Chip Strategy

Although 97% of the top 10k have already used their second Wildcard of this Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, this number is just 36% overall.

With time running out to use it, Double Gameweek 34 will be a popular time to activate amongst the FPL community, as six teams play twice.

There are also two more ‘doubles’ to plan for in Gameweeks 36 and 37.

Indeed, just short of 10% of early responders in our on-site poll are activating the chip this week.

Some managers will try to play it safe but others have lots of ground to quickly make up. Here are a few Wildcard drafts for those with different intentions.

DRAFT ONE: THE STRONG TEMPLATE

Players in this first squad will have high ownership percentages by Saturday’s deadline, with Liverpool pair Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) the subject of more and more transfers in.

There is triple coverage of Manchester City and Brighton and Hove Albion but nobody from Arsenal. Future free transfers can bring Bukayo Saka (£8.4m) and Gabriel Martinelli (£6.9m) back into the equation but such a late Wildcard means prioritising the immediate short-term.

Also absent are Harry Kane (£11.5m) and Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.7m), with the squad already set to provide regular benching headaches.

DRAFT TWO: FOR BENCH BOOST 37

How expensive would they have to make Haaland next season to make him anything other than first name in your squad?

14 I would think. Most expensive player fpl was CR7 14m when he was scoring for fun 1st time at Man U before he went to Real

      14 m
Would need to be about 16 m for me to disregard him from squad altogether.

Predicting right now they will price him at 12.5/13 because pricing is almost irrelevant now and puts most people off.

Bear in mind that salah got over 300fpl points in his first proper season but was still only priced at 13mil the following year.

        I wouldn't expect more than 14mil

      18m.

I read an analysis a while ago for Salah's 21/22 season and showed that if he guarantees 260+ pts, that any price under 21m is still worth it.

And with the way they've priced the rest of the players in the game this year, I think I'd be happy to pay 18m for Haaland and then have to play a budget friendly game. It's 18m not 21m purely because of how annoying he'd be to spread the funds around if he were to get injured.

Setting up for the double game week with the same 3x Brighton, 2x Man U, 2x Man C that pretty much everyone has BUT NO LIVERPOOL!

Is Chilwell and Kane to Jota and TAA for -4 enough? No Salah?

Could go full eggs in four baskets with Chilwell, Kane, Martinelli to Stones, Salah, Jota for -8.

    Bit OTT?

Hi gents, very first attempt at FH for 34, looking for opinions even if brutal haha

    Ederson
    TAA - Shaw - Estupinan
    Grealish - Rashford - Salah - Mitoma - March
    Jota - Haaland
    ______________________________________
    Iversen: Isak: Trippier: Botman

    1.3 left in the bank

Must admit I have absolutely no clue who to choose, or maybe double up on pool defence instead of Jota as the third asset and play Isak?
Grealish I’m nervy on playing both.
    Drop March and play Isak?

Eurghh, no clue, opinions needed and welcomed 🙂

    Thanks guys

I'd kind of like to know your team prior to GW34 to be honest. I feel like that team isn't too dissimilar to what people can field without a FH (maybe I'm just prepared in advance for this week though?)

Cheers Zen! Yeah I need to start working in players after this double to be fair for future doubles, but my team as it stands without a FH right now is:

        Raya
        Moreno - Shaw - Trips
        Martinelli - Mitoma - Salah - Saka
        Jota - Haaland - Watkins
        ____________________________
        Kepa: March: White: Tarkowski

Need to start moving the likes of Watkins, Marti/Saka, Moreno, White OUT

    2. TanN

Triple City is excellent on FH based on the fixtures (admittedly Grealish may get rested, but I wouldn't go for another City midfielder tbh, equally I wouldn't double up on City defence - alvarez might be a nice punt but could be a waste - better options).

I'm not Shaw on Shaw icl

Trent and Salah probs must haves

Mitoma and March are great picks.

I think Jota is probably the only question mark but tbh with firmino injured he'll get game time - even if nunez starts jota may start too, or at least start one.

      Summary;
I like all the picks except perhaps Shaw and Jota (but they probably make sense)

Grealish > KDB, no money invested in the bench, then rejig the rest to make it fit. Only DGWers, no Isak. You might have to lose either Rashford or TAA, you might not. But there is Robertson, Mac Allister, Dalot

      1. RICICLE
        • 3 Years

Cheers bud. Yeah i would prefer KDB rather than Grealish to be fair, could easily rejig about. ONLY DGW’ers is a good strict rule to abide by, even if it does mean ignoring Isak, which could have mind managed anyway in a single Gameweek.
Great alternatives for about’s there if i need to lose any of them.

