The pre-match press conferences have started ahead of Gameweek 10 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

We’ll be covering all of the key manager quotes from these pressers over the next two days, starting with this round-up of Thursday’s injury news.

Five managers will be facing reporters this afternoon, with Erik ten Hag fulfilling his media duties after Manchester United’s UEFA Europa League tie tonight – although the ‘Gameweek 10’ part of that press conference will be embargoed until the following day.

We had been due to hear from Antonio Conte on Thursday, too, but that will no longer be the case after it was announced that Tottenham Hotspur’s fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone had passed away. It remains to be seen if Conte’s media commitments are to be rescheduled ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

The other 13 bosses look set to hold pressers on Friday, meanwhile.

KEY UPDATES

ASTON VILLA

Steven Gerrard confirms that Ludwig Augustinsson (hamstring) will be out for around three weeks, joining fellow left-back Lucas Digne (heel) on the sidelines.

Matty Cash (hamstring) is available and Calum Chambers (appendix) has a “decent chance” of being involved against Nottingham Forest but Leon Bailey (muscle) is a doubt.

Diego Carlos (Achilles) and Boubacar Kamara (knee) are long-term absentees.

“Matty Cash is back in full training and he’s available for Nottingham Forest. Calum Chambers has done half of the session today and he’ll continue to pick training up from now until Monday. He’s got a decent chance to be involved.

“Ludwig Augustinsson will be out for around three weeks – he’s got a hamstring injury on the back of the Leeds game. We’ve also got Leon Bailey, who has got a small muscle issue. He’s a doubt for the weekend but he’s not totally ruled out.

“In terms of Lucas Digne, it’s a complicated one that’s going to rumble on for a few more weeks before we can assess it. I’ll have some news on Digne in a couple of weeks, but he won’t be available for Forest.” – Steven Gerrard

LEICESTER CITY

Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi will be out for a few weeks with a minor hamstring strain.

Papy Mendy also has an issue with his knee and will struggle to be fit for this weekend’s trip to Bournemouth.

“In terms of the squad, Wilfred Ndidi will probably be out for a little bit. He came back from international duty with a hamstring strain. He recovered well but he felt it at half-time in the game and he was a little sore, so he might miss a few weeks.

“Papy Mendy has an issue with his knee so may struggle for the weekend but everyone else should be fine. It was just a clash of knees in training. The doctor and medical team said this morning it’ll be highly unlikely for him to be involved at the weekend but hopefully, he’ll be back after that.” – Brendan Rodgers

SOUTHAMPTON

Ralph Hasenhuttl is hopeful of having Juan Larios and Adam Armstrong available for the trip to Manchester City after the pair picked up minor injuries, while a couple of players affected by illness should also be fine.

Tino Livramento (knee) is out until 2023 and Romeo Lavia (muscle) is still a few weeks away from a return

“The team news, as I said, we’ve had a few players that have not trained the whole week. We had some issues with Arma and Juan with small injuries but they should be available for the weekend.

“One or two players have been out with a little bit of illness but they have also been back on the pitch today so the group, so far, is together like it was.” – Ralph Hasenhuttl

BRENTFORD

Thomas Frank has ruled Pontus Jansson out of Brentford’s match against Newcastle with a hamstring injury.

Sergi Canos is fit enough to return to the squad after struggling with a hamstring issue of his own, while Ethan Pinnock is available but lacking in match sharpness.

Christian Norgaard (Achilles) and Keane Lewis-Potter (foot) remain unavailable: the former is aiming to return before November, while the latter is already back running but not yet training with the first team.

BOURNEMOUTH

Gary O’Neil says Joe Rothwell (thigh), Ben Pearson (knee) and Ryan Fredericks (unspecified) have all “trained well” ahead of the visit of Leicester City on Saturday.

Lloyd Kelly (ankle) remains sidelined, while Junior Stanislas (muscle) also looks set to miss out.

