We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from Brentford v Brighton and Hove Albion in our Scout Notes summary.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL and our own Premium Members Area, where you can access Opta player and team data for every single Premier League fixture.

Ivan Toney (£7.3m) marked his 100th appearance for Brentford with a brace of goals against Brighton in Friday’s Gameweek 11 opener.

The 26-year-old, who is pushing for a place in England’s World Cup squad, is now on eight Premier League goals this season, only behind Erling Haaland (£12.2m, 15) and level with Harry Kane (£11.4m).

It’s no fluke, either: Toney has been presented with 11 big chances this term, two more than Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m) and Kane, albeit having played one additional match.

Above: Toney ranks second among all players for big chances in 2022/23, with 11

His second against Brighton, a 64th-minute penalty he won himself, means he has remarkably scored all 20 spot-kicks he has taken for Brentford, including eight in the Premier League.

However, Toney did receive his fourth booking of the season late on, meaning he will now have to last until early-January without another caution if he is to avoid a one-match ban.

“I think he’s getting closer and closer [to being alongside world-class strikers], that’s for sure. I think you can see that his link-up play is so good, he can read the game very well. His technical ability to either flick or hold or set the ball is very good.

I always say that if you want to create a top scorer then they need to be technically very good so the way he can connect with the ball, left-foot, right-foot, the free-kick against Leeds, the chip, he’s so good technically. He’s just got that character about him as well.

He’s one of the big leaders without a doubt. I have four captains and Ivan is a big driver also on the pitch, big demands to himself and his teammates but in that perfect balance where he’s very competitive but with a big smile. Of course a lot of banter and joking but caring about his teammates.” – Thomas Frank on Ivan Toney

Brentford’s secondary hero behind Toney was undoubtedly David Raya (£4.5m), who made fine saves to deny Danny Welbeck (£6.5m), Joel Veltman (£4.6m) and Solly March (£5.0m), resulting in his first double-figure haul of the campaign.

The Spanish shot-stopper is now up to 39 saves for the season, at least five more than any other FPL ‘keeper.

Above: Raya ranks first among all goalkeepers for saves and save points in 2022/23, with 39 and 11 respectively

The breakthrough for Thomas Frank’s side came after a period of control for Brighton, with Welbeck – who is still searching for his first league goal of 2022/23 – particularly wasteful.

They actually ended the night with more shots (21/7), possession (72%) and xG (1.79/1.56) than Brentford, but were made to pay for some poor finishing, a familiar theme for the The Seagulls in recent times

Roberto De Zerbi named the same starting XI for the third match in a row but showed the same kind of tactical flexibility as his predecessor by setting up in a back four formation, rather than the 3-4-2-1 he had used against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

A half-time switch saw Kaoru Mitoma (£4.9m) introduced for Pervis Estupinan (£4.5m), with the Japanese international lining up on the right-wing, which in turn, saw Solly March (£5.0m) shift to left-back.

Elsewhere, Leandro Trossard (£6.8m) and Pascal Gross (£5.9m), owned by 16.2% and 19.6% of FPL managers respectively, both underwhelmed and were withdrawn after 68 minutes.

Tonight’s loss means De Zerbi is still waiting for his first win at Brighton, with Nottingham Forest up next at the Amex on Tuesday.

“I thought we played a good game but if you want to win you have to score. It is difficult to explain the result and for a coach it’s difficult for me to talk about playing a good game when we lost 2-0. We had a lot of potential chances and [more than] 20 shots on the goal but we didn’t score. The goalkeeper for Brentford was fantastic.

Maybe that is our problem because against Tottenham we had a lot of shots but didn’t score, we couldn’t find the last pass or final cross when we needed it. The second goal was important but even then I felt that if we could score one goal it would open the game up.

