We round up the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) talking points from West Ham United v Bournemouth in our Scout Notes summary.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL and our own Premium Members Area, where you can access Opta player and team data for every single Premier League fixture.

Dominic Solanke (£5.8m) hobbled off in Bournemouth’s defeat to West Ham on Monday, lasting only 45 minutes of the Cherries’ 2-0 loss after picking up an ankle injury.

The forward was seen leaving the London Stadium in a protective boot, with further assessment to follow.

“Dom Solanke had some pain in his ankle having rolled it. I don’t know the seriousness of it. I think on leaving in a boot that is normal for an ankle injury. That doesn’t mean it’s serious or not – it’s very, very early to know what it is and what it isn’t. Obviously, we will be desperate for it to be as short as possible.” – Gary O’Neil

To add to the visitor’s woes, they also lost first-choice‘ keeper Neto (£4.5m) at the break, having hurt himself while clearing the ball in the first half. He was replaced by Mark Travers (£4.3m), who started the season as number one but hasn’t played since the 9-0 Liverpool defeat.

As for West Ham, Kurt Zouma (£4.5m) netted the opener, with VAR in the spotlight after the ball bounced off Thilo Kehrer’s (£4.5m) arms in the build-up. The Frenchman has now taken eight shots inside the box this season, more than any other FPL defender bar Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) and Ryan Sessegnon (£4.5m).

There was further controversy late on, when a penalty was awarded after Vladimir Coufal’s (£4.3m) cross hit the arm of Jordan Zemura (£4.4m), who was sliding with his arms raised.

However, Jarrod Bowen (£8.2m) – who missed West Ham’s last penalty at Anfield in Gameweek 12 – had been withdrawn just moments before after a quiet night, which meant Said Benrahma (£5.6m) was the man to step up and covert.

Bowen then later confirmed in his post-match interview that he wouldn’t have taken the penalty even if he was still on the pitch.

“No chance of me taking the penalty, I’m off them after my miss last week! But it was a great pen from Said [Benrahma] and he has that quality. I see it in training every day. He was great tonight.” – Jarrod Bowen on whether he would have taken the penalty

For Benrahma, the winger had impressed in cameos off the bench against Southampton and Liverpool recently, with David Moyes challenging him in the build-up to “show a bit more” and “make things happen”. Upon his return to the starting XI, he certainly did that, with his converted penalty his eighth shot of the match.

“Really pleased because he’s so important for us. We need him. He’s a dribbler, you don’t get many dribblers any more, he wants to take people on but as you know, people who watch West Ham regularly and come to the game, it is his final product. Whether it is a cross, a pass or his finish, so we’ve been trying to get him continually on to it. I’ll tell you what he does do, every year he always supplies us goals, I think last year he probably got six or seven and probably six or seven assists as well. He plays a big part, but his form has been in and out and we’re trying to get a little bit more consistency from him. I have to say, he played really well tonight, we felt it was a game at home like this under the lights and we thought it was a night where maybe he would have a chance to take people on and dribble and I thought he did really well.” – David Moyes on Said Benrahma

Elsewhere, Aaron Cresswell (£4.8m) produced his biggest return of the season so far with eight points. The full-back put in some good crosses and with another four chances created for his teammates in Gameweek 13, is now up to 24 overall – more than any other FPL defender bar Kieran Trippier (£5.8m).

Above: Defenders sorted by chances created in 2022/23

West Ham have only scored 11 Premier League goals in 12 games this season, with their success built on their ability to keep things tight: their 98.4 minutes per expected goal conceded (xGC) figure is the third-best in the division, only behind Manchester City and Arsenal.

Moyes’ troops now visit Old Trafford this weekend, with home fixtures against Crystal Palace and Leicester City to follow, at which point we break for the winter World Cup.

Prior to tonight, Bournemouth had been travelling well under Gary O’Neil: since losing 9-0 to Liverpool in Gameweek 4 they were unbeaten in three Premier League away games. However, two VAR calls went against them on Monday, which means they have now lost back-to-back league matches.

Up next for the Cherries is Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, before they meet Leeds United and Everton in Gameweeks 15 and 16 respectively.