Foden. Cant see anything but a continiation of that form from him. Southampton could be easily embarrassed off the pitch in first 20 mins - then it'll be open season again.

FWIW I've just brought both in on WC.

The average lifespan of a domestic horse is 20 to 30 years. Many horses go well beyond this average. Ponies tend to live longer, with many ponies still serving as schoolmasters well into their 30s. A few ponies and horses may even reach the age of 40 or over.

      Congrats!

2FT and used WC a couple of GWs ago. Struggling what to do here. Patterson, Bailey and Mitro the issues. Which do you prefer?

    A) KDB & Bailey > Maddison & Foden
    B) Patterson & Bailey > Guehi & £4.5m mid

Out of 15 players, 6 you can’t play in GW12 + you have 2 injury doubts (Mitro and Bailey)
      Therefore E.

Asking for a friend of course.

If said friend had 3 City, 2 Arsenal + Neco and Bailey. Would you consider just wildcarding before GW12? Can imagine sorting transfers out to make it 3 City/Arsenal combined then Bailey being injured and Neco dropped.

    Haaland TC anyone?

I know it's usually a DGW lock in but form of his life and rested at HT yesterday. If he has a DGW later in the season would be play much more than 90mins if City have the FA Cup and UCL fixture congestion?

    1. FPL Brains
      • Has Moderation Rights
      4 years, 19 days ago

I think most worth their salt will be holding out for a DGW, even if he plays 30mins in the second game (in theory) he's more than capable of scoring a hatful. You won't have that luxury playing him in a single.

      1. Boz
        4 years, 19 days ago

That's a good point. Better to spread the risk over potentially 180mins than 90mins max

Have 2 FT's but nothing ITB.

Given the Bailey news I need to generate funds from somewhere to be able to upgrade him, as such I am thinking Cancelo & Bailey to 4.9m defender + Barnes. Thoughts?

    1. Bennerman
      4 years, 19 days ago

Also shifting Bailey and likely going for Barnes – Maddison was first choice, then Zaha, but it's likely to be Barnes due to price.

In my case, it's Walker I am also moving on as part of the double change.

      1. ShaunGoater123
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        4 years, 19 days ago

yeah feels like Barnes is a nice difference vs Maddison if can't get to him price wise.

Who are you moving Walker on for?

I'm thinking of going for a 4.4 defender (annoying Fofana got injured!) leaving 0.5 ITB for KDB > Salah in 2 weeks

        1. Bennerman
          4 years, 19 days ago

I do think Barnes has good prospects, yeah – scored a nice goal obviously, so buoyed by that and presumably stays in the team. Great fixtures, of course.

Walker was going to be Fofana to build funds for changes elsewhere, but Fofana injury appears to have ruined that approach (annoying, yeah) so I'm going to go to James. Goes against my longer-term money-finding plan, but can't argue with his prospects in coming weeks.

I do think there are plenty of cheap defenders (Leicester?) and I wouldn't mind going to a cheap one as per my Fofana plan. But it's likely to be James due to sheer point-scoring potential in immediate term.

    TAA - Cancelo - Tripps - Williams - Patterson
    Maddison - Zaha - Silva - Martinelli - Andreas

    2FT - 0.8ITB

Thinking hold Patterson then the obvious TAA > James and either

I'd love to keep trent but I don't see him outscoring James for the foreseeable (Arsenal and City) and it would let me upgrade go Martinelli > Diaz before GW12

Do you think though that Diaz will outscore TAA from gw12 and after? 🙂

Probably not but Diaz/Foden & James could well outscore Silva & TAA, not doubting Trent will come good but it's a lot of cash on that gamble which could be spread around elsewhere

Thanks! Who would you go for? Already have Guehi and nothing ITB.

Why not stick with Guehi? He's probably the best safe pick at that price.

I’m playing Guehi most GWs now. But don’t want to keep walker if he’s sidelined for several weeks (probably at least the next 2 and the blank). Seems like a waste of a slot and 5m
