    F. Someone else.

Thinking Robertson, but can he get more points in 2 matches vs the 4 matches for some of the others?

    2. Karhumies
      • 13 Years
      4 years, 1 month ago

      F. Bednarek IMO. Livramento uncertain to start all matches.

Newcastle gets 5 matches in that time frame, but Dubravka at 4.4 still seems like a better pick than their defenders. Manquillo red flagged for injury, might want to pick someone else.

      1. banskt
        • 12 Years
        4 years, 1 month ago

Bednarek is a great suggestion. Thanks, didn't Livramento is uncertain to start all matches. Will have to look into it.

Of those 5 matches of Newcastle, 4 are away matches which makes me think AVL, WOL or SOU will do better defensively over 27, 28 and 29. Manquillo is currently red flagged, but was hoping he will be ready in time for 27 and he will have to start those games because Trippier is injured long term. But, will keep an eye out for the injury update of Manquillo.

For DGW/fixture congestion, CB is more likely to start all matches than LB/RB. Take VVD vs. Robbo/TAA in DGW26 as an example. In SGW, you want LWB/RWB for attacking points potential, but all the running that requires could turn a DGW into SGW for said player.

Thanks, advice I've received suggests James return will negatively impact Ziyech but if he continues in this form I'll pick him over Mount.

Coutinho capable of bigger scores and like Broja up top.

If I have funds for Bed I may upgrade to him but something tells me Liv will get plenty of minutes.

Played my FH this week and good thing that I did cause team is not in so good shape. Now back to GW27...would you WC now or do some -4 to field 11 and then WC GW28?

    DDG 3.9
    TAA Cancelo Mings Sanchez Tierney
KdB Jota Bowen Martinelli D. Luiz
    CR7 Antonio Edouard

    Cheers.
