Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Mohamed Salah were among the big Fantasy Premier League (FPL) names in action on Tuesday and Wednesday as more pre-season friendlies were staged.

We’ve got all the goal, assist and line-up information you need in this latest Scout Notes article.

We’re also keeping tabs on the minutes played in all of these warm-up fixtures, with Premium Members of Fantasy Football Scout able to access this information at the bottom of this article.

FPL points predictions for Gameweek 3 and beyond 3

K LEAGUE 3-6 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

  • Goals: Dier, own-goal, Kane x2, Son x2 (1 pen)
  • Assists: Gil, Kane, Moura, Son

Match highlights

Son Heung-min (£12.0m) and Harry Kane (£11.5m) carried on where they left off at the back-end of last season with three attacking returns apiece as Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season got underway in South Korea.

The calibre of the opposition of course has to be acknowledged here (insert joke about Gameweek 1 opponents Southampton), with Son in particular the beneficiary of some abysmal defending for both of his strikes.

One of his goals was a penalty but, in case you’re worried as a Kane owner, Son was graciously handed spot-kick duties as he was playing in his home country in front of frenzied support. The winger was even substituted onto the field mere minutes into the second half, to allow him a standing ovation.

“It was a great gesture from Harry to leave the penalty to Son. Sonny is also good at kicking penalties but we know very well that the player to kick the penalty is Harry. But Sonny showed that [if] Harry is out, he is ready to kick the penalty.” – Antonio Conte

Kane’s strikes were both from distance, the first a trademark, fizzing low effort from open play and the second a deflected free-kick after Son had been fouled. Son followed up his penalty with another goal when intercepting an abysmal pass out from the back by a K League defender.

Both premium FPL picks were joined by a lively if wasteful Richarlison (£8.5m) in the front three after the break, with the Brazilian – who started the game through the middle as Kane and Son watched on from the bench – playing on the right wing in the absence of Dejan Kulusevski (£8.0m).

“Today I’ve seen a lot of positive things about Richy. The first half he played like a number nine and the second half he played on the right, behind the striker. I think he can play in all these three positions.

“I think he is strong physically and a good personality, good character, good quality. For sure also for Richy in this period he is working and we are working on the tactical aspects with him because he has to go into our idea. At the same time, we have to work on the physical aspects for him to be fit. But for sure he is a player that gives me important positions up front.

He’s a player that is a good player, strong and very good to protect the ball and attack the space. Also he made a good assist, I’m very happy that we signed him.” – Antonio Conte

Kulusevski wasn’t alone in playing no part in Seoul, with Ivan Perisic (£5.5m) also unused. Fitness issues explained their absences, while there was a reminder from Conte that coronavirus isn’t going away any time soon and will still have an impact on team selection in 2022/23.

“About Kulusevski and Ben Davies, you have seen that they had a good training session. Ben Davies also yesterday, for Ben it was the second training session and he needed to recover and run and do the same training as the players did in the last two days. It was the same for Kulusevski.

“And yeah we had a problem with Covid, with Bissouma because the test was positive. Bissouma and Fraser [Forster]. For this reason they weren’t here with us. Yes, [they are isolating].

“Perisic is working very well. He’s very close. I think tomorrow he could have a part of the training session with us. Honestly we are satisfied because his recovery is going very fast and we are happy about this and when we come back in London he will start to have some of the training session with us.” – Antonio Conte

Spurs were in their usual 3-4-3 shape for their pre-season opener, although we were treated to the sight of Lucas Moura (£6.0m) at right wing-back in the second half as the fit-again Matt Doherty (£5.0m) deputised for Perisic on the opposite flank.

