Suspensions

In this regular article, we look at the latest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) disciplinary situation.

We also round up which FPL assets are already suspended – or returning from a ban – ahead of Gameweek 25.

A reminder: punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

The table above is taken from the Football Association website and details the cut-off points for the various yellow card thresholds.

We have passed the cut-off point for five yellow cards, so now the target to avoid is 10 cautions.

THE RACE TO (AVOID) 10 BOOKINGS

There are two players at immediate risk of a two-match suspension, though neither is well-owned from an FPL perspective.

Joao Palhinha (£4.9m) and Joelinton (£5.9m) are both on nine cautions, so face an uphill task to avoid a two-match ban. Palhinha has eight more matches to get through before he is in the clear, while Joelinton has nine. The Newcastle United midfielder isn’t in action in Gameweek 25, of course.

Four players are sitting on eight bookings, the most notable of whom from an FPL perspective is Ivan Toney (£7.7m).

Toney blanks in Gameweek 25 but then doubles in Gameweek 27, so he’ll be under serious consideration for some FPL managers after this weekend.

If he gets booked in his next two Premier League appearances, he’ll miss the second half of Double Gameweek 27 (away to Southampton).

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED OR RETURNING FROM A BAN

Manchester United and Newcastle United both blank in Gameweek 25 but when they return to Premier League action, they’ll have key midfielders back from three-match bans.

Casemiro (£4.9m) and Bruno Guimaraes (£5.5m) have now served their suspensions following straight red cards, with their returns a big boost to their respective clubs. Newcastle, in particular, have missed their Brazilian schemer in a winless three-match run.

Nick Pope (£5.5m) will be available in Gameweek 26, too, as the one-match ban he collected when being sent off against Liverpool on Saturday evening will be served in the EFL Cup final.

With Mario Lemina (£4.5m) also returning from a one-game ban ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Double Gameweek 25, there are no players currently flagged with a suspension in FPL.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

    which option is better:

    A) Salah, Tark, Watkins
    B) Trent, Gakpo, Darwin

Its replacing Cucu, Mitro and Bruno for a -4

Basing there are no injuries in the UCL, please help me out with some advice.
    Current rank: 15,097 😀
    Current team:

    Kepa
    Tarkowski, White, Beuno
    Andreas, KDB, Mahrez, Rashford
    Kane, Nketiah, Haaland
    (ward, shaw, rashford)

    Option A) KDB > Salah
Option B) White and KDB > TAA and Saka (-4)

Even though it is a -4 I feel it could work out. Saka is on fire and i dont know if Beuno will even get minutes.

I'm still very skeptical of Liverpool (and all the teams doubling this week). But maybe TAA is worth a punt here? Was looking at Shaw - James but maybe I just keep delaying that? Only issue is I aim to BB29 & don't want Trent in my team then so I am booking another FT in. James would be much more playable then with AVL LIV (compared to mci che for Trent).

I know... I'm tempted to ignore that though as it was such a weakened side without Thiago Silva & James, and there have been some encouraging signs recently. But you're probably right - I think I am better off delaying the decision of whether I'd want James on BB29 for a few more weeks

Mate Chelsea have been pretty rough all season. I am yet to be convinced by any of their players. Somehow Kepa has done me wonders though. However always go with your gut. If you want James get him. Otherwise you'll be cursing me when he scores xD

Having a terrible season but finally broke into the top 1,000,000 this week, yay.
Any input would be appreciated, thanks.
    All chips still intact.

    Current team
    Kepa (Ward)
White - Patterson - Walker (Shaw - Trips)
    Saka - Odegaard - (Bruno - Rashford - March)
    Kane - Haaland (Toney)

    A - Bruno + Toney > Salah + Gnoto
    B - Bruno + Toney > Gakpo + Darwin / Jota
    C - Bruno + Toney + Shaw > Gakpo + Darwin + Robertson (-4)
    D - Bruno + Shaw > Gakpo + TAA
E - None of the above

Feels a bit off to go so heavy on Liverpool and getting rid of Bruno and Shaw though.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying but I've a load of cash tied up in Trippier.

Worth using FH this week, rather than -8?

Subs: Ward / Rashford / Shaw / Trippier

    Akanji - Rotation
    Patterson - Injury/Match Fitness

    Mitrovic - Injury

Np. I'm also concerned about him long-term, but I'll be using my FTs to target replacing blankers with doublers as much as I can, perhaps saving some for 27/28, trying to get some BRE/BRI in while also minimising need to FH in 28 if I can.

It depends on how much you want to take advantage of the DGW (and how much that will yield) but personally Id prefer Shaw and Bruno over Salah and Tarko from here to the end of the season. So you are literally transferring out for a 1 week gain.- in my eyes. I hold similar assets see above.

