Friday night sees league-leaders Arsenal host bottom-of-the-table Southampton as Gameweek 32 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) gets underway.

Kick-off is at 20:00 BST.

There is a huge amount of interest in this match for FPL managers, particularly those who have tripled up on a Free Hit. The good news is that all of the key Arsenal assets start, including Oleksandr Zinchenko, who had been nursing a groin issue. That means Kieran Tierney drops to the bench.

Elsewhere, Granit Xhaka misses out through illness and is replaced in the starting XI by Fabio Vieira, who joins Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard in the engine room. Further forward, Gabriel Jesus is flanked by Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

As for Saints, Ruben Selles makes three changes to the side beaten by Crystal Palace in Gameweek 31, as Romain Perraud, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Adam Armstrong come in for Ainsley Maitland-Niles – who is ineligible to face his parent club – Kalmaldeen Sulemana and Joe Aribo.

GAMEWEEK 32 LINE-UPS

Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, White, Holding, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Partey, Odegaard, Vieira, Saka, Martinelli, Jesus

Subs: Turner, Tierney, Smith Rowe, Nketiah, Kiwior, Trossard, Jorginho, Nelson, Walters

Southampton XI: Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Bella-Kotchap, Perraud, Walcott, Ward-Prowse, Lavia, Elyounoussi, Alcaraz, A Armstrong

Subs: McCarthy, Lyanco, Caleta-Car, Aribo, Orsic, Onuachu, S Armstrong, Sulemana, Diallo

Just want to give a massive shout-out to White, been my best player and rank gainer all season. And because a lot of people are just brain-dead following Andy and the other "community influencers" he was under the radar. No idea why he wasn't getting more love and attention over Gabriel who was still being pushed.

Not just 3 points, I was talking "all season" if you read it properly and due to his ownership the rank gains were good. One blank in last 9 games.

Tbf I think the Marti, Saka, Ode triple up was much more profitable than keeping an Arsenal defender. Obviously this is a hindsight comment. But kicking myself for not using the 2 transfers to take out my Arsenal defender (Gabriel) weeks ago

Yeh, I tripled up on them in Jan after getting rid of Saliba.
Can't bring myself to split them now, even though every week I think of selling one.

I just don’t see the need, really. Insult him for his FPL advice or rank or something else. I’m not his no.1 fan by any means but he has history with this site and anyway, physically he looks far healthier than he did so is clearly working on it.

I've mings fmsince WC6 & no arsenal defence weeks so white points don't bother me
On one hand your complaining about him going under the radar but if he was so highly owned then you wouldn't be getting ranks so instead being so bloody negative why can't you just be happy without having a pop

Read your original comment. It's not the fact you're praising white. It's the fact your having a content go at content creators & calling people brain-dead for not having him.

If he had been promoted like you think he should've e been then he wouldn't be a differential & wouldn't have you rank.

Who did you sell him for?

Honestly, second highest defender for 4.5M and mostly low owned all season and some people here think he wasn't a great buy. Same people spending 7m on Robbo and waiting for him to "come good".

      1. FPL_trail_runner
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 2 days ago

Ya ive taken many years out before at times

Did a few top 5k and top 10k before and then left for a good 8 years

Back again this year but not enjoying it as much, perhaps due to how close the ranks are that one small decision can massively effect rank

Im 70k with 9 players to go and the one move that was my alternative would have me inside the top25k

Not a fan of such swings really and probably with the high number of players now + people using analytics its going to be normal

10+ years ago such one off games didnt mean a 50% red arrow due to one goal

Too much spoon feeding and paid for advice parasites have made the game a lottery. Maybe looking for some different leagues next season such as a less than 10% ownership league or a hit a week league. Could be more fun.

    3. Tomerick
      • 11 Years

I’ll keep playing but it’s definitely less fun than it used to be. The group think has reached untold levels due to the rise of influencers which causes the swings. The pricing was way off this season too.

      1. FPL_trail_runner
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 2 days ago

I think the more i think about it its the close ranks and huge swings than can happen due to this

Im 25 points approx from 20k (i.e if i got Saka (c) as my plan) but also about 20 points from almost 200k

the factors you mention for sure lead to closer ranks and worse swings

I'm finding it helps to be top of my league (or 2nd)

at 1 point was bottom (grrrr)

might get to 4th/3rd this year. have had some BAAAD weeks, feels better up the table

i am top of all my leagues, was 50k before kickoff , and 55k at 88min

Saka put me 20k down, which is ridiculous and worse since he was my planned in FT all week as captain

Just feel im done with the game, good weeks are just relief and the bad are not worth it

And i have had a hell of a season also going from over 4 million week 8 to 50k

            Yep

Was why i initially stopped playing after a decade when i felt i hadnt any more to aim for with alot of top finishes

Now it feels with the close ranks alot more luck involved and just passing weeks hoping to be on the right side of close calls

If it affects you that badly then definitely a good idea to take a break.

I took a break one year after I was spending too much time on my phone with FPL.
Now I just do moves on deadline day, don't bother with price rises throughout week etc

This was big for me. Made a rule to only make moves on deadline day. Stops the obsessing during the week.