Spurs XI (3-4-3): Austin (Lloris 46), Romero (Tanganga 46), Dier (Sayers 76), Sanchez (Fagan-Walcott 76), Royal (Son 48), Skipp (Sarr 46), Bentancur (Hojbjerg 46), Sessegnon (Doherty 46), Lucas (White 76), Richarlison (Parrott 76), Bryan (Kane 46)

MANCHESTER UNITED 4-0 LIVERPOOL

  • Goals: Sancho, Fred, Martial, Pellistri
  • Assists: Amad

Match highlights

First things first before we proclaim this the start of an exciting new era under Erik ten Hag: the scoreline flattered Manchester United and they were playing against mostly academy products and reserves when racing into a 3-0 lead against Liverpool on Monday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had twice as many shots as United and edged the game on expected goals (xG), too, along with possession.

Image

But with those caveats ringing in your ears, it was still an encouraging start to life after Ralf Rangnick.

There were at least the signs of some identity and tactical innovation after what seemed like years of rudderless displays, with the Manchester Evening News highlighting the improved pressing, underlapping runs from full-backs and a higher line as just some of the ideas that ten Hag has already instilled. There was also, coincidence or not after a promising team display, no Cristiano Ronaldo (£10.5m).

With United players taking price cuts aplenty in FPL after a dire 2021/22, we can only hope that the progress continues and we can be presented with some potential bargains this season.

The front three against Liverpool, for example, were much more threatening after an underwhelming last year, with right-winger Jadon Sancho (£7.5m) and centre-forward Anthony Martial (£7.0m) in particular catching the eye and punishing defensive mistakes with goals.

Even Marcus Rashford (£6.5m), stationed on the left of the front three, was a little better and saw plenty of sights of goal.

“Of course it will take time, believe me I have seen a lot of mistakes but I will not say [what they were]. But to be honest, Liverpool played with three teams and they were not at their strongest, so we are not overestimating them [our players]. We saw some really good things. What you see is we have a lot of creativity and speed in the front and we have potential.” – Erik ten Hag

Fred’s (£5.5m) delicate chip and Facundo Pellistri‘s (£4.5m) breakaway goal capped off a satisfying evening for the Red Devils.

As for Liverpool, there are no causes for alarm given that their starting XI contained such obscure names as Isaac Mabaya, Luke Chambers and Tyler Morton.

Chances came and went for the Merseyside club and it was no surprise that the opportunities flowed once the big guns were thrown on for fitness-building cameos after an hour, with Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) striking the post and having an effort saved at point-blank range. Darwin Nunez (£9.0m) also had a couple of sniffs on his debut, while Luis Diaz (£8.0m) and Fabio Carvalho (£5.5m) had earlier hit the woodwork.

“Obviously the game came a little bit too early for us, for some of our boys, so I think we agree that we saw a lot of good things in this game, but in the decisive moments we were not clear enough with finishing our situations off. We gave massive chances away, pretty much. Pretty much no-brainers, but United did well in these moments, they finished the situations off.” – Jurgen Klopp

Manchester United XI:  De Gea (Heaton 68); Dalot (Wan-Bissaka 46), Varane (Bailly 46), Lindelof (Telles 46), Shaw (Malacia 46); McTominay (Iqbal 46), Fred (Savage 46); Sancho (Pellistri 46), Fernandes (van de Beek 46), Rashford (Elanga 46); Martial (Diallo 46)

Liverpool XI: Alisson (Adrian 46); Mabaya (Frauendorf 32, Alexander-Arnold 61), Phillips (Matip 32, Konate 61), Gomez (Williams 32, van Dijk 61), Chambers (Tsimikas 32, Robertson 61); Henderson (Clarkson 32, Fabinho 61), Morton (Oxlade-Chamberlain 32, Hill 61), Carvalho (Milner 32, Thiago 61); Elliott (Bajcetic 32, Keita 61), Diaz (Jones 32, Salah 61), Firmino (Clark 32, Nunez 61).

BURTON ALBION 0-1 NOTTINGHAM FOREST

  • Goal: Cook
  • Assist: Cafu

We’ve still yet to see Brennan Johnson (£6.0m) in pre-season, with the Wales international allowed a belated return to training after representing his nation in June.