We are not happy of course because we lost but on Sunday we start preparing for another game on Tuesday against Nottingham [Forest]. We will see the condition of the players and some may be tired but there aren’t any other problems.” – Roberto De Zerbi

Brentford XI: Raya; Ajer, Pinnock, Mee, Henry (Ghoddos 87); Janelt, Onyeka (Baptiste 71), Jensen (Dasilva 80); Mbeumo (Canos 80), Wissa (Roerslev 71), Toney

Brighton and Hove Albion XI: Sanchez; Veltman, Webster, Dunk, Estupinan (Mitoma 45); March, Mac Allister, Caicedo, Trossard (Undav 68); Gross (Lallana 68), Welbeck

    Have Patterson 1FT 3.4m ITB

    Would you rather play 10 than use a transfer to play 11 players, for a defender move for Patterson?

    Want Saka, Foden, and maybe Darwin GW13 (for Trossard, Maddison and Mitrovic). Darwin may come in GW12, if Mitro is struggling. So a -4 as it is anyway

      This will be as good a week to afford a hit. I’ll be moving Patterson out for a -4 as well. I’m going Pool with their fixtures probably vvd

      I'd do Patterson to Guehi, and consider the it next week.

      Decent shot it pays you back with 6 points right away. Probably 2 if not.

    GW12 only, 1 FT, 1.7 ITB

    Ward
    Trippier Struijk Neco
    Salah(c) Maddison Zaha Andreas Longstaff
    Toney Jesus
    Iversen Haaland Cancelo Saliba

    A. Jesus to Mitrovic if fit
    B. A + take hit to reinforce defense

    Thanks

    I didn’t watch the match tonight. Reading comments here, Trossard was shite. I was going to bring him in for Gordon GW12. I am now debating how wise that is. If I don’t bring him in, I could bring in Bowen or Mount (if the latter is ok with his thigh). The problem is, I won’t have the money to do Neco to Saliba and Wilson to Jesus. If I went with Mount, I could do one of those two transfers but not both. Any suggestions?

      Personally I’d stick with your plan regarding Trossard as a one week punt, Forest at home is as good as it gets. Or switch your plans to White rather than Saliba to free up extra cash.

        Even with two difficult games after (City and Chelsea)? I hate bringing in players for one game.

      It was classic Brighton in front of goal, Trossard could have walked away with two assists and didn't stop trying to be involved in and around the box. Some of it was wasteful but so were all the Brighton attacks. Forest at home next for him while Arsenal and City blank, he's a sell for GW13 but for GW12 most people need to use their transfer(s) elsewhere.

        Good to know it wasn't a complete disaster for him. I am still unsure though. I am not bringing in a player for 1 GW - it is a waste of a FT (unless I had a WC, which I don't). I would only bring him in if it were for 5GWs.

      I got him for these 2 and still can’t sleep because I am regretting it badly

      The thing is that he is not my pick not a player that I like, can’t believe I fell for the trap

      He didn’t look like a professional footballer tonight, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to be benched midweek

      No surprise that Potter rotated him all the time, he needs benching from time to time that’s for sure

      Bench cameo and 1 pt against Forrest are my expectations

        Seems a bit dramatic. I am sure he will play - it is not like they have a wealth of options at Brighton and he is one of their best players, if not the best. I am unsure whether to bring him for just one GW. His two games after that are City and Chelsea, and I do not expect him to do well there. A few easy ones after but then WC. Mount is another option, instead of Bowen or Trossard.

      Trossard was diabolical tonight. Not seen the stats but reckon his pass completion was about 5% (almost in Sterling territory). But he is that kind of player that plays appalling one week then amazing the next. I went for the more reliable but equally unprofitable Mac Allister.

        He was diabolical I agree that

        He might start next I might be exaggerating but he was really really awful

        I have brought him in - if it doesn't work out I will take a -4 and upgrade him to Mount

      I don’t think you should throw out a considered transfer based on multiple data points because the last point isn’t great. That seems kneejerky AF

      Tough one. Auba perhaps. Only because of team form i.e. Chelsea already look a better unit and Liverpool are still a bit all over the show - in terms of opposition for the week, either could score.

