Who are the best player picks for Gameweek 8 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL)?

Fantasy Football Scout contributors Sam, Neale, Tom and Az each have their own ideas ahead of Friday’s deadline, revealing their thoughts below.

The postponement of three Premier League matches and the absence of Messrs Salah, Alexander-Arnold, Diaz, James et al means there is a smaller pool of players to choose from, so we’ve got more consensus selections than usual – especially up front.

ABOUT THE SCOUT SQUAD

Everything you ever wanted to know about the FPL Bonus Point System - part one

In this series, our four resident writers each propose an 18-man squad of Fantasy players with the focus solely on the upcoming Gameweek.

Their selections serve as a long list for the Scout Picks, as the players nominated will then be narrowed down to a squad of 15 (with the starting XI not exceeding a total cost of £83.0m) for our final weekly selection ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

Each writer must meet the following requirements:

  • At least one sub-£5.0m goalkeeper
  • At least one sub-£5.0m defender
  • At least one sub-£6.0m midfielder
  • At least one sub-£7.0m forward
  • No more than three players from the same club

To be honest Kane is great option for captain

City probably will have tough game against wolves? What do you think ?

Wolves have often troubled City over the years, Nunes has settled in really quickly and looks great, I do think they'll give them a good game

A lot of people are suddenly keen on KDB. He was already in great form so is that just moving off Mo?

With Mo not playing he's an easy switch with 1 transfer. Kane is the other premium option, but I guess people have forwards they're happy with and it would be 2 transfers to get the money up front.

For the most part I think so, at least that's the spot I'm in. I'd just go straight to Zaha but need the extra man this week so it's a 2 week punt, basically between him and Gordon, going for Gordon over him seems silly on paper but I do think he may do well but hard to justify the choice

With out haaland, I could see a draw with haaland. Who knows he’s a freak of nature. Kanes a good shout but got wooped 2-0 at the death in the cl. Hatrick haaland incoming lol. Hope not though.

Gross -> 7.1m or under mids
Any suggestions for 1 week punt. Been looking mainly at ASM but unsure if he'll be bit fit on time.

I'm sitting on a -8 and very close to just hitting the WC button.

What would you do? Is this team worth hanging onto? WC13 is the plan.

    Pope
    Cancelo Trippier Saliba
    Martinelli Gordon Andreas Gundogan
    Haaland Jesus Mitrovic
    (Ward Salah Cucurella James)

The team looks really good from GW9 onwards but the swing from this week could be significant enough that I have to WC to keep the 8 points plus KdB for one week before I go back to Salah.

I think wc this week is the right option. But build with future gws in mind.

Who would be on your list for a wc 13?

Very similar to what I already have:

        Pope Ward
        Cancelo Trippier James Cucurella Emerson
        KdB Zaha Martinelli Gordon Andreas
        Haaland Mitrovic Toney

Money ITB for KdB > Salah in 9. And the team is pretty much ready to roll. I basically moved my planned transfers of Jesus + Gundo > Toney + Zaha up early on the WC.

I like it. I’m In a similar position. Can’t see past Isak or Toney instead of Kane. They offer much better value

Not in a bad state, but Not -8 imo when you have a w/c
I have hit w/c which i wanted to do gw9 , had 6 and out and would be playing like’s of ward
Can bench a James, Diaz zaha etc
Will be getting unlimited transfers in anther 8 weeks, not like this w/c has to last for near the end of season for dgws etc

I am with 12 playing players so will hold on

What do you predict for Gundo this GW?

On WC, best use of the remaining four spots? £27.5m to spend.

    Pope, Iverson
    Cancelo, Trippier, James, Neco, xxx
    KDB, Martinelli, Andreas, xxx, xxx
    Haaland, Mitro, xxx

    A) Perisic, Gordon, Bailey, Kane (433 playing one of Gordon, Bailey or Andreas)
    B) Patterson, Zaha, Bailey, Kane (flexible between 433 & 343)
    C) Patterson, Maddison, Diaz/Bowen, Toney (343)
    D) Coufal, Maddison, Zaha, Toney (343 most weeks. £0.8m ITB for flexibility)

With ASM likely injured I’ll be going Gordon or Bailey deep with my -4. Otherwise I’ll be WC! Which one and why?