A similar side to the one that took on Coventry City last week was named by Steve Cooper at the Pirelli Stadium, with Forest again in the 3-4-1-2 set-up that their manager favoured towards the end of 2021/22.

Two £4.5m midfielders again lined up in the middle of the park in the shape of Cafu and Jack Colback, with the former claiming the assist for the only goal of the game when his corner was met by defender Steve Cook (£4.5m).

Their pre-season game-time prospects were given a brief lift by an injury to regular Ryan Yates (£5.0m), who is now a big doubt for Gameweek 1 because of a knee problem.

“Yatesy is out for a month. He got injured in Spain, unfortunately. He’s strained a ligament in his knee. It’s a blow for him.

“As you’d expect, he came back extremely fit and raring to go. He hit the ground running in Spain, caught the eye in training, and then unfortunately he’s picked that up.” – Steve Cooper

But having seen Yates’s midfield partner of last season, loanee James Garner, return to Manchester United, it always looked likely that Cooper would seek to bolster his options in the engine room this summer. That effort will surely be doubled now that Yates is out, so don’t count on either Cafu or Colback lining up against Newcastle United on the opening weekend.

“There will be more [signings], there has to be. There’s certainly a fair few that need to come in, for sure.” – Steve Cooper

There might also be some mild anxiety about the game-time of Neco Williams (£4.0m), the bargain-bin defender who many FPL managers were hoping to count on this season. With Williams’ return to pre-season training delayed due to his involvement with Wales last month, the versatile Giulian Biancone (£4.5m) has laid down a marker at right wing-back, impressing against admittedly limited opposition on Monday and going close to scoring again after his goal against Coventry last week.

Nottingham Forest XI: Henderson, Niakhate (Mbe Soh 64), Cook (Harbottle 64), Worrall (Panzo 64), Biancone (Back 64), Colback (Ojeda 64), Cafu (Konate 64), Ioannou (Donnelly 64), Hammond, L Taylor (Mighten 53), Awoniyi (D Taylor 64)

BOREHAM WOOD 1-1 WEST HAM UNITED
IPSWICH TOWN 1-2 WEST HAM UNITED

  • Goals: Benrahma | Zouma, Chesters
  • Assists: Ashby

Match highlights v Ipswich
Match highlights v Boreham Wood

David Moyes split his squad across two pre-season friendlies on Monday.

The marginally stronger side took to the field at Ipswich, with Michail Antonio (£7.5m) leading the line for the Hammers and in the thick of things at Portman Road.

It was the forward who provided the cross that Kurt Zouma (£4.5m) scored at the second attempt, with Antonio having earlier struck the woodwork with an effort of his own.

The profligate incarnation of Antonio, who we saw for much of 2021/22 after his incredible August, was then in evidence again as he wasted two clear openings either side of half-time.

Over at Boreham Wood, Said Benrahma (£6.0m) scored West Ham’s only goal of the game with a direct free-kick. The Algerian spurned a one-on-one chance later in the first half.

Moyes’s troops were again stationed in the usual 4-2-3-1 in both matches.

The Hammers were still missing their international contingent, including Jarrod Bowen (£8.5m), who were given an extended break after representing their countries last month. They have already begun pre-season training, so should be involved against Reading on Saturday.

West Ham United XI v Boreham Wood: Randolph (Trott 46), Laing, Diop, Baptiste (Ogbonna 67), Masuaku, Ekwah, Forson, Benrahma, Lanzini (Swyer 63), Nevers (Coddington 86), Mubama

West Ham United XI v Ipswich: Fabiański, Ashby, Zouma, Alese, Cresswell, Coventry, Downes, Chesters, Fornals, Okoflex (Earthy 89), Antonio

every time I try do something different than basically the same as everyone else I end up losing a second premium....

i love this team, but am worried about no Haaland/Kane/Son

    Mendy (4.0)
    TAA, Cancelo, Chilwell, Cash (4.0)
    Salah, Sterling, Diaz, Foden, Gordon/5.5
    Jesus (4.5, 4.5)

If Haaland go mad and Salah didnt do anything, u have so many trouble because u dont have Kane (the same price bracket to Haaland, difficult to buy them) , his ownership is the highest, almost everyone will get ahead.

i suppose i'm open to an early wildcard.
this is more an exercise than a commitment though.

i really hope i have the conviction to not just chose Haaland because everyone else does. (I'm happy to chose him if i think he's a good choice).