A will cover you for the week, B also probably pays off. Will be some -4's around this week as people have to sort out 11 playing so probably not going to hurt you as much as it normally would

Planning the moves with these five:

    Shaw - Trippier - White
    KDB - Bruno

    A: Bruno + Trippier > Gakpo + TAA (10)
    B: Bruno + Trippier + KDB > Salah + TAA + Gakpo for -4 (10)
    C: Bruno + Trippier + Shaw > Salah + Tarkowski + Ream -4 (11)

I just feel Gakpo is short term and it's a transfer waiting to be made. B looks most sensible, but is selling KDB for -4 away to Bournemouth really sensible?

Looks like people are happy to offload Bruno?

I think he is back to his best form.
Only getting the points lately that his play has deserved in earlier weeks.
Getting more box action since Antony dropped out of the side (and may be kept that way when Casemiro is back)
    Is on penalties.
    Utd are riding high.

Most are losing him for Salah, who has 3 games in next 2 GWs to Bruno's one (which happens to be away at 'Pool).

I agree he is a great option, but on balance, probably not for the next two GWs.

    Kepa Ward
    White Castagne Bueno (Shaw) (Trippier)
    Saka Andreas Mahrez (Bruno) (Rash)
    Kane Nketiah Haaland

    2 ft’s:

Thinking Bruno / Mahrez > JWP / Salah

Gives me JWP for the dbl in 27 and a sure starter.

    Any other ideas please.

IMHO JWP's returns are far too irregular for him to be regarded as a good option for your squad.

The only time I'd consider him would be on FH if Saints had a nice DGW.

Fair enough thanks Conners but I’d probably just be keeping him until 27’s dbl and I’ll get 25 out of him

Having an 'orrible season at 600k and hoping to make up some ground over the coming GWs.

    Thoughts on

    Kane + Fernandes + Trippier > Nunez + Gakpo + TAA for -4

Mo probably somewhat sensible but tempted to (c) Nunez if he's involved midweek.

    Ederson

    Kilman - White - *Trippier

    Saka - Mahrez - *Rashford - *Fernandes

    Haaland - Nketiah - Kane

Subs: Willy - *Mitoma - *Burn - *Botman

    *=Blank

Reluctant to lose Kane and Trippier over the other 2 Newcastle defenders you have.

Would probably do Fernandes and Burn/Botman to Trent and Gakpo if you can afford.

Cheers! I will be making moves closer to deadline but still not convinced by Spurs in general and weighing up whether that Kane cash is better spent elsewhere in the coming weeks.

    Akanji > Gomez? (-4)

I think I prefer an everton defender to Gomez.

Do we think Patterson will get any minutes in 25? Currently have a defence of him, Gabriel and Bueno...

If fit may get 10 minutes or so in one of the games

Sounds about right. Still not sure it's worth a hit to swap him out.

    Bruno and botman out

    for

A salah and bueno - exact funds but cap salah

B TAA and Gakpo - 1.5 m itb leaves wiggle room for changes for dgw27

Think B may bring in more points as long as Gakpo doesnt lose out too much time to Jota etc.

B as I think you're gonna need that wiggle room for the later doubles.

If you have Saka, then I think he's a better captaincy option than Salah. If no Saka then put the armband on Trent

Yeah i have saka so he will get the armband and i have triple arsenal. Gakpo and TAA will hopefully compliment them and lets hope gakpo doesnt get dropped/rested.

Don't think there are any good options really. Maybe JWP.

What do people make of this:

I've been chatting with a mate who's a Villa fan ... he's adamant Watkins is due a barren spell.

He's a fan of Watkins, but says Villa fans get frustrated with him because he gets in to good positions, better positions than most but isn't as clinical as you'd like ... Plus he's not as technical as others in the squad.

Although he's hit 4 in 4, he consistently gets 1 in 3 games across the season. He will score somewhere in the region of 12 goals a season, give or take 4 goals. So unless he goes against what he's done everywhere he's been, he's likely to go on a little barren spell.

Of course he's only got 7 so far this season, so this run could continue and he could still land on 1 in 3 with a barren spell later on.

And it's one person's opinion, so effectively meaningless. But what do we think?

I personally wouldnt buy Watkins anyway. Too many better choices, in midfield or attack. His ceiling is low.

Massively overperforming his xG so could be right

    For the DGW

    Darwin and Gakpo and Mahrez

    Or

    Nketiah and Salad and McNeil

Your head would say A but all of those are at risk of rotation. If you were guaranteed to have them all play id go A. Decisions decisions
