The seventh and final Premier League match of the day sees Manchester United play host to Leicester City.

Kick-off at Old Trafford is at 5.30pm.

Interest in this one is limited from a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) perspective, with only four players on show having an ‘effective ownership (EO)‘ of more than 1% in the top 10k:

Both sides are missing their (very) senior strikers tonight, with Edinson Cavani and Jamie Vardy absent as expected through injury and Cristiano Ronaldo a relatively late withdrawal due to illness.

“Unfortunately, he had some ‘flu-like symptoms, which he showed yesterday. Obviously, he should and would have played in the starting XI but he didn’t feel well and couldn’t train.

“Then the doctor went to see him at his house this morning to check again but he didn’t feel any better and that’s why, unfortunately, that’s why he hasn’t been able to play.

“We will play our normal formation that we always play, with Bruno as a striker at a times, but also maybe as a midfielder. Paul Pogba is one of the two offensive midfield players and this is how I have decided to play.” – Ralf Rangnick on Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo is one of three changes to Ralf Rangnick’s starting XI compared to the 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur three weeks ago.

Alex Telles and Nemanja Matic are benched, so in come Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay and Anthony Elanga.

As for the visitors, centre-backs Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana are back together in a Foxes starting line-up after long spells on the sidelines. Daniel Amartey and Caglar Soyuncu drop to the bench as a result.

James Maddison and Harvey Barnes both start, the latter having recovered from an ankle knock over the international break.

GAMEWEEK 31 LINE-UPS

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Dalot, Shaw, Maguire, Varane, Fred, McTominay, Pogba, Elanga, Sancho, Fernandes

Leicester City XI: Schmeichel, Justin, Fofana, Evans, Castagne, Mendy, Tielemans, Dewsbury-Hall, Maddison, Barnes, Iheanacho

Subs: Jakupovic, Soyuncu, Albrighton, Perez, Amartey, Choudhury, Pereira, Daka, Lookman.

From a FPL perspective, most managers OR fate depending on how Spurs do tomorrow.

As Kane, Son and Kulu owner I can only agree. I have been lucky with my Spurs attack, so wouldn't be surprised to see red arrow.

Well, according to Live FPL I’m ‘very differential’ this week for the first time this season. Son & Kane (C) tomorrow to make it worthwhile.

It's amazing how everyone thinks FH is for the upside, you can navigate the downside to better net effect.

People overthink it I think. Ultimately it’s just how many points your team scores vs how many your FH team scores.

I don't think you understand the FH chip in that case. 😆

The OP is broadly correct; there is a strategic benefit to the FH that is less easy to quantify but is nevertheless very real. And by strategic I mean what it enables you to do (or not do) before and after. The effect of a FH in a BGW (such as GW30) will usually be less in terms of the headline score that week than using it in a big DGW (GW33/36 maybe). But it prevents you from worrying about your BGW team for weeks in advance (and transferring players in accordingly) and from having to unwind from it afterwards.

Any use of the FH that doesn't utilise this strategic element is only gaining half the benefit of the chip really.

Maybe you do. Maybe you just copy other people. Who knows?

In this case, however, your comment was simplistic and wrong. 🙂

Takes some doing that to be fair.

In your opinion, as an aside, do you believe this game will be more difficult to play when there are five substitutes available to premiership clubs?

Thanks mate. I think the impact it’ll have is being overstated a little. I think the timing is a little unfortunate given the season forwards have had - I’d expect them to suffer most as options.

Think this is the gameweek that has finally broken me. Have been hovering around 100k thinking with a few shrewd moves I could kick up to top 20-50k - but so so much went wrong today and really for a while now.

No idea how I’ll play out the season but it’ll probably be super wildly. I hope this is liberating. End of last years was a lot of fear of holding onto a good rank.

    Punt time.

Unlucky mate, do you have many players left? I've done poorly today but still have 5 (plus Weg) left including Kane(C) so I'm not down in the dumps yet but I also wasn't dancing and singing when Salah blanked thinking it means anything yet.

