From Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m) to Luis Diaz (£8.0m), we’re rounding up what we know on the team news front ahead of Gameweek 11 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

The pre-match press conferences that will take place up and down the country later in the week will supersede this piece and help finalise our predicted line-ups but in the meantime, this article takes an early look at the injury situation across the top flight.

It will be updated through the week, too, after we’ve had more press conferences and action at home and abroad.

BRENTFORD V BRIGHTON

Long-term absentee Jakub Moder (knee) remains sidelined for Brighton, while this week brought some shock news when it was announced that Enock Mwepu would have to retire with immediate effect on medical grounds.

We haven’t got a timeframe on the recoveries of Christian Norgaard (Achilles), Keane Lewis-Potter (ankle/foot) and Pontus Jansson (hamstring), all of whom sat out the thrashing at Newcastle.

LEICESTER V C PALACE

Wilfred Ndidi (hamstring), Ryan Bertrand (knee) and Ricardo Pereira (Achilles) remain out but Papy Mendy (knee) could be back for the trip to Bournemouth and Timothy Castagne (eye) wasn’t thought to be too badly injured in Gameweek 10.

Nathaniel Clyne (ankle) and James McArthur (groin) remain on the sidelines for the trip to Leicester, while it remains to be seen just how match-fit Nathan Ferguson (foot) and Jack Butland (hand) are after their recent returns to training. We’ve not had an update on Chris Richards since he pulled out of international duty in late-September with an unspecified issue.

FULHAM V BOURNEMOUTH

Aleksandar Mitrovic continues to be assessed after struggling to shake off a knock he picked up over the international break, while Kenny Tete (unspecified) may be nearing a comeback after returning to training last week. Nathaniel Chalobah (suspended) and Manor Solomon (knee) are out, while Layvin Kurzawa (calf) and Willian (calf) are major doubts.

“Let’s see, day by day. We expected him to be with us but unfortunately the last two days he didn’t feel so well. We have to keep checking him, assessing him, to see when he can start working with the team again.” – Marco Silva speaking about the injured Aleksandar Mitrovic on Sunday

Junior Stanislas (muscle), Lloyd Kelly (ankle) and David Brooks (hamstring) remain out for the Cherries but Joe Rothwell (thigh) and Ben Pearson (knee) have been back in training recently, so could return from lengthy lay-offs at Fulham.

WOLVES V NOTTM FOREST

Pedro Neto (ankle), Sasa Kalajdzic (knee), Chiquinho (knee) and Raul Jimenez (groin) are on the injury list and Nathan Collins is still suspended but Ruben Neves returns from a one-match ban and Boubacar Traore (illness) could be back for the visit of Nottingham Forest.

Omar Richards (leg), Moussa Niakhate (muscle) and Jack Colback (back) were all again absent from Monday’s draw with Aston Villa but there no other known injury concerns for Forest at the time of writing.

SPURS V EVERTON

Emerson Royal continues to serve a three-match ban and Lucas Moura (tendon) will remain sidelined for some time, while the visit of Everton is expected to come too soon for Dejan Kulusevski (hamstring). Harry Kane picked up a knock in the win over Brighton last weekend but the player himself wasn’t overly concerned after full-time and we’ll likely get an update on him from Antonio Conte on Tuesday.

“It’s just a knock, I think. He’s obviously gone full power for the shot there and I’ve just managed to get in front of him. A sore one but they are definitely worth it when you win the game for sure.

“I’m feeling good, a lot of games coming thick and fast. We’ve got the Champions League again in midweek, we’ve just got to recover well and the whole squad’s got to be ready to play and just keep battling out the games.” – Harry Kane, speaking on Saturday

Nathan Patterson (knee), Andros Townsend (knee) and Ben Godfrey (leg) are all on the sidelines ahead of the trip to Spurs, while Anthony Gordon serves a one-match ban. Mason Holgate (knee) and Yerry Mina (ankle) could come into contention after returning to training.

ASTON VILLA V CHELSEA

Diego Carlos (Achilles), Boubacar Kamara (knee), Lucas Digne (knee) and Ludwig Augustinsson (hamstring) are all out of the clash with Chelsea, while it remains to be seen if Leon Bailey is anywhere near full fitness after a “small muscle injury” ruled him out of Gameweek 10.

Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante (hamstring/match fitness) and Wesley Fofana (knee) will both miss the trip to Villa, while it remains to be seen if Hakim Ziyech recovers from the illness that led to him missing the Champions League tie against AC Milan in midweek.

Reece James is a fresh concern and will need a scan on a knee injury picked up in Tuesday’s win over AC Milan.

LEEDS V ARSENAL

Adam Forshaw (ankle), Leo Hjelde (appendix), Stuart Dallas (knee) and Archie Gray (toe) are all on the injury list ahead of the visit of Arsenal but Luis Sinisterra returns after serving a one-match ban and Junior Firpo should be fit after missing the defeat to Crystal Palace as a precaution.

Emile Smith Rowe (groin) and Mohamed Elneny (hamstring) remain out, while further word is awaited on Oleksandr Zinchenko after he missed the win over Liverpool with a calf problem.

MAN UTD V NEWCASTLE

Further news is awaited on the back injury that Anthony Martial sustained in Sunday’s win over Everton and indeed on the latest condition of Harry Maguire (hamstring), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (unspecified) and Donny van de Beek (muscle), all of whom sat out Gameweek 10. Scott McTominay is suspended and Brandon Williams (unspecified) is a long-term absentee.

Karl Darlow (ankle), Emil Krafth (knee), Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring) and Alexander Isak (ankle) all missed the win over Brentford, with the latter’s return date still unknown as the Newcastle medical team are holding him back from anything more strenuous than running at present. Shelvey is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a medium-term lay-off but this game may still come too soon. Allan Saint-Maximin returned to fitness as a substitute in Gameweek 10.

SOUTHAMPTON V WEST HAM

Tino Livramento (knee) is out until 2023 but Romeo Lavia (muscle) shouldn’t be too far away from a return, with the original six-week timeframe of recovery now just about up.

Nayef Aguerd (ankle) is still a little way from a playing comeback but Maxwel Cornet (calf) could potentially be available after being ruled out only for “days” last Friday.

LIVERPOOL V MAN CITY

Arthur Melo (muscle), Luis Diaz (knee), Joel Matip (calf) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (ankle) are on the sidelines for the Manchester City game.

Melo and Diaz will be out until after the World Cup break, while Alexander-Arnold will be unavailable for at least two weeks.

Andrew Robertson (knee) is fine, however, and was named in the midweek UEFA Champions League squad.

Curtis Jones (leg) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (hamstring) are both back in training but weren’t match-fit enough for the Rangers game on Wednesday, while Naby Keita (muscle) is thought to be also nearing a return to training.

Kalvin Phillips (shoulder), Kyle Walker (groin) and John Stones (hamstring) sat out the win over Southampton and all three of those players were still sidelined for the midweek Champions League tie against FC Copenhagen. Only Stones has a chance of recovering for the Liverpool game on Sunday.

Covid finally caught me, and right on my son's birthday. Luckily we had to have his party a few days before at the weekend (although that's likely where I got it). I'm glad it's at least during a week with a lot of football on or else I'd be twiddling my thumbs messing with my FPL team out of boredom all week. Didn't really realise that since last Saturday there's either PL or European football on every day for 2 weeks bar next Monday and Friday

Only had it the once and same experience, just really knackered for a few days, I knew I had it two or three days before the test became positive. Glad I'd had the jabs though. My parents got pretty ill in the run up to Christmas 2019 and was diagnosed as pneumonia but with hindsight...

We avoided it until February and then kindly had it brought home from school! Luckily this was only two months after my booster so it was fine. My other half got it after going to Coldplay at Wembley in August and was really rough, pretty much bed bound for a week proper flu. This was eight months past the booster though so shows how effective it is really.

I'm actually exactly 8 months after my booster too funnily enough! I felt worse before my positive test, definitely wasn't a nice mix with asthma, right now I'm mostly just very achey and feverishness coming and going but can't complain much

Try the COVID drink Natedog, tastes awful but it's effective for boosting your immune system. Lemon, ginger and crushed garlic, cold water, boil it up in a saucepan. Not a pleasant hot drink but you can feel the good in it as it's it goes down. Get well soon regardless. How whiskey also nice 🙂

Assuming kane is given all clear and with an eye to the blank - any preference?

