Using LiveFPL’s vast array of tools, we look at the squad make-ups and chip usage of the world’s leading Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers ahead of Gameweek 33.

We will examine the 1,000 names in LiveFPL’s ‘Legendary Managers’ list â€“ the historic cream of the crop, much like our own Hall of Fame â€“ but chiefly those in the top 10k in the current overall rankings.

Between the two groups (where there will of course be some overlap), these are the managers who can offer us a better gauge of FPL ownership and chip strategy, as opposed to the overall figures that are skewed by the vast numbers of untouched ‘ghost teams’.

There is heaps of useful information beyond overall and top 10k figures on the LiveFPL site, of course, such as ownership stats for different rank tiers.

TOP 10K AND ‘ELITE’ MANAGERS: GAMEWEEK 32 CAPTAINCY

Above: Gameweek 32 captaincy stats for the all-time greats (right) and the top 10k (left)

Over 80% of the top 10k managers backed a premium Spurs attacker with the armband in Gameweek 32, so a certain Egyptian has much to do on Sunday if he is to even match the scores of that in-form duo.

TOP 10K: CHIP USAGE

Chip deployment was negligible in Gameweek 32, with the most-used being the Wildcard – and even then, there were fewer than 0.5% of the top 10,000 managers who activated it.

One in 10 FPL managers in the top 10,000 still have three or more chips to use, whilst well over half (59.5%) have either maxed out their allocation or have only one chip remaining.

TOP 10K AND ‘ELITE’ MANAGERS: TEMPLATE SQUAD FOR GAMEWEEK 32

After several weeks of upheaval, calm descended on the ‘template’ top 10k team in Gameweek 32.

There was only one change to the most-owned XV of Gameweek 31, with Antonio Rudiger (£6.2m) replacing Reece James (£6.3m) at the back.

Mohamed Salah’s (£13.2m) ownership only took a slight tumble, down to 90% – for all the talk about whether he’s dispensable or not, he’s still the most-owned player in the top 10k.

Selections being split across Tottenham Hotspur’s front three means that four Spurs assets feature in the most-owned list above.

OWNERSHIP STATS FOR THE 1,000 ‘LEGENDARY MANAGERS’ IN GAMEWEEK 32

TOP 10K: TEMPLATE WILDCARD SQUAD

Big at the back and light up top has been the approach of many an FPL manager for a while now, and there’s no change in that approach looking at the ‘template’ Wildcard squad above. Three of the four most-owned players, indeed, are attack-minded defenders, with James not far behind them.

Gameweek 33 Wildcarders were less convinced about Salah’s merits without deserting him altogether.

AVERAGE NUMBER OF PLAYERS OWNED FOR BLANK/DOUBLE GAMEWEEK 33

The average top 10k manager owns just short of 5.5 players who have two fixtures in Double Gameweek 33, with Arsenal assets making up a big chunk of this figure.

United players like Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) and Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.2m) are differentials at 5.82% and 0.87%.

These leading squads contain just under two (1.993) players who blank in Gameweek 33, meanwhile, ie Leeds, Aston Villa and Wolves assets.

I doubt anyone is truly convinced but to me it’s still the best bet available.

The chance to have Ronaldo and Bruno at home to Norwich plus another game against Liverpool as big differentials without needing to keep them after that is still enticing.

I can’t see a better time to take the risk of a FH if you have one left, particularly if you have a BB for 36/37.

I am in the same situation but with Kane and without Son. I may well do a -4 to get both of them. I don't really see a downside given their form.

The hardest thing in this game I find now is playing without fear.I didn't used to play like this. Now I listen to podcasts and read articles telling me I shouldn't sell x player or I should or shouldn't buy x player. But but but he hasn't got a dgw.But but but he blanks in 5 weeks time. This season I'm finding it harder than ever to play my own game.
I play other fantasy games where the financial rewards are potentially greater but I play them for fun not really caring if I do well or not but am obviously happier if I'm doing well !!
Anybody else finding the information overload, fomo etc is affecting how they play the game and their enjoyment ?

I used to listen to the scoutcast but have stopped and now only get info from this forum. I don't have Twitter Facebook etc so not tempted to get info from elsewhere. Far too much spoonfeeding around if u ask me.

      • 10 Years

There’s no point listening to several podcasts a week, because as you say it’s information overload and mostly too repetitive. If there’s one or maybe two you like, stick with those but not several. I personally think you should always just go with your gut in FPL and then if it goes wrong, you can’t blame anyone. If you listen to a pod, make a decision and that decision goes badly, you’ll find yourself blaming those who advised of that decision. I imagine a few people that sold Son to get Kane in GW30 are feeling that way right now.

    3. Qubit
      • 17 Years

Try re-framing your expectation on listening/reading/watching etc. You say overload of info telling you what to do. Instead try seeking information that will help you shape your opinion on what decision to make. "ie what information do I want to help me make the decision" That way you are controlling the flow of information.

I usually listen to one podcast per week (Black Box or The Wire) on a Thursday. 99% of the time, I'll have quite a firm idea of my transfer plans by then, so the pod is more for entertainment / to fill out my wider contextual knowledge around players/teams that I havent researched as closely as those I plan to bring in. Most of my actual decisions are made prior to that on the basis of games I've watched & stats.

I tend to look at the fixtures, players I want, biggest priorities for my team and come to my own conclusions first. Then mostly just watch one or two of Andy's LTFPL videos to see if it highlights any problems with my thoughts or anything I haven't considered. He's very relaxing to listen to, pays respect to the stats and explains things well but doesn't over-analyse.

I obviously look at this site for advice or i wouldn't be on here but started to do my own thing.

Double City and Liverpoool defence and Son instead of Salah has worked well last few weeks.

We are all football fans with different opinions and sometimes your own personal "template" will be better than others so just go with that

    8. Mr. O'Connell
      • 14 Years

Only listen to black box (usually during a quiet period at work), just because it's like listening to a conversation between your mates about FPL. Steer clear of the rest - especially twitter.

Thing that's killed it for me is EO being shoved down your throat as soon as the GW updates. That's what kicks the fear off. It's not going away so I need to deal with it better. Going without Kane these past 4 or 5 weeks hasn't been fun and I usually have a bet on to cover. Shame I've only been betting on his goals and not his assists tho.

Don't understand why people take advice from these podcasters, youtubers and Twitter people anyway. Almost all of them just regurgitate what each other say, offer a few nice graphics and hide behind a few stats which you can get yourself if you can be bothered to look. Play your own game . You will probably be better off 😉

Tough one....though if funds are needed you could go with one of the Spurs attackers plus Kulu.

Kane and Son are both on fire but as there are more options with midfield I'd hold onto Kane over Son

Depends if you are playing WC later and whether you have, say, Barnes. Maddison is a good shout until the end, not only for this double.

    TAA-Cancelo-Doherty* (Konsa-CUCU)
    Salah-SAKA-MADDISON-Bowen(Ramsey)
    KANE-BROJA-WEGHORST

    2FT, 0.1 itb, planning WC 34

    Salah + Konsa + Ramsey >
    Bruno + Schär + Kulu (-4)

would give me 9dgw + Kulu and Kane, while shifting a non playing bench.

At least the man could actually implement basic tactics, hop between formations if things weren’t going to plan and so on.

Instead we get the “godfather” of gengenpressing. Only thing those players are pressing is the self destruct button.