Also took a break from Live FPL - great resource, but the EO stuff is another side of the game I can do without.

Dropped out of all money leagues. Used to clean up, but much more of a lottery these days as most of the "skill" aspect of the game has gone. Still play MLs with mates, but I don't really care about them.

But yes im pretty certain im done now

Will just go ahead with the plan and try to ensure the top100k

Maybe in longterm its better i didnt do the Saka (c) which wouldnt have made me realise the need to stop playing long term

Nah, i think its the best choice

Have played the game for enough years to know

        2005- 2013 and 2020 to now

Not liking the close ranks and how much is decided by luck now

Can never recall so many brutal rank drops before , which makes sense since peoples rank were more spread out, less information, less teams to copy etc

Was a nice run , as ive said before each week is just relief to maintain top 50k and not much else

Personally I think to probably be able to sanely enjoy the game you have to truly learn to understand how much luck is in the game.

The template squad is fairly obvious for people who have played FPL for a while and follow football.

Looking at form or fixtures is fairly basic, so after that point it's pretty much down to luck of the draw. We have no control whether a player scores or not each week.

Once you accept that then in my opinion you have to realise that big scoring game weeks are incredibly lucky, and so accept that luck when it happens and appreciate the luck you've been dealt

This then makes it much easier to accept the low scoring weeks when all of your players score 1 pointers

That is just the nature of life. Sometimes things go one way and other times they don't. It's a lot easier to deal with this game when thinking this way

        For sure,

And i am and have been of this mindset for a long time.

Its still hard to rationalize it with the natural emotion when things go wrong

To be clear i dont care if player A goes big and everyone has him, fair enough if i drop, but the fact that ranks are so close and a player i literally had on confirm as captain can drop my rank 50% red is hard to take , even when i understand the luck factor

I guess im saying the rewards and and close ranks are not worth the volatility

In every other week Rashford to Saka (c) was my move, was commenting on it here all week telling people who were selling it was foolish to remove saka as i expected him to go off due to the weakness of Soton on the left (check my posts there is literally 10+ on Saka being a must this week)

and i didnt protect my rank simple because i hoped Rashford in 3 weeks for his double could make up the ground

Again yes luck was against me but the hard part is the combo of the huge rank drop + it being from the one player transfer that was a 50:50

Ive had much worse rank drops this year e.g going against Haaland thant never affected me, this one was different

The Chelsea game should be favourable, but this dip in form is part of the reason why I ended up only going with Saka and Martinelli on FH, yea they're still scoring of course, but they're far from convincing at the minute. Against a side that could defend their box even just a bit better they may have only gotten the one goal tonight

I have WC, BB & TC, Is this the correct plan…

•WC 33 - Bring in as many DGWs (Rash, 2 x GKs, Bowen, Salah, Grealish…)
    •BB DGW*34 - Haaland (c)
•TC DGW 36.. (Isak, Trip or Mitoma..)

    Current team..

    Kepa Ward
    TAA*, Trip, White, Mings, Bueno
    Gakpo*, Mitoma* Saka, Marti, Olise
    Haaland*, Kane, Watkins

Recent price changes mean I think I need to identify a nailed £4.5 mil or below 4th defender behind Trippier, Schar and Estu.
Could play a GW35 fixture when Newcastle play Arsenal would be nice.
My current thinking is one of:
    1) Mitchell (Palace on paper have their worst remaining fixture in GW35 though)
    2) Moreno (Villa great form but West Midlands derby GW35 and fixtures not amazing)
    3) Zouma (Another GW34 doubler although City away fixture....)
    4) Castagne (Its Leicester.....)
    5) Tsimikas + stick pins in my Robbo voodoo doll

Have a double Newcastle defence lol. Can't help that without a free hit. FH GW15 was taken away by FPL Towers, same happened to Magnus Carlsson. It was the mad Haaland late news GW just before the world cup.

Have a TC left for Haaland GW34 hopefully, just 20 points ahead of my rival who has played his free hit of Saka Martinelli and Gabriel. I just had the former two. My cousin in 3rd has a FH and TC left and she capt Saka this week lol

I thought Selles talked alot of sense..

Nobody cares about your rank at the end of the day. It's pointless obsessing over it.

There are mini-leagues for top 10K and 1K finishes, another for multiple top-10K, etc

You get a career as a content creator
Personaly I care more about winning ML rather than overall rank. Last year ML winner finished at 80K. This year I'm leading both & only at 50K
Would rather finish 50K & win ML than inside 10K & come 2nd in ML

Would you agree there is no outstanding match to target GW33, so rolling a FT in preparation for DGW34 makes sense?

I agree with everything you’ve ever said.

Yeah. I'm also rolling because 2 FTs makes it easier to stretch out an upgrade, and keeps you flexible for injuries.

I may mini-WC (-4) in 34 as the team is comparatively short of doublers.

If Liverpool look outstanding tomorrow I may do something similar to get Trent or Salah into the team.

Yep rolling FT & then doing
      Saka/kane/ake> Salah/Solanke/TAA for -4

Doing Kane to Haaland and Saka to March next week, then MArtinelli to someone the following week