West Ham United XI: Fabianski; Johnson, Zouma, Kehrer, Cresswell; Soucek, Rice; Bowen (Coufal 88), Downes (Fornals 88), Benrahma; Scamacca (Antonio 74)

Bournemouth XI: Neto (Travers 45); Fredericks (Zemura 57), Mepham, Senesi, Smith; Christie (Anthony 57), Cook, Lerma, Tavernier; Billing, Solanke (Moore 45)

    Zaha - SOU (H)
    Almiron - AVL (H)

Got burned this week, Almiron on the bench got double the points of my entire starting midfield!

    Bottomed,

    Benching headache, bench two of these;

    1) Zaha
    2) White
    3) Andreas
    4) Trippier
    5) VVD

Currently benching 2 and 3 FWIW

Don't bench White who plays NFO over VVD. Liverpool unlikely to keep CS.

    Guaita
    Cancelo Trippier Sessegnon
    Foden Bowen Saka Martinelli
    Haaland Darwin Mitrovic
    (Ward, Andreas, Perisic, Estupinan)

    3 ideas for the run-in:
    A) Fix 3rd defender spot with something like Perisic - Gabriel or Estupinan - White?
    B) Play around with the Mitrovic spot to attack the fixtures. Mitro - Jesus/Toney - Scamacca?
    C) Bowen & Mitrovic - Almiron & Kane (-4). Maybe Spurs have the best 3 games to attack (bou LIV LEE)?

See above, similar team. Imo I am looking at these few GW’s in isolation, and just playing the GW fixture, ensuring I have who I think is best pick for that week, in your case I would look at Saka for Bowen

Rage transferred Bowen out last night for Saka, don't care if I get an injury it was worth it! Team still looks good on paper but getting nothing but red arrows recently. Anything worth a hit or G2G?

    Cancelo Trippier Guehi

Crazy couple of weeks, planned and set up so well for the BGW, had 11 players out with no hits and still got a huge red.
Brought Foden in for Mount the following week and he got benched.

This will make you laugh, best mate and main rival in one of my ML missed the deadline for the blank GW, he had Haaland C and KDB VC, missing the deadline also meant he missed doing KDB to Salah who of coursed blanked then blanked again while KDB scored haha just shows how there is genuinely no skill in this game.

Oh the luck in this game is insane. Like you I planned so well for BGW, and even used the planner tool to get my squad where I want it for the weeks leading up to the World Cup. I’m still sticking to the same plan and hoepfully it eventually pays off. My ML is a joke, first year I join a pay to play one and it’s the worst I’ve done in years! Guys at the top just seem to have random players that u expectedly haul every week it’s so frustrating ha

As almost certainly the oldest red-blooded bloke on here I can tell you that you are definitely right, but the average weight of many young people, especially women, has gone through the roof. Whether the nice parts are artificially bigger, that's not for me to find out.

Rough; Pretty average 54 points for me, 80k ish red arrow. 16 points on the bench! Haaland(c), Mitrovic and Ward my only returns. Brought Foden in for Rashford, after a sleepless night deciding on him or Zaha leaving the team. In the end made little difference.

Smooth; Rashford didn't burn me. Went into this run of games at 972k, came out the other side at 747k so overall I'm happy.

I am not even bothering working out the points.
2 minutes of madness in the Newcastle Spurs game. Pope Trippier and Wilson went from possible 27 points to 9.

Rough: 7 blanks... Cancelo, Trippier, Martinelli, Salah, Foden, Zaha, Jesus

Smooth: Ward, Mitro, obvious captain Haaland and finally ZOUMAAA sending me into the top 75k with 67pts

      Rough, rough and rougher:
Kane, Mount and Soucek (16 points) > Salah (c), Foden and Solanke (inj) (6 points) for -8; net -18
Williams bench defender 6 points, three playing defenders Andersen, Trippier, Cancelo 5 points
Andreas bench midfielder 10 points, four playing midfielders Salah (c), Foden, Zaha, Martinelli 8 points
Dropped from under 150,000 to outside 450,000
      Apart from that, fine..........

Smooth: Brought Almiron and Kane in on my wildcard
Rough: Brought in Raya on my wildcard and played him over Ward. Also benched Andreas, White and Neco for a total of 30 points on my bench.

Smooth - 79pts. Zouma, Castagne, Andreas, Mitro & Haaland getting the big points.

Trossard to Foden didn’t work out, but he’d have been on bench anyway.

