We at Fantasy Football Scout are saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

We’re aware that not all of you will be affected by the events in the United Kingdom on Thursday afternoon but as a mark of respect for those who are, we will be suspending our content for the time being.

Understandably, there is a great deal of uncertainty over the immediate sporting schedule and we will also be awaiting further guidance from the Premier League on whether (or when) this weekend’s planned fixtures will take place.

The Royal Opera House is going ahead with it's performance of Salome tonight. They cancelled last night's performance (Don Giovanni), and will cancel the performance on the day of the funeral, but if they aren't cancelling performances over the weekend, then there's no reason for the PL to do the same.

The upper classes are allowed to have nice things in this country, the rest of us aren't.

        What utter nonsense.

You can get tickets for the Royal Opera House for as little £25. People who go to the opera might not smoke 20 fags a day or have a Sky sports subscription, or a season ticket at Chelsea.

I like opera and have a Sky Sports subscription (don't smoke) and I'm certainly not upper class.

It's not the majority of opera goers though, is it? And clearly it's not being held to the same standard as mass entertainment sporting events.

As someone who goes to the ROH a fair bit for opera and ballet, I'd say the majority of people are pretty ordinary folk, and not upper class.

But my point is the moral arbiters who get to dictate what passes as showing respect. They can certainly claim to cancel a PL match as a mark of respect, but is it actually disrespectful to play the match? I don't think so, and if someone thinks it is, then they're very welcome not to watch/attend. In fact they can take the period of mourning they deem adequate, and spend that entire time not doing anything that they find pleasurable. But they shouldn't foist their moral superiority on the rest of us.

George VI’s death in 1952, which meant Elizabeth II ascended to the throne at the age of 25, did not interrupt the football calendar. Four FA Cup ties were played on the evening of George VI’s passing, while a full round of fixtures followed three days later on the Saturday.

No games were played on the day of the funeral — a Friday — but went on without interruption the following day.

Ben Stokes, the England cricket captain, said he would "be honoured to play" in the Queen's memory as sport was given the green light to continue.

However, the Premier League and Football League are undecided about whether or not to go ahead with their fixtures tonight and this weekend.

England's series-deciding third Test against South Africa is all but certain to begin on Saturday and golf at Wentworth will also now be resumed, Telegraph Sport understands.

Sporting powerbrokers were told there was "no obligation" to call off events as they met with Government on Friday morning after a host of competitions due to take place later that day were called off.

Board meetings are now taking place separately among the major sports, but it appears to be only the Premier League and English Football League who remain uncertain over their united position.

The England and Wales Cricket Board need to get final approval from South Africa and police, but look set to announce a four-day Test beginning on Saturday.

As the sporting bodies met, Stokes, the England Test captain, had tweeted about the Queen: "She loved sport, be honoured to play in her memory

I really don't see what else they could have done here, really.

Once NIFL called off their fixtures I think the EPL and EFL really had to read the room and do the same.

Whatever your stance is on the Monarchy etc, I think this is the correct course of action.

if you made 2 transfers this week and games are cancelled. Surely FPL give out a FH. It's what happened last season.

They gave out an additional FH due to random covid postponements which could be used in GW of choice as was over a longer frequently interrupted period.

This is 1 GW with no games on so everyone affected the same.

If you made transfer and or took a hit you just have to swallow that one. That's the inherit risk with early transfers - anything can happen during the week.
