Suspensions

In this regular article, we look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players who are a caution away from a one-match ban.

We also round up which FPL assets are already suspended ahead of the Gameweek 19 deadline.

A reminder: punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

Which FPL players are suspended or nearing a ban? 11

Three players are banned for the Premier League’s next round of fixtures, none of whom is a well-owned FPL asset.

Amadou Onana (£4.8m) and Yves Bissouma (£4.7m) will miss their respective sides’ fixtures in midweek, having collected their fifth bookings of the season over the last 24 hours or so.

Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell (£4.5m) is also still suspended for Gameweek 19 after his straight red card against Fulham on Boxing Day.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

A total of 29 players are currently on the verge of suspension.

Kieran Trippier (£5.9m) and Bukayo Saka (£8.1m) have now joined the group who are close to a ban, picking up their fourth bookings of the season on New Year’s Eve.

A caution for either player in the Arsenal v Newcastle United match on Tuesday would see them miss Gameweek 20.

William Saliba (£5.3m), Harry Kane (£11.6m), Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.1m) and Fabian Schar (£4.9m) are other notable names as they all have double-digit ownerships in FPL, while an ‘out of position’ Leon Bailey (£4.5m) is also in just under 5% of squads.

Mitrovic will be in the clear after Gameweek 19 is over but a booking in Tuesday’s trip to Leicester City would rule him out of Fulham’s second Double Gameweek match, which is against Chelsea on January 12.

Among the 30+ players on three yellow cards are Ben White (£4.7m), Andreas Pereira (£4.6m) and Joao Cancelo (£7.3m).

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

The table above is taken from the Football Association website and details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.

The one we’re concerned about right now is the five-caution mark, an unwanted target that Premier League players will have to avoid for their team’s first 19 league matches of the season.

Following the wave of postponements in the autumn and fixture rearrangements over the World Cup break, that is no longer Gameweek 19 for most teams.

Team19th fixture falls in…
ArsenalGameweek 21
Aston VillaGameweek 20
BournemouthGameweek 20
BrentfordGameweek 20
BrightonGameweek 21
ChelseaGameweek 20
Crystal PalaceGameweek 21
EvertonGameweek 20
FulhamGameweek 19 (second fixture of Double Gameweek)
LeedsGameweek 21
LeicesterGameweek 20
LiverpoolGameweek 21
Man CityGameweek 20 (second fixture of Double Gameweek*)
Man UtdGameweek 21
NewcastleGameweek 20
Nottm ForestGameweek 20
SouthamptonGameweek 20
SpursGameweek 20 (first fixture of Double Gameweek*)
West HamGameweek 20
WolvesGameweek 20

*if the provisional Double Gameweek goes ahead

The above will change if there are any further rearrangements of the postponed fixtures before that.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

I think Man City will go gung-ho Vs Chelsea and put them to the sword.

Lose or drop any more points and they'll be in the clutches of the pack behind.

I wouldn't do it. Mitrovic can get booked and not have a double at all. On the other hand, if you have Andreas, you can bench Wilson for Arsenal, and then in the next 5 Newcastle has a much better schedule then Fulham. It also leaves you with 2 FT for gameweek 20 where we can have a few more doubles.

My only shot at getting Mitrovic is to sell Kane. He’s the only player I would consider shifting for him.

Worth it? Even with Kane’s DGW to come? (Admittedly a tough DGW)
Or……suck it up and do Darwin > Mitro as I have Salah to cover? Such a hard decision!

    Thanks guys.

    For reference, team is:

    Ward
    Cancelo - Trippier - Cucu
    Andreas - Rashford - Salah - Marti
    Kane - Haaland - Darwin

People are getting too concerned about coverage for the most underwhelming DGW. Mitrovic is the only player I think is 'key' but given comments around him still carrying a slight injury and that 4th yellow (coupled with poor fixtures after DGW), I don't think he is essential.

Kepa is my only DGW player. Will prob (c) Rashford and roll a transfer.

Exactly. And Fulham has poor fixtures after the double. Don't see why would anyone go out pf their way to try and get him. I see comments here about people wanting to sell Darwin, or even Kane. That is just crazy to me personally. For example, i have Wilson, and i will probably not sell him for Mitrovic. Also, most people have 7 great attackers and Andreas, who is a perfectly fine play this gameweek. So who are you gonna even bench in that case? Plus the yellow card situation and it is a waste od transfer.

With this midfield, what is the best move?
      KDB, Rashford, Almiron, Martinelli, Andreas

      Is KDB to Odegaard crazy?
Alternatively I wait for Fulham to finish their DGA then do Andreas to Odegaard

      Play two of them:
      A. Ttipp (arsenal A)
      B. Walker (chelsea A)
      C. White (newcatle H)
