The Scoreboard presents all the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) numbers you need from Saturday’s matches all on one screen.

As well as LiveFPL‘s rundown of the goals, assists and bonus points from the day’s FPL action, we’re bringing you a selection of the Opta stats that arrive in our Premium Members Area almost immediately after full-time in each fixture.

Our usual Scout Notes article, which summarises more of the main FPL talking points, notable manager quotes and injury news in extra detail, will follow.

BRIEF ROUND-UP

FPL Gameweek 8: Saturday’s goals, assists, bonus and statistics 9

Erling Haaland (£12.0m) made it 11 goals for the season with a strike in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over 10-man Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday lunchtime but he was outscored by Gameweek 8 captaincy alternatives Kevin De Bruyne (£12.3m), Harry Kane (£11.4m) and even second-half Tottenham Hotspur substitute Son Heung-min (£11.7m), who all bagged double-digit hauls.

De Bruyne provided two assists – his fifth and sixth of 2022/23 – to move top of the FPL midfielders’ points table, while Kane avoided a blank for the sixth straight match. Son scored a sensational hat-trick after coming on as a 59th-minute substitute, meanwhile, ending his goal drought in spectacular style as bottom-of-the-table Leicester City were thrashed 6-2.

The Foxes were abject defensively again but James Maddison (£7.9m) warmed up for Leicester’s favourable fixture swing nicely with a goal, topping the non-penalty expected goal involvement (NPxGI) table in Gameweek 8 so far.

Ivan Perisic (£5.6m) and Kieran Trippier (£5.3m) underscored their attacking potential with an assist apiece, compensating for clean sheet losses in their respective matches. Perisic somehow ended up with just two points, however, with a 54th-minute withdrawal compounded by a yellow card dished out for on-field encroachment after he was substituted.

Alexander Isak (£7.0m) and Youri Tielemans (£6.3m) were both on target from the spot for their teams on Saturday but the regulars penalty-takers of both Newcastle United and Leicester were off the field at the time; it remains to be seen if Isak has shunted the injured Callum Wilson (£7.2m) down the pecking order on Tyneside.

I think you were around back when I was addicted to this game - how have you fared the last few seasons? There's 3x more players than when I was coming top 1k lol

It's just a bloody game Rupert. On another day we go with Son on WC and he comes on for a 1 pointer. Scoring 3 goals from 4 shots on target - how often will this happen? It simply was his day, or let's say 20 minutes. I considered him for the whole week and even watched the game against Sporting. All I needed was 1 goal from him to convince me he may be worth it, but he looked hopeless and didn't impress. I just couldn't justify picking him over de Bruyne (who I own since the 1st day) no matter how hard I tried.

KDB over Son was the correct call. It was a highly unlikely event, especially the goals he scored.

    Any suggestions?

I guess the template will have Son / KDB / James and not Salah / Trent. Chelsea options going to be more attractive in the coming weeks.

    Pope
    Cancelo - Trippier - Struijk
    KDB - Sterling - Groß - Martinelli
    Haaland - Mitrovic - Toney
    (Ward - Saliba - Andreas - Neco)

Thanks. Seems the most logical move. But, considering I have to sell KDB anyway before GW12, I could as well get Salah in, while the Salah fire sale continues. Meaning, I can do both A and B.

A is unfavorable for me (Groß falls and Maddison rises).
B is favorable (KDB rises and Salah falls).

Maddison does not play in the IB, so less chances of injury. Think I will make the move for A to catch some price changes. If something goes wrong, I have another FT and a relatively strong bench to mitigate. If something really terrible happens, then the FPL towers will change rules.

            1. Sheffield Wednesday
              • 5 Years
              3 years, 6 months ago

Yes, sorry, meant wait for B as price changes will be favourable. I'd complete A before negative price swings, but that's just how I play and the early transfer often backfires for me.

I understand. But over the past few years, late transfers have not been rewarded (and often punished) by the FPL towers. So, I will rather go for the early transfer. I am sure they will bail out the players if something really terrible happens.

