Whether it’s about selling the absent Erling Haaland (£12.2m) or replacing the likes of Eddie Nketiah (£6.6m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.7m), many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are asking the same question as we head into Blank Gameweek 28. Should it be for Ollie Watkins (£7.3m) or Kai Havertz (£7.5m)?

Although the duo have previously shown a troll-like tendency to flop when called upon – like when 363,000 bought Havertz for Gameweek 9 of last season, only to see him blank in a 7-0 victory – being stubborn isn’t advised when they both follow up this promising home match with a Double Gameweek 29.

We’ll compare the two side by side in this Members article. We’ve currently got a seven-day free trial running, too, so you can try before you buy.

PLAYER FORM

They’ve had contrasting fortunes in the seven matches since Gameweek 21, although this period ended with both netting at the weekend.

Watkins has scored in six of his last seven, a spell where he leads for shots on target (11) and was only bettered by Haaland for big chances (8) and expected goals (xG, 4.24).

Best forwards from Gameweeks 21 to 27, ranked by Big Chances Total (BCT)

The Aston Villa man is now up to nine goals and 110 points for the season, placing him as FPL’s fourth-best forward behind Haaland, Harry Kane (£11.7m) and Ivan Toney (£7.8m).

Meanwhile, Havertz hadn’t netted in the six league matches before doing so at Leicester City, although his was the crucial Champions League goal that eliminated Borussia Dortmund last Tuesday.

TEAM FORM

Early thoughts on this -8 :

    No chips left, 1.8 itb

    Ward
    TAA. Trippier. Tarkowski
    Salah. Saka. Martinelli. Rashford
    Haaland. Toney. Iheanacho.

    Ederson. Mitoma. Estupinan. Bueno

    1) Bueno to Chilwell, play instead of TAA who is kept for dgw 29, Tarkowski benched

Gives me one extra 28 bgw and 29 doubler

    2) Salah to Maddison , -4

Gives me an extra bgw player and neutral/ better fixture dgw 29 player

    3) Haaland to Watkins , --4

Extra bgw 28 player and a dgw 29 instead of Haaland, nice fixtures this gw and after dgw29

    This gives me :

    10 BGW28 players
11 DGW doublers plus 2 arsenal mids; can also take a hit or two in 29 for any adjustments

In DGW29 maybe get MacAllister in for an Arsenal mid or someone else

CL is a farce this season. 1st Chelsea, now ManC completely given gifts by refs/ VAR. HAvent seen such horrible refereeing for a long time.
Completely no interest to watch when refs decide the game

What gifts were Chelsea given? Better team on the night last week. Referee doesn't make the rule on encroachment for penalties, ridiculous as it is, just enforces them.

Once there was even one player encroaching it's a retake, regardless of a clearance. Not disagreeing it's a stupid rule, there's plenty of stupid rules unfortunately. Too binary, not enough ref discretion. Handball rule is more of a headwrecker for me.

No, it has to be the encroaching player who gets the first touch after the rebound for it to be a retake. That player was within the D when it was taken.

Apologies but I thoughtit was any player that goes into the box before the ball was kicked regardless of whether they touch the ball or not. Because they could distract the penalty taker.

if thats the case each & every penalty needs to be retaken..even the scored ones.. Whats more, the stuttering approach by Havertz, Jorginho, Bruno, etc should be disallowed.

Have you seen penalties being taken before? Half the players are in the box every time

                  2 years, 9 months ago

Yes, I have. The rules are as follows:

If the attacking team encroaches on the box and the spot-kick is scored then it must be retaken. If it is missed, then an in-direct free-kick is awarded.

If the defending team encroaches on the box and the spot-kick is scored then the goal stands. If the penalty is missed, then it is retaken.

And finally, if players from both teams encroach on the box, as was the case in last Tuesday's Champions League last-16 second-leg clash at Stamford Bridge, then the penalty is always retaken - regardless of the outcome.

                    2 years, 9 months ago

And, in practice, these rules are never applied because if they were over 50% of penalties would be retaken. They are only applied in the case of the infringing player touching the rebound first

Evening all. Got a slight dilemma with my FPL team and looking for some advice. I still have all of my chips left but unsure on whether to use my FH/WC now, or whether to take some hits and wait for a better GW. Here’s my team:

    Kepa - Ward
    Saliba - Trippier - Shaw* - Ait Nouri* - N. Williams*
    Odegaard - Saka - Rashford* - Andreas* - Mitoma*
    Kane - Toney - Haaland*

So out of a possible 15 players, it looks like I’ll only have 7 available - is it worth playing the FH? Only have 1 FT and 4.0mil in the bank.

    Thanks in advance!

It won't change. The fpl rules say that 'For the avoidance of doubt, points awarded in-game are subject to change up until one hour after the final whistle of the last match of any given day. Once the points have all been updated on that day, no further adjustments to points will be made.'

When a goal against Stoke City was awarded to Kane after the day of the match a few seasons ago, the goal wasn't given to him in FPL and I believe it's in the rules that no changes will be considered after bonus points are awarded.

So, the game has well and truly gone, courtesy of VAR.
Ball travels 20 metres before defender's arm blocks its path (Southampton against Man Utd), no penalty.
Ball travels 15cm and flicks defender's arm while he's jumping, penalty.
Best of all, the referees watch several long replays before giving both decisions. Absolutely farcical

    1. jacob1989
      • 3 Years

i think they refs just automatically overturn the original whenever called up by VAR. They dont even check. Just see a still photo rather than seeing the video... They dont consider that football is a game played at breakneck speed. Just zoom in and slow motion 1 event

        • 6 Years

It would be nice to see a ref go over to the box, watch a replay and say to the VAR 'I get what you're saying, but I don't see it as clearcut either way so I'm sticking with the call you pay me to make'