Thats good. I love that priciple. I dont have Trent just because everyone have him.

But I have Haaland . First because I know he is good than because he act like as a shield. Can be Kane too.

Downgrade Sterling and upgrade that bench! 2x4.5 forwards is useless and the 4.0 defender will be starting often for you. I personally like Foden but he will sit out many games.

In terms of the safest, most template draft, I think this is the best I can do, especially in terms of “threemium”. Has a flavour of differential in Alisson, BrunoG, and Gordon, and playing one of Neco/Andreas every week which both could frustrate many being on their bench. Admittedly, BrunoG is more highly owned than I could have imagined. Have to be careful about his value. Plan will be Son > KdB(C) GW2.

    Alisson
    TAA Perisic Tomiyasu Neco
    Salah Son(C) BrunoG Gordon
    Haaland Jesus

Looks great initially, but a starting 4m and one active sub to cover him is too risky.
All you have to do is get a 4.5 keeper and use the 1m to convert Ferg/Patt to a good 5m defender.

      1. Athletic Nasherbo
        • 9 Years

Agreed, but I just can’t look past the value of Alisson. Hopefully, I can get away with it. If not, I’ll sort it. Hopefully, a 4.0m defender emerges such as Nat P or Patterson just for bench points and peace of mind.

I completely get your comments though, but I genuinely think Neco and Andreas are priced 0.5m and 1.0m too cheap, respectively. When I take that into account, they aren’t the typical fodder we are used to, and thus more inclined at playing one, initially.

Agree about Neco and Andreas - great bench assets, which is why I don't recommend losing them. But needing them in your Starting XI is another matter. Bruno to Neto would get you 0.5 for an active 4.5 defender.

Equally, Perisic to Doherty is another way. I think I’m being too stubborn on Neto, whilst I love BrunoG - exciting luck with the goals he could score. Might be one where I downgrade to get some cash after GW2.

I reckon 90% of people who have Neto in their drafts do so purely due to his convenient price, not out of any 'love' for him.

                3 years, 9 months ago

I think probably 20/30% of that 90% have chosen him because he’s the template pick without much research or thought on alternatives. Neto at that price is still good, just overhyped if we are looking at purely ownership relative to other 5.5m options.

                  • 13 Years
                  3 years, 9 months ago

Maybe, but of that 60% not swayed by hype or simply copying others, there's a good case to be made, and that case is basically, "what are the alternatives?" I mean, he's by far my most unenthusiastic pick, and would be out if only there were someone better for the first 7 gameweeks. Other5.5s either play too deep or aren't nailed. Wissa and Everton assets are the only real alternatives; Wolves are a better outfit than Everton, and I'm not convinced Wissa is nailed with new acquisitions by the Bees.
I've laready got 2x4.5 mids on my bench so I'm not downscaling to a 5.0, and when I tried to upgrade Neto to Rashford, it weakened other parts I'm satisfied with. So that common weak midfield paring of Martinelli and Neto that I and many others have, works efficiently due to their prices.

I've got no love for Neto but he's currently in my team based on fixtures and price, and as a good rotation option with Andreas. I'm intending to play regularly. That said, I could be tempted to move Neto to Bailey. Will assess nearer GW1.

Andreas won't be leaving my side. 4.5m is a steal, both an enabler and real prospect of decent points. Same for Neco. I think both will end up in my starting eleven more than any other 4.5/4.0 in mid/Def respectively I've had in any other year.

My problem with a highly owned asset in this range is the chance of an early price drop if he does not hit the ground running. A 4.0 or a 4.5 mid has less chance of a drop but Neto/Gordon/Martinelli are vulnerable.