    A. WC;

    Pope

    Cancelo, Tripps, Digne

    KDB, Maddi/Bowen, Martinelli, Pereira
Haaland, Mitro, Isak
    (Ward, Neco, Zaha*, James*)

    B. -4 Team;

    Ward
    Cancelo, Tripps, Neco

KDB, Gordon/Bailey, Martinelli, Pereira

    Haaland, Mitro, Jesus
    (Sanchez*, Gross*, TAA*, James*)

Which WC draft is better A or B? Cheers!

    A)

    Raya
    Cancelo - Trippier - Neco
    KDB - Son - Zaha - Martinelli
    Haaland - Isak - Mitrović

    (Iverson) - (Andreas - Patterson - Emerson)

    B)

    Pope
    Cancelo - R. James - Trippier
    KDB - Zaha - Martinelli - Bailey
    Haaland - Kane - Mitrović

    (Ward) - (Andreas - Neco - Emerson)

    1. George Agdgdgwngo

Latest WC draft feels like it could be a goer. £0.7 ITB to move KDB to Salah in one move should I want him straight back. Saka will very likely become Zaha in GW10. Toying with Coufal + Isaak vs Emerson + Toney. What do we reckon?

    Pope
    Cancelo - Trippier - Coufal
    Saka - Martinelli - Maddison - KDB
    Haaland (c) - Mitro - Isaak

    Subs: Iversen; Andreas, Neco, James

Just getting back from my trip to the UK - while I had planned to go see Liverpool v Wolves and Leeds v Forest, I got to tour Anfield, rented a car and drove all over Scotland, enjoyed several awesome rounds of golf, explored and saw 10+ cities. While a disappointment, was a great trip! I can come back another time and watch football. Thanks for the condolences on the timing of the trip!

With this said, I’m currently on this with 2FT and 1.8itb

    Ward
    Cancelo Williams Saliba
    Gundo Martinelli Andreas
    Haaland Mitrovic

WC, or go Trent + Salah > Trippier and Isak/Toney and call it a day with 11 playing? Leaning towards a WC given no KDB.

Yes Wildcard but do it with games until cup in mind, not just this week. Find a better keeper. I’d keep Trent and see what happens this weekend with Newcastle backfield. I’ve been on Toney for awhile and he’s a potential season guy for me.

Hear ya on Toney! While I can “get by” with 11 this week and no hits, I do agree it’s probably a good opportunity to WC regardless of current team.

And for sure, Zaha and Madders both my favorite midfield options and should do well over the next 4-6 weeks.

Ummm. What. Anyway.. Moyes doesn't play a 5-3-2 that often. When he does Emerson is a great option. However, more often than not it's a 4-2-3-1 with
Bowen Paqueta Fornals/Benrahma/Lanzini taking up the attacking mid positions and Antonio/scamacca upfront. Considering he has those 7 options i can't see him sacrificing a spot for a 5-3-2 that often and expect 4 ATB more often than not.

#2 striker in the game with multiple routes to goal (incl. free kicks), in a "free scoring" team (only City have scored more this season), with quite favourable fixtures climb up.

I went Toney over Isak and Mitro. I don't believe Fulham are offensively strong enough to warrant having 2 of their forward players (I have Andreas). Granted, I would rather have Mitro than Andreas - but can't address that without using my WC. And Isak is still an unknown quantity for me - lots of hype but what happens when Wilson returns?

