Hardly falling apart, I know KDB might be out for a while but given Mahrez & Bilva possibly leaving I'm leaning towards going with Haaland/Foden/Alvarez as my go to Citeh 3. I'm sure Alvarez will get more minutes this season. At 6.5m it gives me a front 8 of Saka/Odergaard/Rashford/Foden/Mbeumo with Haaland/Alvarez/Wissa up front... & 1.0m itb.

That's your opinion, & that's fine. In the absence of Toney & Brentford's decent first 4 fixtures I think it's a perfectly feasible means to afford the rest of my side

    4. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 8 months ago

Gundogan and Walker will be the biggest losses. But they'll be fine. Pep talked up Palmer last summer / year a bit, Phillips is due the typical City second season boost, looks like Gvardiol will join them, Kovacic is there and will fit in very well I think, Akanji was an excellent buy last year and has helped. They'll buy more players anyway I'm sure

The season they last did a mini restructure they did poorly (when Kompany left. Might be a treble hangover for a while before they power back up. Gundo and co will take tike to recover from, while De Bruyne out will not help.
Shake they have such good fixtures otherwise would ignore them.

The risk with Enciso and Pedro is you keep picking the one that comes on for 10 minutes and the one that starts is stuck on your bench. I'd pick a more nailed Brighton player which is probably Mitoma/March/Gross and a 4.5 forward.

      1. Mini League Fatigue

Cheers, considered this but slim picking in the 4.5m forward club, keeping an eye on Balogen in case he gets a loan move

I also think Pedro could do very well, record signing and etc

Trippier is a great example why the FPL twitter bubble is so dangerous. It works like this: Andy has an opinion. It then filters through the smaller FPL content creators until it becomes gospel and the settled opinion of all serious FPL managers. Trippier ownership is getting up to 40% and he could easily string together 5 or 6 double figure scores to cause your rank to plummet into the millions.

Not starting with Trippier just seems common sense to anyone who looks at the fixtures. The sheep following the dog for me is all the influencers going with Pickford. Dan 'Mate' seems to be the only one reacting against that pick.

I don't doubt that he will. Maybe even gets CS + A + 3 BPS on opening day. But I wouldn't pick any defender with City, Pool and Brighton (A) in the first 4

What I might think however is whether I want Botman, who does look underpriced, as if Trippier suddenly looks essential would I also want a second Toon defender? Maybe I do if they are getting clean sheets but maybe not. Especially if I want to leave space for Wilson or Izak.

I was assuming he'd be 4.5. But I don't think being 0.5 cheaper would make it a trap.

I think he's a t'riffic young keeper, but there are 4.5 keepers at better teams, esp Brighton and Brentford.

Yeah, I first mentioned Trafford the morning after the U21 final (July10ish?) as a possible 4.0 back up keeper & what limited replies thought he'd come in at 4.5m. Better options at that price

Leno waa strong for xGP & save pts last season but the early signs from Fulham are a bit worrying - Mitro, Willian, Solomon out, no replacements, Silva apparently unhappy. Think there's better options than Pickford. Like Andy, I'm mainly looking at Flekken / Verbruggen

Still trying to figure out why Jesus is so popular. 7 returns in 10 games (where he played 60mins+) after his return from injury, npxGI of 6.2. He's always looked good but I feel like he's always flattered to deceive and doesn't return enough. His best run last season was 8 returns in the opening 8 games, and that was heavily boosted by his 2g 2a v Leicester, and that's actually his most consistent run of returns over a course of games in 3 seasons. If you're looking for another Arsenal asset surely it needs to be one of the mids?

He's as involved a player could possibly be really for a forward in attacking play, touches in the box, etc. But it rarely ever translates into a regular stream of returns, he's not a consistent finisher and wastes chances a lot and this has been going on for years. He also tends to be a key factor in getting the best out of the likes of Odegaard and Martinelli in particular (so I would think Havertz will certainly benefit too) so why not simply double up with them? For what it's worth, Awoniyi had the same number of returns as Jesus in his last 8 games too in a far weaker side that scored far less goals

He's cheaper than Odegaard and Saka, and Martinelli feels less nailed for mins. Plus, of course, there's a perceived lack of good forward FPL options to start the season with and he's a good price to hop off and onto another player. A relatively known quantity with a decent baseline of attacking returns compared to his teammates with the best fixtures. Seems like a safe bet.

