We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points of the day in FPL Daily, a weekday series that serves non-Premier League matchdays and days when we don’t bring you a team news/press conference round-up.

NO FIRMINO OR JOTA AGAINST LEEDS

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed there is “no chance” Roberto Firmino (£8.7m) and Diogo Jota (£8.4m) will be fit for Wednesday’s Double Gameweek 26 clash against Leeds United. The duo missed Saturday’s 3-1 win over Norwich City with muscle and ankle injuries respectively, and will now be monitored ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

“For tomorrow no chance and for the final we will see. I don’t know at the moment. It will be easier for me to say no now but they are pushing. They’re not on the pitch for training which is not a good sign. We have to see what we can do with the boys in the next few days and then we’ll make a decision later in the week.” – Jurgen Klopp on Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota

KANE “HAS TO PLAY”

In Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, Antonio Conte revealed Harry Kane (£12.2m) is fit to face Burnley, despite suffering a knock on the back in the win at Manchester City on Saturday. He then went on to suggest he would play even if he had one leg, highlighting his importance.

“Harry had a hit on his back but he has to play. Even if he has one leg, he has to play. He is good. Harry knows his importance to the team.” – Antonio Conte on Harry Kane

Elsewhere, Oliver Skipp (£4.4m) and Japhet Tanganga (£4.2m) are still out, while Sergio Reguilon (£5.3m) remains a doubt.

“Skipp and Tanganga, they are recovering. They’re not ready, they’re still not ready for the game against Burnley. Sergio Reguilon, at yesterday’s training session, he wasn’t present but we’ll see today. I think the situation is the same as the last game but we hope Skipp, Tanganga, Sergio recover very soon because we need all of them.” – Antonio Conte

Conte then went on to discuss squad rotation, including the forward options now at his disposal.

“Sonny and Kane, I always say that we are talking about two players that are very good, at an important level. My expectation when you have these two players are higher than other players. I think Sonny played a bit but then had a serious injury and to lose him for one month and a half wasn’t good for us. Also, because when you recover you need a bit of time to be fit, to have good form. Now he’s fit, he’s an important player for us.

There’s a good connection between him and Harry but also don’t forget that Lucas Moura is an important player and now we have Dejan, Deki Kulusevski. He is young but he’s ready for this league. You have seen in a tough game that he can give us a lot this season. Then there is also Steven Bergwijn. He had a little problem before the game against Manchester City in his calf and now he has recovered. We have many games ahead and we will need all these players.” – Antonio Conte

BIELSA ON LEEDS’ DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCES

Leeds United will once again be without key trio Liam Cooper (£4.4m), Kalvin Phillips (£4.7m) and Patrick Bamford (£7.7m) at Anfield on Wednesday, plus Robin Koch (£4.3m), who suffered a blow to the head after a collision against Manchester United.

Marcelo Bielsa also touched on his team’s recent defensive performances, which has seen them concede 30 goals in their last 10 Premier League matches.

“I did not say the defence needed to improve, I said the defensive system needed to improve. The consistency the players in midfield offer allows us to strengthen the defensive system. The characteristics of the players in the midfield give it a more defensive or offensive profile. I said all of this to explain because we have conceded 50 goals, second most conceded in the league. I have to account for this because I am responsible.

I wanted to explain in the game against Manchester United we did not have Phillips, Koch or Pascal (Struijk). Three players who take on the role of defensive midfielder to solidify them. We don’t resolve that with bringing signings in. If not, we would have four players for that position. Imagine being able to count on all three for that position. It’s a privilege. At the same time, occasionally situations like this are presented. Strangely, the fourth player in that role is the best player of the team in the second half, Forshaw.

Analysing the last game, we created eight chances at goal and the opponent created eight chances at goal as well. They managed to score double the goals we did. When I analyse the defensive behaviour, I refer to the structure I generate. After you have to analyse why? What are the real reasons and how to avoid this from happening? That’s my function and when you have played these games and these goals the conclusions are clear.” Marcelo Bielsa

NO NEW INJURY CONCERNS FOR PALACE

Patrick Viera has provided a fresh injury update ahead of Crystal Palace’s visit to Watford on Wednesday, confirming full-backs Joel Ward (£4.5m) and Nathan Ferguson (£4.5m) remain out.

Notably, there was no mention of Vicente Guaita (£4.6m), who was withdrawn from action at half-time against Chelsea with a slight injury at the back of his knee. However, his manager did say the rest of his squad had been training, which is encouraging for his owners.

“We know that Nathan Ferguson and Joel Ward will not be part of the game tomorrow. The others all trained this morning.” – Patrick Vieira

Conor Gallagher (£6.2m), meanwhile, comes back into contention after missing Saturday’s game against parent club Chelsea.

CAVANI TO MISS ATLETICO TIE

Edinson Cavani (£8.4m) will be absent again for Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League last-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid. The Uruguayan forward has missed the last three games with a groin injury and also had a stomach problem prior to Sunday’s win at Leeds.

“Edinson (Cavani) will not be part of the group. He has not been training for the last couple of weeks. He has a problem with his groin. As long as he doesn’t feel able to sprint, it doesn’t make sense to push him.” – Ralf Rangnick

Would be incredibly reckless for Klopp to rest Salah when they’re only 6 points behind with a game in hand.

I don’t have great team value so am very thin on my FH. Worth risking a non existent bench for this team:

    Pope
    Cancelo Pieters Livramento
    Sterling Mahrez Fernandes Son
    Kane Weghorst Broja

    Okonkwo; Gilmour Amartey Tsimikas

    Current team for GW27 is:

    Foster
    Dalot, Cancelo, Bavies, Johnson*
    Bowen, Gallagher, Ramsey
    Kane, Dennis, Watkins

Could do 1 FT and get Johnson out, or use one of my 2 FH chips.

