Sky Fantasy Football has relaunched for 2022/23, so you can head over there now and begin picking your team – or teams plural, as Sky allows you to manage a second XI (and a third from January).

A whopping £50,000 is on offer to the game’s winner next season, with cash prizes of £5,000 and £1,000 dished out to those managers finishing in the other two podium places.

The fourth and fifth-placed managers are awarded games consoles, as are the highest-scoring Fantasy bosses of the month.

HOW DO I PLAY?

Sky Fantasy Football is live: What's new for 2022/23

Just like in Fantasy Premier League, managers select a team of players that will either earn attacking, defensive or bonus points in an attempt to score more than friends, colleagues and/or the rest of the world.

However, this is not a squad-based game: you simply choose a starting XI and do not have a bench.

We have already produced a beginner’s guide which delves deeper into the rules and scoring system – this can be accessed here.

JOIN OUR FFSCOUT MINI-LEAGUE

There are a number of different ways to compete against others in the Sky Sports game, one of which is a Free League.

We have already set up our annual, free-to-enter Fantasy Football Scout mini-league, which you can enter by heading to the â€˜Leagues’ tab and clicking â€˜Join+’.

The full details are below:

League Name: FFScout
League Pin:

HOW FFSCOUT MEMBERSHIP CAN HELP

Our Premium Members Area Opta stats can help you identify players who will potentially benefit from the Sky Sports bonus on offer for saves, tackles, passes and shots on target.

Annual subscriptions are available for a discounted £2.49 a month, billed annually.

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2022/23

ONE OVERHAUL

Where FPL bosses effectively have three Wildcards to play due to the advent of unlimited transfers during the winter World Cup, Sky managers are going to have to think more longer-term.

Previously those playing Sky were allowed two Overhauls a season but this has been whittled down to one.

The Overhaul period will begin when the Premier League breaks for the World Cup and it will run until the domestic action resumes on December 26.

50 TRANSFERS

To help with that long-term planning, Sky have upped the free transfer allocation from 40 to 50 this season.

As was the case beforehand, a maximum of five can be used in one Gameweek (which run from Friday to Thursday as usual).

POSITIONAL RECLASSIFICATIONS

Previously Sky was very top-heavy in terms of player choice, with the majority of attacking options – such as Mohamed Salah – classified as forwards.

There’s been a revamp of the player classifications this time around, however, bringing it more in line with FPL.

Now only bona fide strikers like Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Erling Haaland are forwards, with Salah, Son Heung-min et al reclassified as midfielders.

NO MAN OF THE MATCH?

Conspicuous by its absence in the scoring section of the rules page was the ‘Man of the Match’ bonus, which has presumedly been scrapped for the new season.

A lot of people will be kicking themselves for overlooking pope i think. Removing the city and Tottenham games newcastle in 2022 conceded 1 goal 10 times and kept 7 clean sheets in 17 games. Since then they have uograded their keeper and centre back. Pope has been consistently one of the best keepers in the game for saves, clean sheets and bonus. I predict returns in the region of 40 gc 15 cs 100 saves 15 bps

As you note, key is GWs 3 and 5. You could have a 4.5 backup, but you could also start with another 5m keeper and switch to Pope GW6. Starting with Ramsdale might give you an optimal situation.

      Bold statement.
We only set our team for few weeks then go to our first WC, why would you want a keeper with unfavorable fixture for gw 3 and 5?

I agree that he will be great this season. Starting with a 5.0 is just awkward as he's first to go if you need a 0.1 somewhere. Hopefully a 4.5 will outscore him and might pick Pope up for 4.8m at some point. Nothing wrong with starting with him though, i think ManCity and Liverpool games are good for saves.

Yeah I think he's a great option. Since I put Trippier in my draft instead I can't seem to settle on another GK

I could hardly see any drafts having Son, I can understand the price point but what if the case he outscores Mo in GW1?

Having both of them in same squad would make the team little bit unbalanced unless someone not trying to have any premium forward.

    Anyone thinking differently?

I think a lot of people are preferring Kane - he's cheaper and there are far fewer desirable forwards than there are midfielders. There's also Kulu as an alternative Spurs mid if you have 2 premiums in Salah and Haaland.

I've managed to put a decent squad together with Son & Mo
      Raya/(Balcombe)
      Tomiyasu/Justin/Trent/Mings/Perisic
      Salah/Son/BrunoG/Neto (Murphy)
      Kane(Haaland g/w2)Jesus/(Greenwood)
      3 Premiums plus Trent & 5 playing defenders !
I might make a few tweaks to the squad (Justin,Mings,Neto etc) but the big hitters will stay

        Raya

        Gazza / Andreas / Williams / 4.5

Here is my first draft. 5-3-2

    GK: Ederson (Forster)
    DEF: Cancelo-TAA-Robbo-
    Chilwell-Cash
    MID: Salah-Rashford-Willock (DewburyHall)-(Andreas)
    ATT: Haaland-Jesus-(Greenwood)

Went with Ederson to enable triple City and Liverpool from the start with both double up in defence.
Will wait and see Rashford in pre season but feel like for 6.5m he will be a bargain if he can get back to form.
Apart from Ederson has anyone got suggestions of who I should downgrade to improve the 3rd midfield position? Currently Willock and DewsburyHall rotating.