Im a sucker for undepriced players.. can afford Bowen/Foden/Maddison but i may actually end up going with Gordon. He is definitely worth a lot more than 5.5. He has looked as good as any of the 7 mill+ players this season. Only thing is everton will probably score 0 to 1 goals a game.. so even if he is involved in everything they do his ceiling will be a lot lower vs a Bowen/foden who's teams can easily put 3 to 4 past certain teams. I dont get Maddison though and think Gordon is far better value than him.. he and leicester are just awful. Rodgers looks like he is purposely making horrid decisions so he gets fired with a payout at the moment.

Haha. I just wrote a 500 word essay on Bowen on the previous page. I love the guy. Would have been all over Foden/Saka if not for the GW 12 blank. Leicester look absolutely horrid though and i can't see any way back for them until Rodgers gets sacked.

Maddison has been in the points this season, Leic are poor, but have scored in all but one of their games , better fixtures to come after this week, worth a punt I think

Probably. My head hurts watching them off late though. Championship level football..that being said they do have the quality in attack to score loads of goals. Could be a good punt from next week after scouting him and leicester spurs away(so no rush to get him)

If you are not playing him every week Bailey is a better bet me thinks

Bowen playing for a team that can easily score 3 or 4?

Yes.. i can see West ham smashing teams like Bournemouth/NFO etc. But i can't see everton doing it. People are extrapolating 6 weeks of data as gospel and are assuming west hams attack is poor.. probably the unluckiest team in the league with the chances off the post and goal disallowed atm. Also, new signings bedding in. Can see a lot of high scoring games over the next run of fixtures

What are your thoughts on Paquetá?

Wondering if he’s worth a cheeky punt this week with 2FT before WC?

It’s either him or get Pope tonight before he rises in price (planned to get Trippier, but I have Botman already so I could hold off of Tripps until tomorrow nights WC).

I like Gordon a lot myself, still contemplating getting him over KDB for the next 2 weeks only which seems very silly on the face of it. But he's passed the eye test, stats are good and DCL may be back this weekend so I think he could be a nice option

I can either swap sterling/Salah for kdb.. but I'm going the gross to Gordon/foden route too...so I'm similar lol

Depends what you intend to do.

I’m planning to swap out Jesus for Toney on WC so that I can afford Zaha.

I think Toney and Zaha will outscore Jesus and Groß over that period.

Many selling Diaz this week because he blanks but content to bring in Zaha to sit on the bench despite him having a poor fixture in GW10.

Is this classic FPL overthinking any not playing what’s in front of you for fear of not booking in a transfer?

Will be on Saka myself and then plan to switch out for Zaha in GW10.

Good evening all!! Still unsure what to do this week, only 9 players, my initial plan for this week was TAA and Jesus to Kane and Patterson(exact money) but that feels I bit too indulgent now!! Have zero in the bank and only 1FT too, so advance Warmly welcomed!!! Hoping on Brighton attack for Leicester, Bournemouth and Palace have left me a bit short now!! Bad luck tho!!

    Ward
    Cancelo Neco Trippier
    Martinelli Andreas
    Haaland Jesus Mitrovic
Subs- Sanchez Salah TAA, James Trossard Gross

Who are the best 2 mids this week only under £8m

    a) Foden
    b) Silva
    c) Maddison
    d) Bowen
    e) Saka
    f) ?

    1. Valar(Keith)

If you have a spot for a 3rd arsenal player/don't mind their tough fixtures/can handle the blank GW 12 then Saka is a brilliant consistent all season long bet.

If you can handle being pepped once in a while(and can manage GW12) then foden looks like the second best option. Looks like one of the first names on his team sheet in the PL this season. Same with Silva .. though i think the upside vs risk is higher with foden

I love Bowen but with the new attacking options coming in to West ham(paq/scamacca/cornet) he may not be given as long a rope as he is usually given. Probably still about 0.5 overpriced for me while i could argue that the above two are atleast 0.5 underpriced.

It's a Shame Zaha has no fixture this week.. I'd prefer him over all of them.

If you watch Arsenal you'll see Saka is playing much wider this year. Won't be involved in the box as much as last year. Avoid him at the price (I had him for first 4gws)