With Raph gone, I think I'm starting with Sinisterra over Martinelli

Also going Doc over Perisic because I see their minutes being similar for the first 6, after which I'll probably run away from their defence until WC1

Not going Chilwell over James, but I see the merits

I wouldn't be surprised to have Rashford, ASM, H. Wilson, Trossard or Martinelli/ESR at some point in that Sinisterra spot

Jimenez could be great for those first 6, especially if he's flanked by Neto and Podence instead of Hwang and Silva

And then the usual PPM suspects: Sterling, Mahrez, Maddison

Manchester United's Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, has received an offer of 300m euros (£254m) to play for two seasons for a club in Saudi Arabia.

I can see this being his final destination when he realises no CL side wants him.

Can’t imagine Ronaldo making that move, he seems to be so much about playing at the top level for as long as he can and that’s effectively retiring. If that’s his best offer I think he stays at United.

Retiring with quite the bag though if this falls through! An unknown player like himself could use the money 😉

It's not all about him now. He's burnt his bridges at United going public with his desire to leave. He expected top European clubs to come running but none want him.

          • 10 Years

For me the bridge was burnt the second he was effectively signing with City. Had to be begged to come to United by Rio and Fergie and they ended up paying him more than City were offering. I was surprised at how easily United fans got over that one, it was abundantly clear that were it not for last minute desperate intervention, he was going to City.

I don’t think he cares about legacy or burning bridges. If you can borderline sign for Manchester City and get treated like a hero, he knows there isn’t a bridge to burn anymore. Heck, United fans seem to be cheering him on to leave the team! His problem is that no one wants to pay those wages.

I for one am riding on the completely unrealistic hope that he goes to PSG. We need to see Ronaldo and Messi play together.

I see so much perisic out here and I just don’t know about his minutes. There’s five subs this year too. He’s probably rarely going to get the clean sheet points even if spurs do get it. Look at his mins at inter under conte in a 3-sub world. He is probably also going to prioritize his play for CL.

I have this theory that with five subs it’s going to change pep roulette quite a lot and we’ll see more in game rotation and less game to game rotation. Might be totally wrong but I think this plays into hands of guys like Mahrez

fair; I guess I took the opposite idea from the same facts. I was thinking he’s conservative with in game subs and now would move to 2-4 subs per game because of the cushion

I suspect the truth will turn out to be somewhere in the middle. But for Mahrez, who was subbed on a lot last season, it would mean he'll be an even more frequent 1-point cameo sub with the odd haul at random.

Unless he gets more starts - but where do Foden and Grealish play? Will Bilva stay and compete for minutes, or will he go? If he gets his Barca move, do they bring someone in - Gnabry?

Such uncertainty, flavoured with the usual pain of Peptation causes me to sweve the City midfield at this time.

I like the top 6 teams idea. I have achieved 10 or 11 starters too but with a lot different formation.
Firstly I like all the picks but normally I would baulk at a team spending that much up front, but I presume this allows you ready captain picks without transfer which is good.
It’s an aggressive gamble if it doesn’t work you can WC early as we basically have an extra WC.
Most of all no Salah is not for me.
But to be fair if we discount Salah considering how much is spent up front or looks balanced.

Agree with all your comments. I bet your sole non-Top 6 player is same as mine - Neto!

I think starting with a Top 6 - only Starting XI is good at the beginning since they also have good fixtures, but it might run into trouble when midweek European ties kick in. That might prompt, as Potato suggests, a wildcard.

Would be a nice starting 10 that’s for sure 🙂
Something that is never seen as an option. We have weeks when most of the team blank but we have to get 11 starters out.
        However I don’t think it’s a theory I will test !!
Diaz for VVD and one defence downgrade and it looks a bit more balanced. Hopefully Rashford looks like a starter and Wilson is nice at 6.0 but gotta wait for the fixtures to turn.