    1. Andy_Social
      • 13 Years

It's decent, but you identify a weakness - rotation is not much use if neither of them start. There's a ton of options; one boring certain starter and one punty pick would be fine. Mind you, Andrea's is there if neither start.

I'd pick a different gk fodder, one from a team you know you'll never want 3 players from.

Probably best to downgrade one (or more) of Robbo (to a 6.0 or Perisic), Chilwell (to Perisic or a 5.0) or Cash (to a 4.5) and use the extra funds to strengthen that 3rd midfield spot.

Could even downgrade one of Willock/KDH to a 4.5 fodder to give you an extra 0.5 to play with.

Thought I would put together 4-4-2, problem is does not leave me much room to change midfielders as the price points apart from Diaz are 6.0 and 5.5.

    Raya

    TAA / Cancelo / Chilwell / James

    Salah / Diaz / Martinelli / Neto

    Kane / Jesus

    Balcombe | Williams | Andreas | Greenwood

Basically identical yo me. With the same issues. I want Jesus and that messes me up. Also choose 1 of 2 Chelski IMO and hope Cancelo become Cuca. I want the facility to get Sterling/Bruno sometime and I might lose Kane/Haarland to do it later.

My situation is even more extreme. After Salah, my 2nd mid is 6.0m. I have to put massive faith in my GW1 squad. It's a risk I'm willing to take, but most wouldn't.

Yeah it's tough, playing with 1 premium up top my midfield is much stronger 2 or 3x 8.0m mids.

Not sure what formation to start with 🙂

I think many are in a similar position - Jesus would like be sacrificed in a 2 sub move if a 2nd 8m mid was that necessary. I certainly want at least 1 8.0m type mid - hard to predict which will fire but odds are at least one will as so many of them. I'm currently on Maddison but will change many times yet I'm sure!

    2. Eyes of Blue
      • 4 Years
      4 years, 17 days ago

With my similar 4-4-2, instead of James and Chilwell I’ve got a 5.5 (Perisic) and a 4.5. That then gives me an extra 2.0m to strengthen the midfield, meaning I can get in another 8.0 midfielder.

Struggling to get a solid salah side, finally came up with this

    Raya
    Botman, James, Robertson, laporte, tomiyasu

    Salah, Neto, son

    Haaland, jesus.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your feedback. I was thinking the same. This was the salah less team I was thinking. Means I get to keep son for spurs cover and have diaz as Liverpool attack.

        Alisson
        Arnold, cancelo, James, trippier, tiermey

        Son, diaz, coutinho

        Haaland, jesus

Not sure which would 2 go with

        Thanks in advance

I prefer the balance of the 2nd although I'm going for Mo and missing a Spurs option. Whichever you don't have is a concern but the boosts everywhere else feels worth it. Essentially go with whichever of the 2 you will more happily captain GW1.

(Some are starting with Kane and then swapping to Haaland GW2 but I hate prebooking an early transfer).

If you are going without Mo though maybe lose Alisson as part of sqreezing in Robo somehow.

Im not a fan of that big upfront so I tried this:

      4,5/4,5

      White / Laporte / VvD / Botman / B.Williams

      Son / Salah / KdB/ Andreas / Murphy

      Jesus / Johnson / 4,5

I’m just thinking Haaland is unproven in PL, if he is as good as ppl say he will get many defenders on him and KdB gets more room, and he is proven fpl royalty

Very sound reasoning and could be right.

            Comes down to....

            1. kane & KdB or....
            2. Son & Haaland

            Could go either way

Leicester FB worth looking at athough it's 2 from 3 and not sure which. Neco Williams looks great value at 4.0 but fixt before gw6 a bit messy. I'll have him though I think.

Yeah just not sure which 2 it will be with Justin making such an impact last season when injuries were rife but we should know by the time we need to and for now can just placehold one. Before he broke Ricardo Pereira was excellent but whether he will get back to where he was remains to be seen.

Bruno G, Martinelli, Neto of the ones we know.

Someone is going to emerge out of the £5.5m - £6.5m bracket though, so at this moment, for me anyway, it’s more of a case of making sure I’m ready to jump early when that player starts to identify himself.

It might even be someone like Brooks at Bournemouth, or Yates at Forest. Could be Eze at Palace, especially if Gallagher doesn’t return to them from Chelsea.

At the moment it’s not a great price point for assets, but that will eventually change.

Forest really need to strengthen in attacking midfield. I love Yates but we've lost two of our best attacking mids we really need to replace could emerge in that price range.

Was talk of us being in for Yusuf Yazici looks a potential Zinckernagel replacement but we need to replace James Garner as well.

We've been rebuffed by Maxwel Cornet at Burnley but that's still a possibility too.

Yes, I’m just using him as an example of the fact that gems can emerge that no one saw coming.

