FPL Double Gameweek 34 Wildcard drafts: From template to differential

Although 97% of the top 10k have already used their second Wildcard of this Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, this number is just 36% overall.

With time running out to use it, Double Gameweek 34 will be a popular time to activate amongst the FPL community, as six teams play twice.

There are also two more ‘doubles’ to plan for in Gameweeks 36 and 37.

Indeed, just short of 10% of early responders in our on-site poll are activating the chip this week.

Some managers will try to play it safe but others have lots of ground to quickly make up. Here are a few Wildcard drafts for those with different intentions.

DRAFT ONE: THE STRONG TEMPLATE

Players in this first squad will have high ownership percentages by Saturday’s deadline, with Liverpool pair Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) the subject of more and more transfers in.

There is triple coverage of Manchester City and Brighton and Hove Albion but nobody from Arsenal. Future free transfers can bring Bukayo Saka (£8.4m) and Gabriel Martinelli (£6.9m) back into the equation but such a late Wildcard means prioritising the immediate short-term.

Also absent are Harry Kane (£11.5m) and Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.7m), with the squad already set to provide regular benching headaches.

    The strong template team has Isak playing over Estupiñán who has a DGW. I've got both but haven't serious considered that. Who the best option for DGW34 ?

    A) Isak (in a 3-4-3)
    B) Estupiñán (in a 4-4-2).

    Two decent Keepers, dont trust Ederson to get decent points for clean sheets.
    But dont know which Man City Defender can take his Man City spot, with rotation.
    Pick Good players with more games to play mainly.

    A few different questions in mind for GW34.

    1. Would you bench boost Steele (x2), Ødegaard (CHE), White (CHE) and Henry (NFO)?
    2. I can just afford White and Ødegaard to Shaw and Grealish. If prices are going up is that worth an early transfer?
    3. Can I afford to go without Trent and Mitoma?

    I currently have 9 players with 1 game next week. Plan has always been to BB in 34. With a hit I’d be down to 6 with just 1 game. Considering that and the City appealing fixtures in 34, would you forego the BB and TC Haaland instead?

      BB probably more powerful and I think 34 doubles are better so I'd probably try optimise BB. The transfers you mention look good.

      So BB would be Kepa, Tark, Moreno, Watkins? Hmm maybe just TC if you think you can cobble a BB together later. Maybe GW36 could work since there's decent fixtures for Chelsea / Brentford / Villa?

      Ederson is fine - you don't need DDG as well IMO - get Iverson or Steele as 2nd keeper and make use of the extra funds

      You don't have to worry whether Salah will start and play at least 60 minutes, whereas with De Bruyne you never know for sure.

      It is weird - if Haaland gets a hatrick, I get a 7-8% rank increase. If Grealish (who I don't own) assists just one of those goals, I stay unchanged lol

      I’m not sure how they fix it, but it does seem weird when EO means you can own a player and not captain them, then you are rooting for them to fail.