Honestly I'm feeling a little punty myself and like moving Salah to KDB. Sounds like point chasing of course but Salah just hasn't been great since returning from AFCON (only 4g and 3 being pens) and I expect goals next week followed by some great City fixtures, he also seems to like the big games. Feels a bit wild but this is a game after all and they're supposed to be fun so I might do it.

Foden's lack of returns really is a mystery. His xGi stats have been amongst the top 3-4 players all season. He has started the last 9 games playing as a forward for one of the 2 best attacking teams in the league and returned just 2 goals, both of which were scruffy tap ins.

He obviously doesnt suit that role and probably further emphasises City's need for a quality striker and it could end up costing them the league.

Foden's best position is in a deeper role making runs into the box.

He’s City’s best option up top. His role as the false 9 is to drop deep and link play not score goals

I did Trent and coutinho to KDB and Cedric for this gameweek and haven’t regrettted it. Admittedly I have VVD as Liverpool defensive cover, but the above transfers mean that I’m very unlikely to get Trent back this season. Id say the moves are sound, if a bit risky, but made sense for me as am chasing. Now is the time to starts picking proper differentials, if chasing. Just make sure you’re happy not having Trent for rest of season (I think Laporte will be an able deputy with all those green fixtures City have coming up)

Liverpool fans just wondering how you think Klopp will approach the City game.

With only 1pt between them it could be cagey but I kind of feel that Liverpool need to go all out to win the game rather than settling for a point.

Looking at those fixtures I really dont see where City are going to drop points. Liverpool really need to win the game I feel.

How essential is KDB? I can afford Son > KDB but it won’t allow me to strengthen much elsewhere.

Would be able to fit him into my team alongside Salah, Kane, Reece J and Trent if I brought him in but would effectively weaken my bench for potential BB in 33

KdB has been historically good vs Burnley. After checking fixtures you realise that you definitely don't want KdB for next week. So no need to worry about it yet. Keep your eyes open though. If I downgrade Son, it has to be for very big upside. There are decent budget enablers, but they are worth it only if they have good dgw:s (Fraser?) Spurs concede more than MCI, so perhaps they need to score more also. I believe Son alone to be about as good option as KdB atm.

Nice to finally get a decent score from Watkins. Albeit a very lucky 9 pointer from a dodgy penalty. Somehow takes him up to 7th in the forwards points table despite a very average season. Here's hoping my patience with him will be rewarded over the coming weeks with some nice doubles to come too.

      Had him since gw18 for
      - 3 no-shows
      - 2x 1 pointers
      - 7x 2 pointers
      - 2x 5 pointers

Sold him this week to fund Reece James & Sancho

In every Youtube video all those magic influencers have been saying last week that they haven't seen a single good fpl team with Son and Kane. I disagree, besides not having Robbo, what is so totally wrong with my team? No Wout W?!?

    Ramsdale / Dubravka
TAA, Cancelo, R James, White, Cash
    Salah, Son, Saka, Raphinha, Kulu
    Kane, Broja, Gelhardt

Enough money to upgrade Cash to Laporte and have 0.1 itb. Yes, I picked James over Rudiger or should have transferred Laporte over him in. But I have had both Cancelo and Laporte when both got zero pts vs Norwich. No Havertz or Jota, but are they nailed enough compared to Son going forward.

It was very difficult to predict. Came out of the blue. You got lucky with Rudiger, unlucky with Havertz. So luck basically evened it out for you. No reason to pop up champagne, but result was ok. Normal variance. Havertz looked so good, that I wouldn't worry. Rudiger to James is perhaps something to consider.

I appreciate the advice on Reece I just can’t bring myself to go back there. I benched him for his 18 pointer in gw2 and sold him for Chilwell for his 21 pointer so I’m totally jaded.
Plus I’d rather Rudiger 6 points x2 games than Reece 15 then 0/1.
He’s now got 10 games this season of 1 point or less. Hard to stomach

You want points. Everyone capped Salah. Or not everyone, but "many enough". Most can't afford both Son and Kane, so their ownership is divided.