    A) Sterling & Jesus -> Maddison & Kane for free
    B) Sterling -> Maddison reasses in GW12 with 2ft.
    C) Keep Steling & Jesus, do something else

I know sods law if I ship Jesus now, he'll haul vs leeds, but Kane at home to Everton is tempting me.

He is having his 1st proper test, not really encountered any obstacles to this point in his career. Its not always easy to get your mojo back, especially when the entire team is underperforming.

Just look at rashford for the past 2 seasons, he looked a beaten man last season, but maybe seems to have turned a corner now, but its taken him a long time.

As they've all said if you're a defender but you can't defend eventually you will get found out. A lot of work to do on the training pitch. James is streets ahead at the mo for the World Cup place.

    https://theathletic.com/3676111/2022/10/11/erling-haaland-release-clause-premier-league?source=user-shared-article

Haaland does have a release clause,of €200m which kicks in in the summer of 2024, but only for clubs outside of the PL, with the value decreasing each remaining year of his 5 year contract. Not too surprised, this was mooted when the deal to City was done, it's what his team have wanted each time he's moved so that he's free to keep his options open to moves to bigger clubs elsewhere without it being unrealistic/unachievable for those clubs to afford. City aren't really worried about it according to TA, Pep has always said he doesn't like players forcibly tied down and wants them free to go if they're unhappy but it seems Haaland is certainly happy now. You'd imagine (especially after the Mbappe embarassment) that Madrid will be in for him unless Mbappe is set to go there in the same year (which was my theory when he signed his new deal at PSG), Barcelona and others too will surely try to make it a possibility.

I think he'll end up at Real Madrid at some point, but City should get at least 3/4 seasons from him.

The lure of los blancos is too much for most players not to be swayed. Once they target a player, most cases they'll get him, and especially if his contract opens up that possibility.

      1. Nate(U)dog(ie)

The funny thing with him is, even if he decides to fulfil his entire 5 year contract at City before going to Madrid, he'd still get to go to Madrid during his prime years. Bonkers the level he's at at his age

That was a thing till 5-10 years ago, the big premier league clubs, Paris, Bayern and Barca (to an extent) are more than capable of matching astronomical wages.

im not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing lol.

Are you saying its less likely he will go to Madrid as more clubs offer big money?

If so, I dont think the money comes into it. I mean, there is no comparison if you compare the prestige of Madrid and City, they will always have a pull for all players (aside from those affilated with Barce - and even that didnt matter for Figo!) and it 3/4 seasons pep may be gone. Alot can change in that time.

No, what he's saying is the PL has grown exponentially whilst La Liga shrank in equal measure. Yes, Madrid and Barcelona will always be big clubs but they're not the same magnet as before. They don't have the best players in the world anymore and it's a lot harder to get them now. I would say a lot lot lot harder.

I guess we will wait and see. I'd be surprised if both Haaland and Mbappe done end up at Madrid in the next 4/5 years.

I also think that once Pep does move on, City will have a drop off. He's one of the best coaches ever (Even if he does need the best players) he gets them playing football on another level.

That's done and dusted, La Liga has lost a lot of strength in the last 10 years. Even Real Madrid and Barcelona. They couldn't get Mbappe from PSG why should they be able to get Haaland from City?

Being the best club right now does not equal biggest club. To suggest City are bigger than 14 times European winners Madrid, and current holders is ludicrous.

Madrid will always have a pull for pretty much all players

Doesn't matter if City are the best club in the world right now, they don't have a history of European trophies or success, they don't have a derby that is watched by the numbers that watch El Clasico or that has the animosity that that does, they don't have the pull that Real Madrid has had for decades. Even Barcelona who have been a mess for a while are still pulling in players who have been forced to take big paycuts to join/stay because of the history and legacy of the club. I've already said that he looks very happy at City, he's playing under the best manager in the world, he's the fittest he's ever been under probably the best medical department in football (judging by the number of games City play each season and them having the lowest incidence of soft tissue injuries last season in the PL), he has an astounding team around him and the physical demands on him aren't massive like at Dortmund which will prolong his career. That doesn't mean he won't want to leave in 3-5 seasons if he's won everything he can with City, or when Pep leaves, or if he wants a new challenge. Get your head out of your behind acting like you're the only person here that watches football or that has an idea of how things work.

