We have chosen our best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players for Gameweek 5 ahead of Tuesday’s 18:00 BST deadline.

We line up in a 4-3-3 formation this week and, as ever, are limited to £83.0m for our first XI.

SCOUT PICKS CHANGES FOR 2022/23

While the maximum starting XI budget remains the same, there has been a slight change to how we nominate substitutes following our on-site poll.

FPL Gameweek 3 Scout Picks: Kane returns, Maddison in

As a result, given that our starting XI costs £83.0m, we have £17.0m to spend on the four substitutes you see on our Scout Picks graphic.

However, in an attempt to please both crowds (the poll was extremely tight after all), we’ll be giving some slightly more expensive alternatives below where appropriate, who in most cases, carry a bit more potential.

GOALKEEPER

The best FPL goalkeepers and defenders for a Gameweek 30 Free Hit

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jose Sa (£5.0m) is our chosen goalkeeper in Gameweek 5, ahead of a favourable away fixture at Bournemouth. The 29-year-old has already racked up four save points in as many matches and this week he’ll be up against a Cherries’ side struggling for goals, having failed to net since the opening day. Bruno Lage’s rear-guard have conceded just two goals in their last three matches, despite facing three decent attacks: Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

        Arsenal Pressa:

Saturday also saw the boss forced to make changes to his line-up for the first time this campaign, with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Thomas Partey struggling with knee and thigh issues respectively, and given the quick turnaround between games Arteta doesn’t expect either to be involved against Villa.

When asked if the pair could recover in time, he said: “I don't think so. We still have to make another scan, especially on Thomas, to see the length but I don't think they will be available. It is a similar area [to the one that kept Partey out last season], but hopefully not as bad.”

On Julian Alvarez replacing Haaland with six games in 18 days: "When Erling doesn't play, we will play Julian, almost sure. We are really impressed with him, his pace, his sense of goal and his work ethic."

      Doesn’t mean anything for tomorrow…

Yeah, just noticed. Too spooky for me. Think Jesus (c) is a sleeper haul.

    Who to Captain?

    A) Salah - still a bit of PTSD after last week (C) and against a decent Newcastle team at home

    B) Haaland - Red hot form against newly promoted side at home. Murmurs of benching/early sub. High risk/High Reward

    C) Jesus - Great form at home to a struggling Villa side - differential

    D) Cancelo - Home to newly promoted side that's only scored twice in 4 matches so far

Was originally tied between A & B, but like C the more I think of it. Added D for a different perspective this week and really don't hate it here.

    Where are you going?

I’ve gone Haaland (C), Salah (V). Think Haaland will be benched vs Villa and will likely get 60-65mins against NFO. But if he plays like he did last week, he might already have a hatty by the time he comes off.

75-80th minute always possible with future games in mind.

Klopp tends to leave Salah out there for his goals. including against Bournemouth when 9 nil up!

Yeah. I prefer 65mins of Haaland against NFO on the back of a hat trick, rather than 85mins of Salah against a Newcastle side who won’t be as much of a pushover as Bournemouth.

Don’t understand it either. He might be playing in a back four but if you look at his average position, he’s still basically playing as a winger.

      I find this more interesting

Conceding goals due to attacking style?
Six years, we have done like this and our levels to concede was minimal. Some destruction we have to do it, as far away from goal you are safer. We concede few chances and few goals, we'll adjust something, it's normal in that period. Always we concede few, against Palace we concede few. One corner, one free kick, one shot is brilliant. Set pieces is important,

      Issues at the back?

Always we'll concede few goals and score lots, otherwise won't win PL. We're conceding a lot, if we don't stop that will be difficult. Not all the time you can concede 2-3 goals and win. Important is the transitions and set pieces. If we don't control we will suffer.

Maybe Cancelo just ain't a good option going forward?

Him, Saliba, a Brighton defender, plus TAA and Perisic is a bit of a bargain.

Takes more transfers out to trigger a price drop when flagged, but then the flag itself probably drives more to make the switch - so kind of neutral - he's not imminently dropping.

Can someone help me with this also?
If I sell Haaland today, why do I get the price I bought him for rather than the price he is worth today?

If I swap him for Kane one week, I wouldn't be able to afford him back the next
Sell for 11.6 this week. 11.8 to buy him back.

Gundo has a great fixture this gw and a good chance he starts and hauls. But after that it’s the same anxiety before every game. Tough call.

I brought him in mainly for this game. Just need him to start this one. Might move him on for the weekend.

Worth using my FT to change my keeper from Ward to Sanchez/Henderson/Raya or roll the transfer and have 2 to play with next gameweek?

Don't want to burn a FT as I have 2FT now so thinking of removing Trippier for this GW before getting him back next GW. Who would be the best replacement for a CS this GW. 5.4ITB
