Here, two-time Indian FPL champion Lateriser explains why Erling Haaland’s five midweek goals shouldn’t stop us from briefly letting him go.

The FFS Pro Pundits 34

Most FPL managers I know are in the market for a forward this week, including myself. Now that likely involves the sale of a certain Erling Haaland (£12.1m), which is a scary proposition, especially given the damage he did in RB Leipzig this week when scoring five goals.

Before we get into the reasoning behind a Haaland sale, I want to take a second to acknowledge his brilliance which shone even brighter in his post-match interview. People tend to shrug off a lot of his goals as just tap-ins but the amount of thinking that goes into his positioning is incredible.

Watch this video and see how hungry he is as a player.

Obviously – after that interview – you will pause before selling Haaland but, firstly, I see selling him and quickly buying him back as one additional transfer rather than two.

That’s because selling Ivan Toney (£7.8m) to your striker of choice will likely already be pencilled in, especially after the yellow card against Southampton puts him one away from a two-match suspension.

He could even get that 10th booking in Gameweek 28, right before many will Bench Boost. So Haaland comes straight back for a Gameweek 29 home game against leaky travellers Liverpool.

To cite how juicy that fixture could potentially be, only five teams have a worse away record for minutes per expected goals conceded (xGC) than Liverpool. That said, I can’t resist the temptation of one game versus three, which is why I’m likely to sell him this week.

HAALAND REPLACEMENTS

    RMWC

    Kepa Ward
    Trippier Chilwell Botman Cash Gabriel
    Rash Mitoma MacA Mad Saka
    Toney Kane Watkins

Enough ITB for Toney -> Haaland

I selected Cash also in my WC team - mainly for his attacking threat but the stats would suggest that Villa are in bottom third for shots conceded, exacted goals against etc. So I'm really debating his selection but can't find others (that play 28). Rest of defence is Tripps, Chile, Bot, Estu.

Yes I kind of also selected Cash because he plays this gameweek (with a very good fixture) and doubles.

I can't go with Estu because then I'd be down to 11 GW28ers (already have Mitoma, Mac A, Rash)

Something I am considered tbf. Just the slight rotation threat and both Steele and Kepa looking likely to blank in GW32.

It’s not that important of a decision considering how well we’re now playing, Arteta has got everything right but I’m just not convinced by Ramsdale

Ramsdale is clear of Martinez and essential to the way Arsenal are building from the back. This is much more important than having someone good at saving pens.

Best plan here? 2FT and 4.6m ITB. Leaning towards C.

    A) GW28 March to Maddison
    GW29 Pinnock & Martinelli/Saka to Chilwell & March/Mac (Free)

    B) GW28 March & Haaland to Maddison & Watkins
    GW29 Pinnock & Martinelli/Saka to Chilwell & March/Mac (-4) or just one for free
    Haaland back in GW30

    C) GW28 March, Haaland & Pinnock to Maddison, Watkins & Chilwell (-4)
    GW29 Martinelli/Saka to March/Mac
    Haaland back in GW30

    Kepa
    Trippier, Pinnock, Gabriel, Schar
    Saka, Martinelli
    Kane, Toney

Raya, Estupinan, Mitoma, March, Rashford, Haaland

C is obviously better than B because the only difference is that you get Chilwell this GW.

C, whilst harder to compare to A, looks better than A imo

Most people are going B or C. But i bought Haaland at 11.6 so currently cannot buy him back (selling Toney who is on 2 YC's. Cant by Chilwell for a single transfer as 0.1 short for that, and don't like James atm.

Wish i didnt have Henry > Pinnock

      Macallister over March

      and Saka>Martinelli/Ode

      Not the best planning lol

I am wondering to hold Haaland, buy Watkins next week for Toney

With Zinchenko playing 120 minutes is there a risk of Tierney starting v Palace in which case is he the one to move to Chilwell (particularly if plan was to move him out in 29)?

Look at my WC 1st post - very similar for reasons I'm about to go into

Only differences are Steele, Zinch, Schar, Ode vs Ward, Gabriel, Botman, MacA

Cancelling out Steele vs Ward, Zinch vs Gabriel, Schar vs Botman, the only diff is that you have Ode vs my Mac A but you plan to get in March (who effectively cancels with Mac A) from next week anyway

Pretty much the decision is do you think having Ode this week (over say playing Schar) is worth spending a transfer on vs saving a FT.

Yes I agree that Arsenal mid is better this GW

But a transfer to get Haaland back in is already booked.

So I think that that extra FT saved will stop a 4 point hit at some point in the future probs. Then the comparison becomes is Ode this GW worth 4 points more than say, Schar. Not sure...

Is Rash to Maddy this week, and then Martinelli to Rash next week (for free) a sound plan to tweak team below?

Or should I avoid the Rash hokey cokey and just do Haaland to Watkins, and then decide on Maddy move next week? (Or maybe Zinch > Chillwell?)

Have FH, WC, TC + BB still available, but looking to take (-)8 to get 10 for this GW and set up for BB29. Right decision?

    TAA --> Chilwell
    Haaland --> Kane (-4)
    Salah --> Maddison (-4)

    Kepa
    Trippier -- White -- Mykolenko
    Saka
    Watkins -- Toney

    Ward -- TAA -- Haaland - Salah -- Rashford -- 3x BRI (Estu,Mac,Mitoma)

Decent moves but not sure I like the -8 when you have FH (and other chips to use down the line). Guessing you have a plan for those? Or is the idea that setting up for DGW29 BB at same time kinda spreads the hit(s)?

      1. The Count of Monte Cristo

Yes, it has been the latter. Been setting up over past few GW's.

I'm not averse to FH'ing, but I feel this side will still score well. I feel FH is worth more than this 8 point hit.

WC now. FH mean less at the end of the season unless it is a double GW.

Don't want to WC as I feel team is set up well with the players I want for DGW29's Bench Boost.

For me it's either FH or transfers.

    Team ATM

    Raya, (DDG)
    Henry, Botman, Trippier, Estupinian, White
    Saka, Maddison (Mitoma, MacCallister, Rashford)
    Kane, Toney (Haaland)

    1ft 1.1ITB
    A. Estu to Chilwell 0.1 short (don't trust James fitness yet)
    B. Haaland to Watkins, sell for toney GW29/30 0.2 short to bring back (bought for 11.6)
Having Saka>another Arsenal mid, MacCallister>March, not the best planning

Bit stuck now, maybe > Estu and MacCallister to Chilwell and Almeron(-4)?

    GW29 Toney to Watkins?

I want to wait and see if Brighton do get DGW31, to bring Estu back, and of cause Toney 9 YC caution. I can see it this weekend.

Estupinan and March to Chilwell and Maddison or

    If possible why.

It really depends on your planned transfers. I wouldn’t want to sell a Brighton midfielder.

Estupi > Chilwell seems good but if you’re going to play Henry instead in GW29, then you should just sell Henry.

Don't suppose you can offload Henry and March? If so, they would be my 2 to move.

Was going to suggest this but assume not possible else it would have been an option.

I think Estupinán outscorees Henry more than Mitoma outscores March, hence I would say to side with B. Not a fan of BRE defence.

Estupinan and March to Chilwell and Maddison . You can do Estu over Henry next week?

We're already at Wembley in the Papa Johns this season (lol!). Just passed 30,000 ticket sales today so should be e decent event anyway, but would prefer a play-off final.