So here it is with changes needs a starting Rashford and his fixtures are not great but the team I am most happy with when I try to squeeze Haaland in with Salah. And yes Digne over Cash but when 2 of the 3 FPL wire guys strongly favour Digne who am I to argue and he is a diff.
Jesus over Saka is an easy swap if Haaland is too risky for rotation when the CL kicks in.

        Henderson

        TAA Cancelo James Perisic Digne

        Salah Diaz Rashford

I've suggested in the past that there's no need to fear only ten or even nine players getting on the pitch if they deliver, if the alternative is a weaker squad with too many 2-pointers. Mind you, with my strategy, I haul one week and get knocked out of Last Man Standing the next!

Your revised squad looks great for the first 3 or 4 weeks. At that point, Forest and Villa run into rough waters, just as your premiums have European midweeks (I'd particularly worry about Perisic).

Let just call it good for 4 weeks and a WC for GW5 !!
Kovacic was someone who did great for me as an enabler at 5.0 last year - had him at the right time before he got injured. I think he could be nice if starting - pre season will tell a lot. Do you he has a chance of being nailed?

            Sounds spot on.
Kovacic - I had him at the right time too. Chelsea don't appear to be strengthening midfield and Kov and Kante are injury prone. Jorginho has just spoken out about staying. The 3 of them tend to rotate and then there's RLC too. For, me Kov is worth the gamble unless and until there are signs that suggest otherwise.

It’s good but no Trent, Haaland or Salah is scary. If you trust The Son and Kane combo go for it at least short term and do an early WC.

I think an easy path to Trent is through Laporte if you downgrade Mitro to 4.5 and a small upgrade on the 4th defender.
Solanke and Mitro did well in Chamionship but PL is different gravy. Their previous in PL would not inspire me.

        Very solid draft there.
For me, Jesus is there due to lack of alternatives - Vardy is too expensive and the cheaper forwards are nowhere near good value. Saka can easily be interchanged with other 8m mids.

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. The only reason he's the bandwagon is because there are no better options. For now, anyway.

Waiting to see some pre season games and then decide. If saka seems the better option then he’s in.

Who wrote this nonsense? The quality of writing on this site is very poor, as evidenced in this paragraph: "The calibre of the opposition of course has to be acknowledged here (insert joke about Gameweek 1 opponents Southampton), with Son in particular the beneficiary of some abysmal defending for both of his strikes."

Please, hire someone to proofread your writing, people. It's getting worse by the day.

Thoughts on lamptey and his game time?

Looking for a 4.5 defender. Already have Arsenal and Newcastle defenders.

Probably good if he's fit, but he never is for long. Dunk has a goal in him and is nailed

Not bad but poor bench and no Citeh. caused by wanting Sterling is my guess.

You’ve got 4 City players. Lose Ederson and you can keep Lloris. Problem solved.

No point laving money in the bank for the start of the season. Go back to the drawing board this does not work 🙂

But I wanted to keep at least point 5 back for emergencies. Alas, it means more cost catting. I am going to be frugal like Moshiri.

Can't find the story/actual link, but some local journalists are pushing CR7 to Saudi for bazillions. Two year sportswashing contract, then back to Sporting for one final season.

It was linked to on the BBCwebsite. I commented on it earlier, a convenient get-out for all parties.

Pretty decent move for all indeed, the sportswashing notwithstanding. This FPL season is looking like a new game entirely. Lot of new blood.

in this case, if money is leaving Saudi and being used in the free world; wash as much as they like.
Maybe Ronaldo will give it to charity.

Upset Real players, upset Juve players, upset ManU players.
Who will he upset in Saudi?

        article here:

        https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/transfers/man-utd-offered-25m-for-cristiano-ronaldo-as-star-weighs-up-stunning-211m-contract/ar-AAZxYHd?ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=7cf116cd79a44fe7a4d86cd99462e560

Just a thought - if the paymaster is the Saudi PIF, which also owns Newcastle, could they loan him to Toon for a bag of sand?
