Another Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline is almost upon us, so we’ve once again chosen who we think are the best players for the upcoming Gameweek.

As ever, we are limited to £83.0m for our first XI.

And, after a reader vote ahead of 2022/23, an overall price cap of £100.0m is in place for our 15-man squad, too.

GOALKEEPER

FPL Gameweek 15 preview: Goalscorer and clean sheet odds

Ederson (£5.4m) may have underwhelmed in Double Gameweek 20, receiving just two points, but is a secure route into Man City’s backline for Sunday’s home meeting with Wolves. The visitors have shown improvement under Julen Lopetegui, but across the season, have only netted more than once away from home on one occasion. Furthermore, Ederson kept a clean sheet and collected six points in the reverse fixture at Molineux in Gameweek 8.

DEFENDERS

FPL review: 2

Newcastle are having an excellent season so far, with Eddie Howe’s side currently on a 14-game unbeaten run in the Premier League. And it’s in defence where they have been most impressive: the Magpies have conceded fewer goals (11) and kept more clean sheets (11) than any other top-flight side. Now, they visit Selhurst Park on the back of five consecutive shut-outs. Crystal Palace have scored just three goals in their five matches since the World Cup and have the league’s worst xGC tally from set plays this season, suggesting Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) can contribute points at both ends of the pitch.

Serge Aurier (£4.5m) has secured bonus points in four of his last five matches, a period that has seen an improving Nottingham Forest outfit keep three clean sheets. Next up is goal-shy Bournemouth, who have failed to score a single Premier League goal since the season resumed and have slumped to six successive defeats in all competitions. Adding to their woes, they will also be without Dominic Solanke (£5.6m) in Gameweek 21.

Brighton successfully shut out Liverpool last weekend and are a very decent fifth for NPxGC since Roberto De Zerbi took charge. In addition, Pervis Estupinan (£4.5m) carries a bit of assist potential, given that his minutes-per-chance-created average (62) is bettered by only six first-team Premier League defenders in 2022/23. As for their opponents, Leicester, they have allowed more opportunities to be created from their right flank than any other team in the last four Gameweeks.

Each week, a member of the Fantasy Football Scout community takes on the Scout Picks.

The community member who beats our team by the largest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher and a place in our Moderators and Contributors League for the following season.

Boleyn Boy’s 81-54 victory in Gameweek 6 gave them the biggest win (27 points difference) of 2022/23 so far.

Our champion this week is Hwanging by a Fred who has gone for the following: Ederson; Trippier, Schar, Burn; De Bruyne, Ward-Prowse, March, Mitoma; Johnson, Haaland, Toney (c)

Over Shaw, I think. Both CS chances minimal, but Doherty has better attacking potential in this fixture. I haven't checked Conte presser but assume he was only ill & otherwise seems currently preferred to Emerson

No one worth benching for Mitoma right?

Really? I’m not sure about that. Could pay off, but Rashford scores and that’ll really hurt if Mitoma blanks.

Hurt more than if Mitoma scores and Rash blanks that’s for sure

Mitoma had a better fixture, simple as that for me

Why are you playing White over Botman if you reckon Rashford likely to score?

I’m currently sat at 1.8m having my worst season ever with a very template (boring!) team and lagging behind in mini leagues I usually do well in. How is best to try break out of this? Captain seems almost removed from the game with Haaland and there doesn’t seem a ton of players to go for in other positions. My minor differentials in my mini leagues this week like Saka, Mitro and KDB once again all flopped.

Any ideas how to make some moves?

    Cheers & GL 🙂

        • 9 Years

I’ve went against him before though and been badly badly punished which has been a reason for my bad rank

    3. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      3 years, 1 month ago

I think there's a narrow window of opportunity right now to at least break the Haaland permacap routine, and possibly bet hard against City in the short term - like selling KDB despite the DGW. The way they're playing at the moment, Arsenal will wipe the floor with them

      1. RAFA THE GAFFA
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 1 month ago

Yeah I don’t think KDB is a good FPL pick tbh, will keep again this week just after the rest but he’s nowhere near his price tag! Also I’ve went against Haaland twice this season and that one of the main reasons I’m 1.8m !

