Throughout the 2022/23 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, our team of Pro Pundits, Hall of Famers and guest contributors will be sharing their thoughts, tips and own transfer plans.

Only Premium Members are able to read every single one of these pieces, so sign up today to get full access not just to the editorial content but all of the other benefits, from hundreds of Opta stats to a transfer planner.

Here, two-time Indian FPL champion Lateriser looks at the three-way battle for our services that the premium midfielders face.

The FFS Pro Pundits 34

I think a lot of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are facing a big decision with their second premium option, the first, of course, being Erling Haaland (£12.0m).

I was very curious about this myself, especially since I have the option of either holding Kevin De Bruyne (£12.3m) for Gameweek 9 or shifting to either Mohamed Salah (£12.9m) or Son Heung-min (£11.7m).

A lot of FPL managers (including myself) often take the ‘Mo is Mo’ stance, but the question is: is he?

We do know that he’s not quite been the ‘King of FPL’ since the second half of last season and I wanted to make sense of this, so decided to look at the numbers. Before we look deeper into the table below, it is worth noting that there is an element of fatigue associated with Salah in the second half of 2021/22 after his sustained game-time at the African Cup of Nations. Liverpool, meanwhile, haven’t quite hit their stride as a team this season. That’s giving a fairly long leash to him but I do think that Salah deserves the goodwill, given what he’s done in FPL in the last few years.

So, let’s look at the numbers.

SALAH v DE BRUYNE v SON: THE UNDERLYING NUMBERS

This week on our stream, we break down the big hitters and look at the Gameweek 9 to 16 stretch in the company of Burning Questions co-host and Gameweek 9 Wildcarder, Pras.

Arsenal vs Tottenham hasn't been goalless since 2009. Most games have 3+ goals in em. Keep everything you have of Ars/Tot attacking assets imo.

    Who to play:
    A)Saliba against Spurs
    or
    B)Andreas against Newcastel

You’d be relying on a Saliba brace so Andreas.

Was going to hold Diaz, however he played 90 mins this morning for Colombia in America, I know he has time to get back and train but it surely puts him in doubt with the other forward options Liverpool have.

Maybe slightly... I dont know if its because I originally thought the game was Wed night (Thurs morning), but now I feel like Tues - Sat isn't that bad a turnaround even with a long flight & Diaz has looked kind of undroppable recently. I'm not convinced that Klopp will risk rotating his first choice when they really need to get some momentum going

Morning folks. I WC'd last GW, 0 ITB.

    Pope
    Cancelo James Trippier
    KDB Maddison Martinelli Zaha
    Haaland Mitrovic Isak*
    Iversen // Perisic Andreas Neco

A tad aggrieved I punted on Peresic last week as means can't do the Isak > Toney move for free, but considering it may have been Patterson instead... swings and roundabouts (still would have preferred though).

    A) Save FT : Bench Isak, play Peresic
    B) Save FT : Bench Isak, play Andreas
    C) -4 : Isak/Peresic > Toney/4.6m DEF*

4.6M as I plan to leave some money for Salah.

Only issue with C is I don't love the defensive options this week, and I'll be benching them as a result.

I would probably take the hit if you would be buying Toney next week anyway as you'll miss the plum fixture otherwise. If not, start Perisic (as an attacker)

Do you really really need Salah over Son this week (for a hit), is a question I'd ask. Can understand selling Neto but how much does it leave you to upgrade to?

Can't say you definitely need a WC. Would have to see proposed team.

Jesus to Toney looks like such a no brainer. Toney is on pens, plays in 12 and has the worst opposition this week. Whilst Jesus blanks in 12 and has Liverpool next week.

Somehow my gut is still saying don’t do it mainly from eye test and seeing how Jesus is playing out of his skin. Anyone else in the same boat?

Very annoyed with myself for missing the Toney price rise last night. It didn't look like he was going to rise last night on fplstatistics, the lack of risers and fallers in the last few days enabled complacency to creep in. fplstatistics doesn't seem the reliable source it once was.

One can only imagine how much work is put into fplstatistics and Ragabolly post the updates on here without fail.

On WC and tinkering with 2 drafts, with either Kane or Toney. Isak was the fall guy so I should have just switched him to Toney knowing full well that isak was injured.....I'm blaming myself btw not fplstatistics algorithm