Smooth - my front 3 all returned: cHaaland, Kane and Mitro.
Rough - everyone else. Especially painful is the realisation that if I'd not made any transfers, I'd have been 25 points better off.

Felt I urgently had to get Foden in after cheaping out and getting Bernardo instead on GW8 WC and wanted to keep Salah for his “plum fixtures” so did:
      Kane (8) Andreas (10) and Trossard (7)
      to
      Toney (2) Foden (1) and Martinelli (2) for a -8
Was on holiday so a bit out of the loop but it felt like the best I could do… huge red arrow from 172 to 439k. Oh and had Bailey and Ward benched when the original plan was to play Bailey vs Brentford!

Rough - 3 defenders and 4 midfielders all scored 1-2 points, Andreas stuck on the bench

Smooth - Haaland doing Haaland things, contributions as well from Kane, Mitro and Ward.

58 points this week - not the worst but could've been a lot better

What you reckon guys, is this an easy roll of a FT? Have 1 transfer and 1m in the bank otherwise.

    Pope
    Cancelo - Trippier - Castagne
    Foden - Martinelli - Zaha - Salah
    Haaland - Mitro - Toney

    Ward - Andreas - Neco - Doherty

Strong front 7 with good bench. I'd consider playing Doherty (bou) over Castagne (MCI) and keep FT.

Bowen to Saka/Rash/Antony or Cucurella to Dalot/Chillwell/VanD

If Bowen aint leaving I play Andreas instead of him. If Cucu aint leaving I might have to play him or a budget defender against city.

If Bowen was still on the pitch instead of being subbed off then that exact penalty would never have occurred.

I don't understand how people can not think these sorts of things through. Same as saying "it should be 4-0" after 4 big chances missed. If the first goal goes in then the entire game changes.

Glad someone else agrees! It drives me mad 😀 Even commentators do it, and you even find it in actual match reports professional journalists have been paid actual money to write... In a very similar vein you have e.g. "Salah took his 90th minute goal well.. he really should have finished the game with two goals but managed to miss a big chance in the 85th...."

1 FT and 2.5 ITB with this attacking unit for GW14.

    Pope (Ward)
Cancelo - Trippier - White (Guehi, Neco)
    Salah - Foden - Martinelli - Zaha - Andreas
    Haaland - Mitrovic (Welbeck)

No Kane vs BOU (A) and No Jesus / Saka vs NFO (H) is a worry.

    A) FT .. Welbeck > Jesus … bench Andreas?
    B) FT .. Zaha > Saka
    C) -4 hits .. Salah + Welbeck > Kane + Saka
    D) Play this team and have 2 FT for GW15

Yeah. I still reluctant for now as it looks like unnecessary hits and I will have to bench Andreas (EVE) if going C.

If Kane & Saka look fine after midweek and Liverpool still look uninspiring, the hits might be spent.

tough one. I'm really not keen on the Salah out for a hit which seems popular round here.

However, C does get you 2 key players in with good fixture so I can see the temptation.

Personally I think A is the strongest option however. Clear upgrade and for free.

Wait until after Thursday fixture though

West Ham don´t score enough, so I would move Scam.
Also, you need Arsenal midfield. Salah is too expensive for his output now, so there is your bank.

Something like Salah to Martinelli/Saka, Scam to Darwin/Mitrovic. Longstaff to Rashford/Barnes/Anthony.

I am fairly happy with my team and have 2FTs. The problem I have is that players I would like to bring in (e.g. Foden/Saka/KDB) would be replacing Salah/Zaha, who have great fixtures.

    Pope (Ward)
    Tripps Guehi Cancelo (Kilman Neco)
    Almiron Martinelli Zaha Salah (Andreas)
    Kane Harland Brentford.

Any thoughts on these options? Cheers

    a) Kilman > White (strengthen's 3rd defender but doesn't really move my team forward)
    b) Kilman > 4.3 to insure against price rises stopping me doing c) next week.
    c) Salah > KDB
    d) Salah + Zaha > KDB + Saka
    e) Anything else?

Upgrade a defender this week, then move out Salah next week.
Guehi to bench, get someone who contributes offensively and is more likely to get a cleanie.
      Gabriel/Saliba, VVD?

        Very sound advice.

The issue is that it would then rule out Salah/Zaha > KDB/Saka which I am quite keen on. KDB could be a good diff vs Foden.
