Our regular look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) set-piece takers details which players are on penalties, corner-kicks and free-kicks at their respective clubs.

Our Set-Piece Takers tab rounds up our estimated pecking order at any given time but these shorter-term recaps look at what’s happened in the Gameweek just gone.

A not insignificant 21.8% of all goals scored in the Premier League last season came from set plays, with penalties responsible for a further 7.8%.

Based on the data collection in our Premium Members Area, here is a breakdown from the latest round of matches (Liverpool and Manchester United will be added after tonight’s match).

GAMEWEEK 3: KEY OBSERVATIONS AND NOTEWORTHY CHANGES

  • With the season settling down, set-piece pecking orders are starting to become apparent and there were few notable changes on the corner/indirect free-kick front from Gameweek 2.
  • New signings and budget assets Neco Williams (£4.0m), Andreas Pereira (£4.5m) and Marcus Tavernier (£5.0m) have added direct free-kick responsibility on top of their duties from corners and indirect free-kicks, each registering an effort in Gameweek 3.
  • Kieran Trippier (£5.0m) has now scored with three of the four direct free-kicks he has taken for Newcastle United.
  • Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m) was again on penalty-taking duties for Crystal Palace but this was his third miss in six attempts from 12 yards.
  • Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5m) has now taken Brighton and Hove Albion’s last three penalties, scoring the most-recent two attempts. Pascal Gross (£5.7m) was on the field for Mac Allister’s spot-kick in Gameweek 3.

Not an Arsenal fan but have to rate the project since Arteta has come in, absolutely amazing rebuild and now in for Neto too.

Yeah, many folk who asked for him to be sacked were quite naive.

Yup I was defending him to Arsenal fans, in my view whenever he has his full 11 out they played excellent football and even gave the likes of Man City and Liverpool a decent showing, it's whenever he has a key injury or two they'd fall apart. I just never blamed him for that because that applies to lots of top managers, including those with better squads

It’s been a long slog but finally showing signs for the future. Last season fall off was v painful also.

Man Utd need to start again like this. Will take a couple years.

Not happy paying £50m for Neto though.

Man utd have tried many times, with more money and elite managers and failed. That's why Arteta is so impressive, I just hope Arsenal fans don't hound him out if he falls short of top 4, somebody has to miss out after all

I really think Arsenal will get top 4, so much stronger this year. I think we’ll be above Chelsea and Spurs tbh.

          Season is open.

I predicted above Chelsea but not above Spurs, Chelsea look in a mess but they can still pull massive signings out the bag

I dont think you can blame the fans after that start and the performances in the previous season. The fans need to see something from the team to be able to reciprocate, especially given the frustrations over the past decade.

He has splashed a lot of money since he became manager and so far he hasn't been successful. After 3 games, folk are getting carried away. They have a tough October month.

      1. @persecuted_by_mods
        3 years, 12 months ago

Depends what you count as success? They've been out of top 4 for an age, had people like laca auba mustafi koscielny etc, he's basically done a rebuild job with youth, yes he's spent but man utd spend lots more but have never looked as good as this in that time. And it's not like the already good rivals like Chelsea spurs city Liverpool stopped spending either

+ He won the fa cup. I'm not saying they'll win the league I'm just saying he's done a good job since he's come in, top 4 is still the aim

        1. Digital-Real

Finishing 4th last season would have been progress. Being 9pts ahead of Spurs last season to finish 5th was a step back
They've had a good start, and perhaps peaked too soon, though, from what i've see their defence isnt as good as made out and takes one bad result for the cracks to appear.

          That's when the test starts.

          1. @persecuted_by_mods
            3 years, 12 months ago

It was a collapse but look at the injuries, and you're absolutely lying if you thought they would even have a chance of top 4 before that season started

Poch syndrome, overperforming to the point where people adjust their normal expectations

            1. Digital-Real
              • 9 Years
              3 years, 12 months ago

Never expected they would get 4th, however, when you're 9pts clear, a good manager gets it over the line, Arteta couldn't.

              1. @persecuted_by_mods
                3 years, 12 months ago

I disagree, good managers have shown what happens when they get key injuries, Klopp finished below Ole! Chelsea were right in the title mix last year until injuries, Rafa was flying with Everton until the key injuries

                  • 9 Years

Tuchel with his injury list last season got 3rd. Klopp with all his injuries still managed to get 3rd.

As I said, good managers get it over the line.

Ole has nothing to do with this topic.

                  1. @persecuted_by_mods
                    3 years, 12 months ago

They have better teams and more depth dude, the point was they dropped off compared to their normal level. You agree that you never expected them to get top 4 in the first place, so that drop off would be even worse for them!

Ole was used an example of a commonly derided manager with a poor team and managed to finish above Liverpool regarded as one of the best teams with one of the best managers, because of injuries

No. He already has Smith-Rowe waiting in the wings and has proven his worth. He's first choice and Arsenal are in good form.

There's literally no reason for Arteta to mess with this starting XI.

Smith-Rowe hasn't really been fully fit for a long while though and is quite a different player to him, preferring to play more centrally. Neto is someone that knows the league well and Arsenal have been interested in signing a winger all summer. Spending £35m+ on him surely doesn't mean he just sits on the bench?

Thats how hard is PL and thats why playing in other leagues can get a bit boring. Also it may be the reason why Bayern and PSG can fall from CL against PL sides.

PSG last 4 games, also wins:
    4-0
    5-0
    5-2
    7-1

Bayern last 4 games, also wins:
    5-3
    6-1
    2-0
    7-0

I don’t see taking hits as a negative thing as I’ve done so in the past and achieved very high GW scores through them. Of course they’re not something to do lightly possibly better applied when things become a bit more settled. I’d be interested to see the stats on hits as last season during the pandemic there seemed to be a much more widespread acceptance that they were a necessary evil.

I'm mad at myself for falling for the Foden hype, not in FPL I mean general football terms and as an England fan

Watched him closely last season and he genuinely ghosted like 85% of matches, whether City were playing well or not. Apart from his one shot where he should have crossed it he was absolutely invisible Vs Newcastle, both when city were not playing well and when they finally woke up

All 3 have their merits. I believe sustainable output will come from Harrison.
Rodrigo will be a rotation or a position risk
Aaronson is a top player but output FPL wise I wonder.

TAA | Zinchenko | Cancelo | Tripper (Neco)

    Salah | Mount | Martinelli | Maddison | (Andreas)

    Haaland | Jesus | (Archer)

    Options:

    A) Mount + TAA + Archer >> Toney + Robertson + Grob (or another £5m- ish mid) -4

    B) Mount + Archer >> Toney + Jensen

    C) Mount + TAA + Archer >> Toney + Rodrigo + Perisic -4
