Gameweek 8 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will go ahead this weekend – but there’ll only be seven Premier League matches taking place.

As feared, two further fixturesManchester United v Leeds United and Chelsea v Liverpool have been postponed because of policing resources needed in London for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which takes place next Monday.

Brighton and Hove Albion v Crystal Palace also remains off, despite the train strike that precipitated the postponement now being cancelled.

The revised Gameweek 8 schedule now looks like this (UK dates/times are listed):

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR FPL MANAGERS? INITIAL REACTION

After an opening month in which there was plenty of ‘template’ tedium and thinly veiled humble brags from FPL managers burning transfers because their squads were apparently unimprovable, we’ve now got some welcome chaos.

It’s not quite the full-on bedlam many of us had feared/hoped for, however, as there had been initial suggestions that all three London-based fixtures would be called off. That scenario would have left many of us well short of a full starting XI and prompted a lot more discussion about Wildcards and Free Hits.

As it turns out, most of us may be able to get to an 11-strong line-up without much fuss – although the lack of a fixture for Liverpool, Chelsea and Brighton in particular may be the Buckaroo moment for those FPL managers hovering over the Wildcard button.

We’ll be exploring the pros and cons of a Gameweek 8 Wildcard in a follow-up piece.

How's this look for a FH team

    Pope
    Trippier Dias Perisic Digne*
    KDB Bowen Coutinho
    Haaland Kane Isak

    Ward Neco Andreas Colback

Debating between Digne and Saliba for 4th def spot

If it's a FH then I'd go with Digne over Saliba

Cheers was leaning that way as they could both concede. Digne could grab an assist

Keeper not worth a hit. Don't you have Ward? Even so, a keeper won't average more than 4 pts in any 1 fixture so would have to be a long term move and you're not planning on WC. Would probably go Trippier over Perisic as well in a week where you want to make sure you get 11 out.. then again, good chance he plays still

i've both Salah & Trent and will be playing my wildcard in GW9. Salah just dropped a few days ago but is there a way to know who is more likely to drop (in salah's case again) between these two? I want to try to minimize the impact to my finances ahead of GW9's wildcard.

Salah having dropped once means that it's much more likely TAA drops first. Besides, Salah's only on -6% and TAA is on -87%. Not much doubt is there?!

    Pope
    Cancelo, Saliba, Williams
    Martinelli, Pereira
    Jesus, Haaland

Moves would be Salah, TAA and Stansfield to Son, Trippier and Mitro? -4 to get 11

    WC Draft:

    Pope
    Trippier Cancelo Williams
    KDB Gordon Bowen Martinelli
    Kane Haaland Mitrovic

    Iversen, Andreas, Emerson, Fofana

Would probably sell Kane in a few weeks to upgrade elsewhere or could just go Isak now.

Probably GW12. Just need to decide if having the 3 premiums for a few weeks outscores having the likes of James, Isak, Maddison.

            1. Tonyp
              • 4 Years
              3 years, 6 months ago

KDB/Williams/Gordon against for ex Foden/SaintMax/James is quite clear on paper. I’d really like to have Isak, but Kane just feels way better than Son at this stage, so ASM could be a really nice route into the good NEW fixtures from an attacking point. Then it’s Bowen versus Maddison, and that’s tight! Both come with a lot of potential but not much form. But I still like Maddison for some reason, maybe because LEI just have to score if they wanna get points, whereas WHU might depend on their defence at times…

Bowen potentially on pens makes him worth the punt for me. Do like Maddison as well though, feels like most on WC GW9 will go with him. Think I'm pretty much set on KDB so will come down to Kane or Isak and then who fills those midfield spots. Lots of tinkering ahead!

    GW 8

    Ward
    Trippier Patterson Neco Saliba
    Martinelli Andreas GROSS
    Haaland(c) Mitro Toney

    Sanchez Salah Sterling James
    1 FT .. 3.6 in the bank

Think i can get away with just Gross to a 9.4 and below mid ie Bowen (nobody else really stands out)?
Alternatively can also swap Sanchez to Pope for a -4

Salah to kdb is the easy move tbh. However, when i picture my team in GW 9 I'd rather not see gross(no Potter and poor fixtures) in it. Especially since i can afford almost any mid for him. Foden is interesting too.