      Struijk is an interesting choice.
I’d do Gross to Maddy. With the leftover money, you can then afford better attacking def option for Struijk

Struijk is attacking, check his numbers. Definitely has goals and assists in him. Will play him in the Villa game next week, but I am expecting him to return more points against Leicester when Arsenal / City blanks in GW12.

Agree. Watching Newcastle, to me they need three things:

      - A better LB
      - A creative CM (I think James Ward-Prowse would be ideal)
      - A playmaking AM (Maddison)

      Pope
      Trippier Botman Burn ?????
      Ward-Prowse* Guimaraes Joelinton
      Maddison* Isak Saint-Maximin

You would then have the creative / continuity passer in JWP, the tackling of Guimaraes, and the workrate of Joelinton in midfield.

You would have the attacking passer in Maddison, the ball runner in Saint-Maximin, and the finisher in Isak.

KDB, Haaland, Cancelo, Ederson seems to be the FPL options from the City team. You may get lucky with Foden, Grealish, Bernardo, Mahrez, Walker, Ake but it depends from week-to-week starting lineups. I don't like that headache. So, basically its your choice really.

But why hold Son this GW when everyone expected him to be benched? And if you did, why was he even on your bench and needed moving into the first XI?

Lots of sob stories on here and sometimes people find them hard to believe.

Anyway, at least you still have him and don't need to worry about the next price rise, while the lemmings stampede to knee-jerk him in.

I didn’t hold - I transferred him in for salah to get 11 players out as I’m wildcarding gw9 so went for a punt

Salah was on my bench when planning my week to see the blanks. Made my transfer for Son. Obviously didn’t press confirm/save when swapping my bench player for Andreas and now have 1 point from my bench fodder player instead of my lovely 12 mil player sitting on my bench with 19 points

Always double-check your team, and don't leave it too late. Same happened to me gw 6 when I switched robbo to Rashford right before the deadline. Thought it saved but it didn't, was staring at a 17 pointer on the bench. Funnily it was the one week also Patterson kept a clean sheet...against liverpool.

    Hold WC?

    Ramsdale

    Iverson Perisic Reed Neco

But hold for when? Only 5 more GWs before you get another WC and this one lapses.

At least take advantage of any price rises over the IB.

And you may only need one starting player on your bench.

      Perisic too risky.
      Patterson better than Neco.
      Double Fulham Mids?
Jesus fixtures about to turn and he's gone off the boil anyway.

      So get on with it!

Exactly. If we didn't have to play WC until 26 Dec I would hold mine, as team decent and don't 'need' that many transfers.

Depends how many goals he was responsible for. In my book, most of Spurs goals were bad defending more than goalie error. Iversen is not that good tbf. Ward is an International goalie, put him in front of a better team and he is decent.

Which is a huge upside in my opinion, given that City and Arsenal players are scoring loads of points. After GW12, you can bring back 3 City + 3 Arsenal and win. 🙂

Yes, that's the idea. City, Arsenal and Liverpool have strong fixtures from 13 to 16. Getting 9 players from those teams should provide loads of points.

I think 6 are enough 2 each and for that WC is not really critical as you may have already 4 GW12 with 2 on the bench (MCI ARS). With 2 FT you'll have 6 and gradually add if needed.

Made a team to catch the risers - especially ones who I might want, doesn't look too bad:

    Pope / Iversen
    Cancelo / James / Trippier / Dier / Patterson
    KDB / Maddison / Marti / Zaha / Andreas
    Haaland / Mitro / Isak

Probably won't end up far from that with my final WC team tbh. Maybe just swap Dier for someone more beneficial, and I am not a fan of double NEW defence so might find another GK.

Is there anyone who I am missing that I should shoehorn in for rises? Son is the only one I can think of who might fly a little off his hattrick but hard to get him, KDB, Haaland etc in the team.

Trippier is a really good FPL player. Think he hit the post today too. Doesn't need too many CS with his trickle of attacking returns.