I feel like 1 FT may be enough, although If I do it’s a toss up between Watkins and Johnson who goes.

So do I FH or not?

If I WC27, it seems that I can get Salah + Son + 9 DGWs starting XI with Ramsdale (wat) Saka (wat) TAA (WHU) Cancelo (MUN) on the bench.

    Surely BB28?

Looks like a great GW28 for sure, but how is your team for GW27? No Burnley it seems. I don't mind it at all though I think running without Pope this GW could cost you.

      Cancelo
      Son

      (Ramsdale, Salah, Saka, TAA)

Yeah no BUR ... Salah in GW28 for a 27 placeholder either KDB/Bruno/Mahrez. No BUR is the downside. If you're ok for taking -4 then Weghorst [C] GW27 before Jimenez/ASM in for him.

        1. Salarrivederci
          • 9 Years
          4 years, 1 month ago

I think I would use Pope to do let's say Bruno -> Salah in GW28 (-4)

I think Pope will outscore whatever SGW keeper you got this GW by 4 points (or match it), and you'll have a more exciting GW. Might even stick the captaincy on him in 27?

So Pope -> Saints keeper + Bruno -> Salah (-4) for GW28 and BB?

On Free Hit... Is Mahrez over Bowen actually worth it?

Thinking it is more of a sword and shield thing and as so many non free hit teams will have Bowen it might be worth keeping and then being on the FH is the differential?

      • 9 Years

If on FH I think Mahrez is a damn strong pick.
I'd be more tempted to ditch Adams/Broja/JWP/Weghorst.

Bowen have Wolves who are quiet solid.

Possibly, still lots of unknown down the line. It's whether to attack 27-30 or defensive now attack later. The difference probably not that much. It may come down to the minor detail (read: luck 😛 ).

Not keen on a hit, could just go weghorst in for Watkins I guess. Villa have a double the week after though so might want Watkins back...seems silly to get rid then bring him back straight away. But then he hasn't exactly been smashing it.

There’s no need to FH (1 left) or WC this team is there? [Could do King -> Broja for a -4 and bench Brownhill]

    Cancelo, Livramento, Dawson
    Fernandes, Son, Foden, Bowen, Brownhill
    Jiminez, Weghorst
    Bench: King

Brownhill has the double so a base score of at least 3 (hopefully 4). So that means Broja would need to score 7/8 points to break even

I know what you mean. I benched Sissoko this gameweek and he looks set to get 5 points. Now he outscoring all my single gameweekers like Bowen, Antonio, Cancelo etc.
Maybe might be better to start Brownhill then.

Weg probably - mostly because I want to enjoy all of my players scoring and he's likely 100+%

May not be the most scientific but i like good vibes and wanting my players to do well. Hate it when I want them to fail.

Currently on Pope. This got me thinking Weg might have over 100% ownership if he the most popular pick.

Playing Real Madrid on their training pitch with a shite squad was not the same. Porto always get beaten and Atletico can be tough but are very one dimensional.

He’s just a bitter arsenal fan living in the past and who has forgotten how boring arsenal were when they were decent. Remember 1-0 to the arsenal and how they revelled in it. Arsenal fan who can’t accept that they’re a small club now with about as much future as their team have self discipline.

How does this sound for -8?

    Coufal, Saka, King ->
    Mee, Mahrez, Weghorst(C) =

    Guaita
    Cancelo Laporte Mee*
    Son Mahrez Bowen Cornet*
    Weghorst* Dennis Broja

    (Pickford Salah Trent Tierney)

Sounds tempting but it will be 8 off your score at start of GW which can often be hard to take if it’s a slow start

    DDG
    Cancelo Dawson Livramento Tarkowski
    Foden Bowen Son
    DCL Dennis King
    Foster Salah TAA Saka
1ft, King to Weghorst and save FH for a rainy day? Or also Salah to Sterling for a hit and get Salah back on WC next week?

    FH draft:

    Pope (Foster)
    Cancelo, Dalot, Pieters (Shar, Williams)
    Son, Sterling, Fernandes, Mahrez (Gilmour)
    Kane, Weghorst, Broja

    Thoughts would be really appreciated?

Especially thinking about getting Bowen back for one of the cities and beefing up defence - I'm not sure about Dalot. What do you people think?

I think attack and Pope Cancelo great - Dalot could be rotated again so keep an eye on game tomorrow and how he plays (assuming selected) and with Taylor back possible he could start at least one of Burnley’s games ahead of Pieters.

Should I just save me FT here? with
    .1 ITB
    1 FT
    1 FH
    1 TC

Could really use the info on BGW30 before shopping players for DGW28. Would like to avoid using the FH in 30 and in a later DGW instead.
Getting Pope would make me sell Jota (-4) or Coufal + Royal (-8), but I would most likely bring in JWP or cheap defenders who potentially blank in GW30 (Newcastle, Southampton, Burnley)

    Sanchez
    Cancelo - Varane - Coufal - E.Royal
    Pogba - Maddison - Bowen - Ramsey
    (K)ane - Ronaldo
    (Foster, King, TAA, Jota)

With only 8 players and 2FH & WC in hand, I'm pretty certain on playing that FH chip this week. Should I go ahead and pull the trigger to get my draft set, avoiding having to track prices. Or is there still risk involved, and better to wait until Friday before activating?

    1. RogDog_jimmy
      • 5 Years

only risk is you changing your mind.
though a few price changes have happened to the likely players so there may not be much value in doing it now vs later.
(son, weghorst, broja being the main ones)

Are people on FH getting Sancho over Bruno this week or alongside?
I know it's tough to fit so many midfielders in.
It's JWP over Broja for me so looking to play 352