    Jesus just seen the time, price changes may cause me issues, feedback welcomed please;

    GW12:
    Pope
    James*, Cucurella, Trippier, Neco
    Maddison (c), Andreas, Longstaff
    Scamacca

    Ward, Cancelo, Martinelli, KDB, Jesus, Haaland

    GW12;
    A) KDB & Jesus > Bowen & Kane (free)
    B) James, KDB, Jesus > Kilman, Bowen & Kane (-4)
    C) James, KDB, Jesus > Ait Nouri, Salah & Kane (-4)

    Do we go early & block Kilman/Kane price rises but risk injury or do we wait until Sunday night after all games are played?

    GW13 plans would be;
    If A) James (if still injured) & Longstaff > Kilman & Foden (-4)
    If A) Kane & Longstaff > Jesus & Foden (-4)
    If B) Longstaff > Foden (free)
    If C) Roll FT

            Bowen & Kane was always the plan.

            Then GW13;
            Kane & Longstaff > Jesus & Foden (-4) which gives me 2.4 ITB.

            So GW14;
            If James still out I can do him to Trent (if Liverpool have re-found their form)

                I have 5 players blanking GW12. So two have to come out... Haaland, not a chance (would lose too much value). Cancelo... Nah. Martinelli, why lose him and lose value when I can lose Jesus.

                I can leave Kane in but I don't want two premiums this year with perma Haaland (c). Also Kane blocks me having Foden. It's Kane & Longstaff vs Jesus & Foden (0.4M difference), for me it's a no brainer.

                GW13 team would look like;

                Ward,
                Cancelo, James, Cucu/Trippier
                Foden, Bowen, Maddi, Martinelli
                Haaland (c), Jesus, Scamacca

                I just think that's a devastating team and I'd still have 2.5 ITB for upgrades such as James/Cucu > Trent if Liverpool start playing ball

            He's due to go for me in GW14 to make way for Jesus who has NFO that week...

            He's currently on 4 yellow cards so if booked next week then I'll just make the move then...

      Thought it was 3-2 for a minute but the James drop was chalked off to a late sub for Dalot.
      Wasn't expecting Martial to drop mind you.

    As someone who who metaphorically tossed a coin between Mitrovic and Toney 3 weeks ago, and went Mitrovic. But also bets heavily on goals on the Live Sky matches. After tonight’s match I can thoroughly recommend Ben Bracken single Malt from Lidl!

      take it easy

      breathe deeply

      and realise if a toss of a. coin can fall either way multiple times, then it's more than possible that bets land one way, often, back with the bookie

    Feel free to ignore, feel free to reply (if you have constructive feedback), having issues creating multiple plans on FPL Live, so just making some plans here to refer back too;

    GW12:
    Pope
    James*, Trippier (vc), Cucurella, Neco
    Maddison (c), Andreas, Longstaff
    Scamacca

    Ward, Cancelo, Martinelli, KDB, Jesus, Haaland

    A) KDB & Jesus > Bowen & Kane (free)
    B) James, KDB, Jesus > Kilman, Bowen & Kane (-4)
    C) James, KDB, Jesus > Ait Nouri, Salah & Kane (-4)
    ^ Means playing one of Ait-Nouri, Neco, Andreas or Longstaff each week.

    GW13:
    If A)
    i) 2.8 ITB, if James still injured and Liverpool perform, then James > Robertson (free) leaves 2.1 ITB
    ii) 2.8 ITB, if James not injured then Kane & Longstaff > Jesus & Foden (-4) leaves 2.4 ITB

    If B)
    i) 4.2 ITB, Longstaff > Foden (free) leaves 0.4 ITB
    ii) 4.2 ITB, Longstaff & Kane > Foden & Jesus (-4) leaves 3.8 ITB

    If C)
    i) 0 ITB, roll FT if Salah performing
    ii) 0 ITB, if Salah not performing still, Salah > Foden (free) leaves 4.5 ITB
    iii) 0 ITB, if Salah not performing still, Salah & Foden & Bowen (-4) leaves 0.7 ITB
    iv) 0 ITB, if Salah not performing but Liverpool are, Salah & Neco > Foden & Robertson (-4) leaves 1.9 ITB