So after reading that long reply I can only assume you agree with my main point, there is absolutely no reason for Haaland to leave City and the chance of any of those Spanish clubs to be able to sign him is very very low.

          1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
            • 5 Years

Right now there's no need to leave, yes. But in a few years time there probably will. Both Madrid and Barca are at a point now where they have good youth prospects but are still also relying on older players short-term. Madrid spent years building up an Mbappe pot from player sales and they'll do it again for a forward that they'll base their team around, the question is who it will be for as it's impossible they can buy both. I thought something came out about Mbappe's new deal actually only being for 2 years which means it'd time out with my idea of him staying at PSG on ludicrous terms until 2024 and getting his move then with no issues. Bayern may be an option too, it seems they have significant interest and it could tie in with rumours that they were going to consider a huge offer for Kane next year.

Morning all, this feels like a save FT unless injuries crop up?

Would you play Dier over Trippier?

    Pope
    Cancelo Trippier James
    Foden Maddison Martinelli Trossard
    Haaland Kane Mitrovic

    Iversen Dier Andreas Neco

Is Cancelo likely to play against Copenhagen?
I am guessing Haaland may get reduced time (maybe 45 mins).

I think you got to get up at 3am to check lineups, some players will get rested but it’s anyone’s guess who

Hmm the UCL site are predicting him to start but I'd be a bit wary of buying him now. Maybe he's just a machine & plays every game but they've now had quite a few fixtures in a row with only 2 rest days in between, and I can certainly imagine it being his turn for a rest.

Haaland to start but come off early would be my guess too

      I’d go Son.

Owned Sterling for the last 5 weeks and he’s been nothing but a frustration.

Salah & Toney to Trossard & Kane worth a -4?

  23. mcsteely

    Pope
    Cancelo* Trippier Saliba* Guhei Patterson*
    Maddison Diaz* Zaha Martinelli* Andreas
    Kane Haaland* Jesus*

So many fires to put out..
    Diaz injured
    Patterson injured
5 players from Ars & City blanking in GW 12

What would you prioritise for this week?

    1. Shatner's Bassoon
      • 8 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

      Diaz and Patterson out definitely.

Then when 12 rolls around I would just get rid of Saliba to field 10.

Jesus has sou/NFO after the blank so any points you "lose" you might recoup.

Do you think that Zaha and Maddison are worth keeping after GW12? Or just find funds to get like Saka and Foden in their place?

    1. Shatner's Bassoon

Zaha is. Jury out on Madds but moving him to Phil F or Saka is going to stick out like a sore thumb by (latest) GW14.

Fixtures are still pretty good for Zaha, especially with the carrot of Forest on the last day. Maddison I'm planning to move to Saka in 13

Diaz out until after the WC… who does this benefit minutes wise? Suspect it might be Nunez starting out wide and cutting in

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

Carvalho / Jota. I really don't think Darwin moves wide. Either Jota plays LW & Firmino 10, or Jota continues as 10 & Carvalho LW

    2. Shatner's Bassoon
      • 8 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

Nunez has played wide left ish in the past, so I imagine him and Jota could switch round during games if they both start.

Best replacement for Diaz and Coufal? Currently thinking two palace players, Zaha and Andersen.

    1. Athletic Nasherbo
      • 9 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

I’d actually be looking at a formation change to get Jota/Darwin/Firmino in.

If you can stretch to Bowen, I think I prefer him over Zaha.

      1. Vlad Tepes
        • 9 Years

Hm problem is that I already have 3 forwards, Mitro, Håland and Jesus.
Got Bowen already so it is between Trossard, Zaha and Maddison. But like Zaha most of those.

I know this is a little bit mad… but I’m considering getting a Liverpool (cheap) defender in after the city game. They have good fixtures. Who’s the best punt?

      • 9 Years
      3 years, 9 months ago

Well with Trent and Matip out for a few weeks and Robbo back in full training I doubt you’ll really reap the rewards of this move.

Konate the most likely to retain his spot.

Full backs, depending on Trent and Robbo injury progress