Johnson is the man for me at Forest, but it doesn’t always work that way in the Prem.

What are your thoughts on Scott McKenna as a CB?

Love McKenna and Worrall - we've bought a couple of CB but will play 3 and should continue to do well. Niakhate seems to have a good debut last night too.

I think the value is likely to be in our wingbacks though. Biancone got a goal last night is promising but in terms of a Forest defender I really can't see past Neco Williams taking over the Spence role at right wingback at 4.0m. He already has the Welsh connection with Johnson too hopefully helps him settle in quickly.

Must is debatable as depends where the million goes but Cancello worth the extra imo.

Last summer Luke Shaw was the kindly priced, must have who will score ton of points.
Looks like Neto is community's obsession this summer.

    1. So if Luke Shaw did well last year then Neto would be a good pick this year?

The hive mind of the community has had some absolute howlers over the years but it's had some gems too! With so little currently at his price point Neto makes a lot of sense but obviously there are a lot of players yet to join/leave/move yet will change things ....

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has to be our worst of a Wolves flavour many many moons ago! I'm happy Neto will do better than him at least ....

It's always funny to watch. A year ago i remember mocking some highly upvoted post claiming shaw was an elite attacking fullback comparable to trent, robertson, cancelo etc and massively underpriced. Neto is a funny one. Hes a very talented young player and was one of the most exciting youngsters in europe in his breakout season before the long injury. If you really need a 5.5 mid he's a decent option. He was a much better prospect in nuno's system imo. My guess is he might get around 10-12 g/a over the season and the hauls will be inconsistent and unpredictable. I wouldnt pick him as a weekly starter. Decent if you go with a flexible rotating squad.

Working out whats required to go salahless. How many of these are needed

-Haaland needs to be perma captain
-Salah scores less than 3 goals or assist opening 3 GW
-Darwin or Nunez score more than Salah first 3 GW
-Salah subbed off at 70m in opening games

You don't need Diaz/Darwin to outscore him at 5m/4m less. If your captaincy picks (Håland/Son/Kane) keep pace with Salah then you don't need him

When available Martinelli started in 19 of last 23 pl games for arsenal

Already 2 assists for Jesus in pre season. I think he's favorite to start at LW right and could keep his place if playing well

Worth a punt at 6.0m right?

ESR is more of a threat to Odegaard imo

In all honesty, the choices at that price are limited.

There’s Martinelli, Bruno G or Neto (£0.5m cheaper) and that’s about it as far as known commodities with decent early fixtures, and a reasonable expectation of starting, are concerned.

As I said above, we are going to get assets emerging at that price, but it’s going to take a few weeks for them to identify themselves.

For now, though, most are choosing the safety of one of those 3 players mentioned above.

He's pretty much locked in for me. Standout pick in his price range. Feel he will kick on to something like 12-15 goals this year. Good chance he's on pens too

Martinelli took the last one, and apparently Arteta was "surprised" that Saka (not Martinelli) took the pen against Chelsea

Diaz is a definitely solid pick. While for Haaland there is lot of hype (probably for the right reasons), I would want to wait and see. On the other hand, KDB is a PL tested player and would seems to be going under the radar. If it explodes in my face, early WC to the rescue.

Different but I quite like it - see lots of Haalands but not many KDB recently. (Although I'm also on the Haaland train).

Obviously pre-season impact of Rich to be monitored on Kulu.

It's missing the essential mighty Neco Williams ofc!

Ok I'll give it go... may not be the definitive answers you're looking for but hope it helps a little anyway.

      Spurs:
RWB - Doherty should be a fairly secure starter initially. Spence may be phased in gradually. Emerson dead once a new signing arrives.
LWB - Probably Perisic ahead of Sessegnon but I'm not entirely sure, could see Sess playing a lot too. Reguilon a hard avoid.
CBs - All same price so just get Romero, by far nost nailed & can pick up bonus. Would prob start alongside Dier & Lenglet/Davies pending further arrivals.

      Arsenal:
RB - Tomiyasu ahead of Cedric
LB - Tierney, Tavares in emergencies only
CBs - Gabriel nailed, set piece threat & good for bonus. Some talk that White's place could be threatened by Martinez/Saliba. Not sure if Holding will be trusted again after moronic performance v Spurs

Worth monitoring but I'm quite skeptical. There's no sources whatsoever in the article, and they also claim that Conte signed Emerson when in fact it was under Nuno that he joined. Also seen rumour-mongering elsewhere about Emerson wanting to leave. And (getting a bit more subjective now), Emerson was so poor on the ball that I just can't see Conte trusting him as the main RWB while getting someone like Spence (with no PL experience) up to speed

Is it mad going big at the back and up front but light in midfield? Been tinkering too much I think…

    Trent, Cancelo, Robertson, Perisic, Trippier
    Diaz, Martinelli
    Haaland, Kane, Jesus

Surprised not to see Darwin Nunez in more teams. What is the key reason putting people off?

Safer options up front? Better options for the Liverpool slot? Pricing? Unsure if he’ll adjust? Rotation?