I've a feeling Pep has that CL side in his mind and in a twist it does not have Mahrez in it (he was usually always the CL man). The one issue is you have Foden and Alvarez for his position too. When Foden was out it was a better punt.

Keeping those spots open is the best strategy. Don't think Mahrez is in the UCL eleven, so he could be used for PL games. Foden isn't bad either.

Those MCI punts are the highest-reward ones in the game.

    Raya
    Trippier, Shaw*, Estupinan*,
    Grealish*, Mac*, Mitoma*, Saka, Maddison
    Haaland*, Kane

    Kepa, Watkins, Schar, Chilwell

    A) Maddison & Kane > Salah & Isak
    B) Saka, Maddison & Kane > Salah, Rashford & Isak/Toney (-4)

Well they bought Kiwior for LCB and have Saliba, White, Tomiyasu and Holding for RCB cover. It would have been a bit overenthusiastic to sign another RCB without getting rid of one, and you can't do it all every window. Is Holding going to continue to be an off-pitch leader and positive influence if he he's 5th choice RCB?

Yeah Saliba's injury looks like it's cost them the league. But they did sign a CB just not a finished article in Kiwior.

I don't think at the time it would have made sense to bring in a super big name CB given that White could also fill in at CB (they double whammy of Tomiyasu AND Saliba is what's cost them).

I like the way you think there. It's very often not one player missing but a combination of players missing that causes trouble. Like for instance, that year when Liverpool lost all their cb, and tried Fabinho as cb, they had to reverse it as they lost too much of control in the midfield. Even if Fabinho might be a better cb than that young kid, what's his name, it worked better regardless of the difference in the individual quality.

White was supposed to be second cover, with eveb Tomiyasu abel to play there. But then Tomiyasu got injured too, ruining that plan.

free hit draft. took ten minutes and I'm really happy with it.

    Ederson
    TAA Shaw Dunk
    Salah Grealish rashford Mitoma Mac
    Haaland (c) Jota

    Iverson Martial Botman N. Williams

If theres no injury concerns im not going to tinker.

      1) Stones (more advanced role = potential for attacking returns)
      2) Dias (probably most nailed now that ake is injured, offers little in terms of attacking threat compared to stones)
      3) Akanji (more nailed than laporte)
      4) Laporte (least nailed, but should play for now with ake injured.

If Ake wasn't injured he would be 2nd probably.

In terms if punts - Walker unlikely to play, Gomez can play the stones role but unlikely to be trusted in league games, Rico minutes limited

Stones or Dias I guess, assuming you have some backup in case they are benched

I was all set to FH 34 (eventhough I will have a fairly strong team already) as my last chip of the season.

But when i did the first draft - and compared it to some of the other teams posted here - it was such a predictable and template team, eventhough i wanted it to be different (to make one last push up the table from 500k). Because of the teams involved (Man U, City, Liv etc) its very hard to make a differentiated selection. Its Trent, Shaw, Grealish etc.

Contemplating would i get more from FH'ing one of the other closing weeks. Interested if others thought similarly....

I wouldn't worry about having a team that's too different from the teams on here. You're still going to pass a lot of teams without chips left and those who've planned poorly, or not at all.

If you want to be different, pick a leftfield captain. Best of luck.

Presumably you'd be selecting players from outside of the favoured clubs with favourable looking fixtures then?

Otherwise many will still hold those core players anyway.

Yes, valid point. They may be popular picks but still may be at low ownership as their team form/fixtures only recently turned. The team i got just seemed so dull and predicatable. But like others have said, only FH'ers will have ALL of the 11 players at their disposal. Most teams will just have some.

I don't think it's realistic. I think you'll bet some joy on the wings with Ake injured and Laporte playing (probably).

If it was at the Emirates I'd be more nervous.

I can't get past the mis match of Haaland vs Holding

    Hi all,

Draught if wild card for 34.
This worth doing? Obviously focussing on attacking returns more so than defence

    Iversen/Steele
    Wan bissaka/coufal/dalot
    Gakpo/salah/KDB/mitoma/grealish
    Jota/Haaland

    Greenwood, botman, tripps.
Appreciate any feedback. Chasing 2 ML so trying to be as agressive as I can
    Cheers all

Does using 2 free transfers for Kane & De Bruyn to Jota and Salah make any sense?

3 vs 4 fixtures, Bruyne in danger of rotation in easier games on paper, Kane produces consistent mediocre scores and has a difficult away match.
Salah TC material with nothing but his personal game to worry about, Jota back in form.
