We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from Leicester City v Nottingham Forest in our Scout Notes summary.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL and our own Premium Members Area, where you can access Opta player and team data for every single Premier League fixture.

It has been a rotten start to the season for Leicester City, but their campaign is finally up and running after beating rivals Nottingham Forest 4-0 on Monday.

In a much-needed win, James Maddison (£8.0m) was the star of the show, producing 18 points, courtesy of two goals, an assist and maximum bonus.

The playmaker had a lot of joy drifting into central areas from the right, where he was able to find space between the lines. Indeed, he racked up 42 final-third touches – at least 12 more than any player on the pitch – and was outstanding with his use of the ball, creating four chances for his teammates.

Above: James Maddison’s touch heatmap v Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 9

“My strength is being between the lines, so we worked a lot on me being able to pick up on those pockets. I think that’s something I’ve improved on massively tactically. But I can’t just run around wherever I want, the Gaffer allows me freedom but not that much! You can see on my face just how much it means. That first goal was crucial for us.” – James Maddison

Harvey Barnes (£6.9m) and Patson Daka (£5.7m) were also on the scoresheet, with the latter a second-half substitute for Jamie Vardy (£9.2m), who recorded a first-half assist, his first attacking return since Gameweek 4.

Danny Ward (£4.0m), meanwhile, retained his place in goal despite conceding 11 goals in his previous two outings, and repaid his manager’s faith by keeping his first clean sheet of 2022/23. He even managed save/bonus points!

“It’s been too long [since they last won] but I thought we were excellent tonight, with our intensity and pressing in the game. It was a great night for the players and brilliant for the fans. I said if we could get a result tonight then we could push on.

We’ve got a lot of technically gifted players but you can’t win football matches without the desire to win the game. In key moments in other games we haven’t defended well but we have tonight and we’ve kept a clean sheet, which is also very important.” – Brendan Rodgers

Prior to tonight, the Foxes had lost six league games in a row, although five of those were against sides currently in the top six – Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

Now, tonight’s win could be a turning point, with a favourable run of fixtures – Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers – coming up.

As for Nottingham Forest, the season started brightly for the Championship play-off winners, but they have now lost five matches in a row, conceding three or more in each of the last four.

They did hit the post through Taiwo Awoniyi (£5.8m) at the King Power, but then conceded three times in a crazy 10-minute period.

Steve Cooper is at least trying to find solutions, moving from his usual 3-4-2-1 formation to a 4-2-3-1 on Monday, but that switch did have implications for budget defender Neco Williams (£4.1m).

As an attacking wing-back, the youngster had produced 15 shots across his first seven appearances, more than any other FPL defender. However, tonight, he was restricted to just four final-third touches, before he was replaced by Serge Aurier (£4.5m) at half-time, having already been booked.

“We are going through difficult moments you normally look at in pre-season and we are having to go through that process in the most difficult league in the world. It’s tough at the moment, I won’t shy away from that.

I’ll believe in them until the end. I will never say they are not good enough as that will have a negative effect. But at the same time we need to be much better.

This is a fresh challenge for us. Some of the guys have only met each other these last couple of weeks. That’s the realism of the situation and something we have to deal with. At the moment we are getting punished because of periods in games where we are not a team and key moments as well.” – Steve Cooper

Leicester City XI: Ward; Castagne, Evans, Faes, Justin; Ndidi (Soumare 45), Tielemans (Praet 80), Dewsbury-Hall; Maddison (Albrighton 85), Barnes, Vardy (Daka 62)

Nottingham Forest XI: Henderson; Williams (Aurier 45), Cook, McKenna, Lodi; Kouyate (Freuler 45), O’Brien (Yates 45); Johnson, Gibbs-White, Lingard (Mangala 69); Awoniyi (Dennis 62)

    Which is better?

    A) Kane + Trossard
    B) Sterling + Maddison + 0.9m

    Cheers!

    1FT, £0.2m

    Pope - Ward
    Trent - Trippier - Saliba - Struijk - Neco
    KDB - Sterling - Maddison - Martinelli - Andreas
    Haaland - Toney - Mitrovic

Is selling Trent the priority here or would you suggest some other transfer?

So Haaland has 17 goal involvement in 8 pl starts. Have we ever seen such an explosive spell in FPL history?