And Awoniyi scored 6 times more goas than Haaland in their last 4 PL appearances, so I would take the Awoniyi point with a grain of salt.

I don't really see any relevance with Haaland or City at all after the league was wrapped up. I've seen people saying "Arsenal only finished 5pts behind City in the end" but they took their foot off the pedal long before GW38

Haaland only played in one game after they'd won the league, so the other 3 are relevant (and I would say all 4, personally, given that Pep wants rhythm and they're going for CL)

It doesn't really mean anything in that scenario when you have nothing on the line, half of your team is missing from being hungover and the other half is being rotated and your main aim is to avoid injury and make sure you're match fit for games in other competitions. Arsenal still wanted to finish as close to City as possible and end the season strongly after enduring a fairly poor run given the standards they had set. Not the same as other points in the season I don't disagree, but if you're telling me City put anything near what Arsenal did in their remaining games then I can't agree

They had the PL on the line! As I said, Haaland only played in one game after they'd won the league. I think you're buying into a false narrative I've seen pushed a lot.

My point is that cherry-picking an Awoniyi streak is not particularly instructive. Awoniyi got more attacking returns than Martineli and Saka in those 8 games too, and Saka got fewer than Jesus. Awoniyi scored 6 goals in 4 games. You could use that to say that most (or all) other forwards are bad picks for the same reason you can for Jesus.

And so my overarching point remains that Jesus is about as good as the other 3 Arsenal attacking options under consideration. Let's forget about Haaland 😀

Wait I got confused by your wording when you said Haaland's last 4 games, I thought you meant City's last 4 😛

Anyway I don't disagree, I don't think that the last batch of games from last year is the only judgement by any means, but I do think it has context here with certain forwards that are options in FPL like Jesus, Awoniyi, Solanke, Wissa, etc. I just feel like when people need to move things around, if they have Jesus he'll probably be the first to go to make money elsewhere, while I feel like people will be reluctant to let go of the mids as they've generally been more consistent. I'm also prolonging this debate for no other reason than being pedantic because I'm overtired and in a silly mood

Yeah I could see him falling behind the Arsenal mids, particularly due to lack of clean sheets and the extra goal point (however much that is actually worth given the BPS).

Could also see him outperforming the mids, as well, tbh, with more attacking returns. And with more choice in midfield right now, it seems, people might become more impatient to move on Saka to Bruno, Maddison, Foden etc.

We'll just have to pick a lane and adapt later. Happy with Jesus myself for now 🙂

I see it as Arsenal highly likely to do well and score well. Goals and assists likely to be shared between Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli, Jesus and to a lesser extent Havertz and Trossard. Hard to call which of those is the best pick therefore, but probably worth having 2 of them.

Therefore it's as much a question of Fernandes vs Wilson/Watkins as Odegaard vs Jesus.

Lack of options is a factor.

      Watkins - Meh
      Wilson/Isak - tough fixtures
Nkunku - Pool GW1/wait and see

What about Alvarez- with Mahrez looking like he’s a goner, Silva not signing new deal and holding out for Barcelona to make offer, Gundogan away and KDB crocked you’d think Alvarez will get good gametime and helps in getting good midfield with Trent at the back

      Kelleher (Areola)
      TAA Gabriel Estupinian (Beyer,Bell)
      Salah Saka Foden Mitoma Mbeumo
      Haaland Wissa (Archer)

I do like the idea of a GW1 bb but not a fan of a GW2 WC. I'm definitely thinking of using the BB at the earliest opportunity though. I would be lovely to just concentrate on my starting 11 and not worry about fitting 15 nailed starters for 1 double gameweek of crushing disappointment and frustration. It's a great time to break away from the template and make a strong finish to the season.
