It’s not just Arsenal and Liverpool who ‘double’ in Gameweek 25 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers also play twice.

The Toffees host Aston Villa before taking on the league leaders at the Emirates, while Wolves have a double-header of away games at Fulham and Liverpool.

In this article, we see if there is anything to like about the ‘other’ Double Gameweek 25 sides and if any players stand out as FPL targets.

EVERTON UNDER DYCHE

TEAM
Minutes per expected goal (xG)Minutes per expected goal conceded (xGC)
Post-Dyche82 (14th)75.9 (=6th)
Pre-Dyche93.9 (16th)56.1 (19th)

We’ll begin by acknowledging that three games is a microscopic sample!

The new Everton boss has only been at the helm since Gameweek 22 but even in that short space of time, the numbers are what you’d expect from a Sean Dyche-led side: solid at the back, so-so up top.

In both home matches, against Arsenal and Leeds, the opposition were kept to an expected goals (xG) total of under 1.0.

At the other end, they’re bottom-half material for everything from total shots to efforts on target.

But those Dychean trends continue, as Everton are ranked first for successful crosses and joint-second for attempts from corners per game since Frank Lampard exited. Over 40% of the Toffees’ xG under Dyche has come from set plays.

PLAYERS

Above: Everton players sorted by shots in the box (In) since Sean Dyche took over

And there’s a seamless segue from the last section as Everton’s set-piece threat is underscored by James Tarkowski‘s (£4.3m) lofty position in the above table.

Perhaps as much of an indictment on the rest of the team, Tarkowski also betters all of his teammates for expected goal involvement (xGI, 1.11) since he was reunited with his former Burnley boss.

We haven’t seen Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m) much because of injury but it’s clear that he’s got the skill set to prosper under his new manager’s get-it-wide-and-cross-it approach, with four chances – two of them headed – arriving in his hour-long run-out against Arsenal.

Anyone else finding the permutations around chip strategy and transfers impossible to navigate?

Feels to me that can't commit to any strategy without the FA cup information from next week, but then that of course impacts how many doubles go for this week.

    Complete headache!

Agree. It all depends on the FA cup results. That's the reason I am not overcomitting and went with just one change which I feel is necessary.

Its a bit complicated surely. But im just planning to get the best Pool options and have a route to get Mitoma & Toney for GW27 for now till we have more info.

This has led me to deciding to just gamble and roll FT this week and hope for the best. I'd much rather utilise an extra FT in planning for a DGW in which I have much more desired targets (short and long-term) to aim for rather than gambling on a change that I don't really want to make and that may make future GWs even more difficult to optimise my team for

At the same time, if you load up on Liverpool and then Leeds beat Fulham in the cup, you gain a huge advantage over those who didn't get Liverpool players in. It's just going to come down to the cup results

It's true. But on current form Fulham should be the favourites. It's definitely a risk, but similarly I really don't think I'd fancy using up an attacking spot for DGW29 on a Liverpudlian away to City and Chelsea so I'm just going to go with it

I agree. I fear it will look like impossible to navigate well even when we know all fixtures. But at least it should be same for most of us.

    Kepa
    White Tarkowski Patterson*
    Salah Bruno* Saka Andreas
    Haaland Nketiah Gnonto

    (Ward Shaw* Rashy* Trippier*)
    1FT & 3.2m

    A) Shaw ➡️ TAA -4
    B) Bruno & Shaw/Patterson ➡️ Gakpo & TAA -8
    C) Bruno & Gnonto ➡️ Gakpo & Darwin -8

Leaning towards A as im not sure about mins for Gakpo & Darwin with Firmino & Jota back.
    Thoughts?

I agree its a slightly surprising omission. I think strategy no1 would actually more sense with BB29 rather than 34. Judging from the comments down here, there's quite a few us (myself included) aiming to BB29

This for me. If you're not going to be loaded up on these around GW27 then FH may be your best bet but currently I have 7 from these teams and will have at least 9 by GW27

Looks like this for me on BB29:

          Kepa | Sánchez
          Estupiñán Shaw James Trippier Schär
Mitoma Rashford Maddison | Saka Ødegaard
          Watkins Felix | Haaland

            • 4 Years
            3 years, 5 days ago

Very close to my plan. The Raya/Sanchez combo looks great but I'll probably stick with Leno, and consider Øde - March. Up top I think I'll have Iheanacho & then decide between Toney/Felix

            1. Ze_Austin
              • 7 Years

Felix and Watkins are there due to GW28: Kane and Toney to Felix and Watkins for free in GW28, then White to Shaw in GW29, then Watkins and Kepa to Kane and Raya in GW31

If nothing else arises, of course

              Most here are long-term picks

That's the thing with the plan

Even if a player doesn't do well in GW29, he's likely going to be in my team for 3+ GWs anyway

the only draw back with a BB target for dgw is that it can blindside you with transfers to try and get the perfect 15 15 out.

Inevitably someone misses out and the auto sub would have kicked in.

I know it can work out well but to use a phrase can be sub optimal in the build up and post games sorting your squad out...

Albeit a WC after would help.

They're not trying to get you to do anything, just their personal opinions. Also, why would you not want Haaland at home to Liverpool? Or Saka at home to Leeds for example? Two best teams in the country

Because there's doublers that will out score them. Haaland hasnt been great last few weeks. So you select him if you want ha

it's personal choice of course but I think FH is best to navigate the big blank that's most likely in gw28.

I think you can get a bigger net gain in barren weeks rather than bumper weeks when it's points and doubles all round.

Alternative is just the 1 transfer to do Martinez > white.

    Decent article.

I've got Tarkowski and don't want to double on Everton in defence but if not going all in on Liverpool it's a tricky choice about who to bring in for Shaw.

Can you give some suggestions as to what you are thinking as myriad ways to deal with it?

Thinking about getting rid of Schar and Shaw

If no interest in Liverpool players then accept the red arrow this GW and do Schar/Shaw to Tark and roll 2nd FT.

Yeah that's what I'm think about. Might be a big risk but surely after yesterday nobody really thinks highly about Liverpool?

If Mitro is out then consider Watkins/Nacho

I was thinking the same. I just did Martinez to Tarko last night (expected a price rise) and have kept 1 FT but may not to do it

Mitro and Bueno are the prime candidates but both could play.

So that leaves Bruno or Shaw. See if Man Utd come through unscathed against Barcelona first.

Salah or Kane for 25-28? Don’t think I have room for both if I’m going to target the fixtures. So it’s either:

    A. TAA Salah Darwin (-4)
    or
    B. Gakpo Darwin Kane (no hit)

B but Trent could return big if it's say 2-2 or something at Crystal Palace.

I know Liverpool have a good record there but this is definitely a Liverpool team regressing from being a top side consistently.

    Kepa (Ward)
    White Tark Patterson (Shaw Trippier)
Martinelli* Mahrez* Saka (c) Andreas (Rashford)
    Haaland Kane* Mitro*

    1 FT, 4.1m ITB
Which move would you do? (all for -4) :

    A. Mahrez + Mitro -> Salah + Maupay
    B. Martinelli + Kane -> Salah + Nunez
    C. Martinelli + Mitro -> Gakpo + Nunez

As someone who spaffed away their FH early on, I'm down to WC + BB & using WC this week - any glaring errors?

    Kepa (Raya)
    TAA James Tarkowski James (Estupian)
    Salah Saka Odegaard (March Mitoma)
    Haaland Darwin Nketiah