Yes. Suarez had 26 in his first 12 pl starts in 13/14 season (19g 7a / with 9 double digit hauls in that period).

Crazy numbers considering he didn't take a single pen.

Any ideas what I could do with this squad? Trent and mitrovic are my Main problems, but I'd love to get mads in but I only have 1 ft , do I take mitro out and bring in bench fodder and upgrade to mads in midfield? Keep Trent for another week?

    Sanchez
    Taa, tripper, James, saliba
    Martinelli, Harrison, kdb
    Mitrovic, haaland, Kane

He's playing class but not reflected in FPL points. His goal threat dropping makes him too pricy when likes of Madisson, Zaha, Foden, Bernardo and possibly Bowen, Rodrigo, Rashford and Antony give scope for an upgrade elsewhere.

Decided to commit to KDB + Bailey > Maddison + another mid priced midfielder. Obviously don't want to lose KDB but can't go without Maddison for his fixtures

    Who gets the honour?

    A. Foden (and just bench for GW12)
    B. Trossard
    C. Bowen

    Ramsdale (Ward)
    TAA Trippier Cancelo Neco
    KDB Diaz Martinelli Andreas
    Haaland Toney

    Bench:
    Patterson - injured
    Neto - injured
    Mitro - injured

Given the injuries on the bench and 5 city/arsenal players who blank GW22 would you agree to WC this? I was planning on wildcarding GW13 but got slammed in my league this week - 1st to 4th due to people in my league having Maddison and foden. I got 1 point from TAA Cancelo Mitro Toney and Neco. Can’t ship out enough players by GW12 to field a squad in GW12 anyway.

Is Kane essential? Looking at either Haaland/Kane/Mitro up front or just Kane/Haaland and a dud sticker (archer) and downgrading KDB to get Bowen, Zaha, Maddy, Martinelli, Foden in midfield

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Is 3 up top really the best way forward now?

Looking at the points totals of all forwards, only 6 have more than 30 points with those outside of those 6 seeming to be more like hopeful punts than anything solid. There's a shallow pool of forwards to choose from compared to the options in midfield where there are plenty of decent priced midfielders who are getting points.

Of those forwards that have been getting good points, Haaland obviously takes up one spot. Firmino is deemed too much of a rotation risk and understandably has low ownership. This leaves Kane (premium priced), Toney (blows hot and cold), Jesus (has an upcoming blank and 1 yellow away from a suspension) and Mitro (currently injured). Think 2 from that lot to go alongside Haaland may be too much and the funds are better spread around the midfield (and maybe the defence) over having 3 starting forwards

I'm seriously thinking to moving back to 2 starting forwards and a fodder forward and packing the midfield where there are much more better options.

Thoughts on 3 up top being or not being the way to go?

I have been considering it, but at the same time would like to bring back Jesus in a few game weeks.

      Haaland / Kane / Jesus

Also having two up top means having a non playing sub.

      1. House Frey Wedding Planner
        • 7 Years
        3 years, 5 months ago

The non playing sub is only really an issue for gw12 where City and Arsenal blank. Most other weeks the 3rd sub will unlikely be called upon

Im in the same boat, deciding on WC whether to go

      A) haaland kane
      B) haaland mitro and toney
      C) haaland mitro/toney

Can stack the midfield with players who are getting decent points/good fixtures without Kane

    Bowen

    (1) the assist? Was not an assist. That was a gift to Bowen owners
    (2) the goal? Pretty good goal but 50% set up by error

Why am I being a Hayter?

Caused I sold him this week for Maddison, my rank probably dropped a bit cause of Bowen's Leche and Fortuna this week

Do I sign Bowen again? Or get Zaha?

    Diaz or Trossard?

Is having no LFC the way to go having arguably their two toughest fixtures of the season coming up? They are still scoring goals but how many are on the cards vs Ars and City?

Then reassess LFC assets after GW12.

    Thoughts?

I'm very much leaning away from 3 forwards (see my post above). Maybe go for one of the 5.3 Palace forwards and use the funds to bolster the midfield.

Jesus is probably the easiest transfer as his price hasn't risen sufficiently so he's easy to get back if you need to plus he's 1 yellow away from a suspension anyway