        1. The Mentaculus
          • 4 Years
          3 years, 1 month ago

Same boat right here. Still, things have definitely changed at City. The goals last night were mostly from defensive errors & I don't think we'll see that kind of scoreline from them this weekend

    4. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      3 years, 1 month ago

I'm lower ranked than you but I still think there are ways. Differentials are key of course, have to try to get the jump on others with them. But Haaland can be bet against at the right time which may be now. City still not fully clicking and tough games coming up, he's had only one haul higher than 6pts from a game since GW13 and has only returned in 4 games since then, anyone else and you'd say he'd have been long off the captaincy board.

      1. RAFA THE GAFFA
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 1 month ago

Yeah agree but I’ve been hurt badly doing that and he can bang 3/4 at any moment! Comes with an extremely high risk

        1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
          • 5 Years
          3 years, 1 month ago

It is a risk but if you want to climb then you'll need to take it on weeks where you think others may do better. I took the chance on Rashford this week and he matched many of my ML rival's Haaland(TC)s, I didn't captain him the week before either and won't this week too. At our ranks there's no point in playing it safe

    Is Rodrigo nailed for now?

    1. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years
      3 years, 1 month ago

Yeah, if you're looking at the next 5 GW or so he will most likely start every game. Bamford's recurrent injuries mean he's going to be treated very gently. Rutter is a big threat to Rodrigo long term, and Marsch has definitely been willing to throw the younsters right in, but he hasn't played a minute since 12th November so he's probably not starting anytime soon.

One of the first names on the team sheet. Along with Gnonto right now. Both been really threatening. Bamford will be eased back with Sinisterra and Rutter has come on so we’ve lots of options but Rodrigo nailed.

Walker to someone makes the most sense to me. Either to Stones/Akanji if you want to stick with the City D, or Botman if you want to double up on the Newcastle D. Wouldn't recommend a second Arsenal defender just because I'm eyeing some sort of Almiron to Odegaard move for their double.

Bueno is the best cheap defender, as long as you aren't relying on playing him this week.

I'm 50/50 on Ederson. On the one hand, he's the smartest way into the City defense. On the other hand, he's the most expensive keeper and is on a team that doesn't face many shots (for save points) yet still doesn't keep many clean sheets.

      team dependant..
plans for BGW25? Brighton likely to blank, Spurs is a good fixture for Mitro, etc
two FT's could be gold next GW

Kepa vs Ward is a tricky one this week. Can either pull off a big surprise haul?

I'm playing Kepa. Liverpool looks toothless.

Is Martinelli at risk now with Trossard moving?

    Kepa
    Cancelo, Trippier, Shaw
    Salah, Rashford, Martinelli, Almirion
    Haaland (c), Kane, Mitro

    Ward, Andreas, Bueno, Patterson

    2 FT's, 0.6m ITB

Is Kepa, Cancelo & Patterson to Ederson, Gabriel & Estupinan worth a hit ?

Well, that's exactly the same team as me.

I think leave Patterson, prioritise the starting 11.

    Trippier captain anyone?

Haven't considered it, but now that I do, Palace were pretty good against United.. So, no, would look for someone with an easier fixture probably.
But wouldn't be surprised to see Tripps getting a double figure, again...!

So, after those fantastic performances and Peps glowing tributes, Mahrez should be a sure starter this gw and going forward..

    Right....,?

      And obviously KDB sure to start after his "rest" and being such a key first team player;

....after all its not like baldy to suddenly fall out with one of his favourites, is it...?

    Hit or 2 required here?

    Kepa
    Shaw Trippier Cancelo
    Salah Martinelli Rashford Almiron
    Mitro Kane Haaland
    Ward Andreas Bueno Patterson

    Thinking Salah, Mitro, Cancelo out?

    KDB, White, Toney in?

    Almiron/Andreas > Mitoma as well?
