Mitrovic now refusing to play for Fulham so he can fullfill his childhood dream of playing in the desert.

It's not like he's being priced out of a move to a big club in Europe, and honestly I don't think you can say Fulham wanting £45-50m for him is that over the top given the market and his season last year. Quite the overreaction

I don’t know, they rejected two bids already from Saudi and have priced him at 54m

The player clearly wants to leave

I get that but he's only 2 years into a 5 year deal. Even £54m honestly doesn't seem like a ridiculous value to place on him in my opinion, 14g in 24 games in the PL is impressive, would surely have been at least close to 20 if he didn't get banned. Far too many players get rewarded for throwing toys out of the pram these days, if you want to enjoy the benefits of a long-term contract you have to accept that you have to do your part to uphold your end of the contract too

If a team in the PL came after him they’d ask for 54m which would probably be fair in todays market.

Fulham can’t just sell for a low price because they offer silly wages

Porro is very attacking, as I'm sure you know. Tongue in cheek comment, I get it.

        As per The Guardian:

What were the standout tactical details?
The biggest single one was Postecoglou’s demand for the full-backs in his 4-3-3 to get up and across in possession. The pioneer of this move, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, has one of his full-backs do it; Postecoglou seemingly wants both of them high and inside at the same time. It was particularly pronounced in the first half with Pedro Porro and Sergio Reguilón (remember him?). The wingers were pinned wide, allowing Spurs to create spaces inside and between the lines, although they did have the licence to cut in with the ball. The screening midfielder sometimes dropped into a back three.

I don't know if I see it happening. Tonali should take some setpieces from him and I think in general Newcastle have different routes to goals now with Barnes joining too. I have also seen suggestions that Tonali, while a talented player, might take a bit of time to settle into Howe's system as he's not a perfect fit just yet for what Howe will likely want from a 6, so that may have an impact on clean sheets

      1. Hairy Potter

Tonali might just slot in as the right sided 8 in place of Longstaff. It's where he played against Rangers.

Maatsen has had 2 season long loan spells at Coventry & Burnley . He was very raw when he came to Coventry but under the coaching of Adi and management of Robins he improved immeasurably.Burnley had him last season and he was one of their best players. More than capable stand in if Chilwell gets injured and way better than Cucurella

Just watched the highlights of the Liverpool game after reading Lateriser's article. I must admit, I'm terrified that my draft leaves out Salah, but I'm not as excited as L is about Trent.

He's assuming Klopp will continue with his 3-box-3 formation. If he does, Trent will have two creators ahead of him and I suspect his role will be more like Stones' inverted role - not as FPL friendly - a frustrating 'assists the assister'.

What no one is considering here is that Klopp, now he has 2 proper pressing AMs, could revert to his heavy-metal 4-3-3. That would be better for Trent's FPL prospects, and also bring Robbo back into play.

Another possibility in either formation is that with Mac A and Slobby both able to provide quality passes into a #10, it could be a huge benefit to Darwin if he plays centre, although Gakpo did great there last night. If Jota is a regular starter coming in off the left at the expense of Diaz, he'd be very interesting too.

    1. jack88
      • 4 Years

Exactly. Last season Klopp used to operate with milner fabinho elliot who lacked Creativity and was boring. It was trent who did all of that. Now they got mac allister- excellent in holding, distributing the ball ( more like thiago role), they got szob.

That doesnt mean trent Won't do any attracting works. Its trent.

But i can't see spending 8 m for a defender from a team where everyone has attacking potential. The points will be distributed

Hard to make any judgement until we see Fabinho's replacement in action - whoever that turns out to be. You're right though, I can see 4-3-3 making a comeback.

      1. Andy_Social
        • 13 Years

That's true enough. Fabinho is still good enough at the base of a midfield 3 with those #8s ahead of him, but he gets injured and looks like bogging off to Sandland anyway. Lavia would be a great repalcement but is young and too much to depend on for the whole season.

Liverpool could revert to 4-3-3 but surely pre-season will show either way.

SofaScore have Trent lined up in the middle in a 4-3-3 and his first half heatmap has him as attacking midfielder towards the right.

after doing some reading up on him, that Maatsen guy is interesting, he spent last season on loan at Burnley as a left back, played 38, scored 4, with 6 assists, and was in the championship team of the season, the really interesting part is Poch using him as a winger in this game, subbing off for Sterling in the second half, so perhaps Poch sees him as competition for Sterling maybe ?

unfortunately FPL don't have him in the game yet as i was hoping he'd be there as a 4m defender, but i think given his form last season he will probably be priced as 4.5m defender with Chelsea, or even as high as 5m if he goes back to Burnley before they add him to FPL

i didn't follow the championship at all last season so i had no idea who he was, i was surprised to see he already has extensive experience in lower tier English football already so that should stand him in good stead at whichever club he ends up at, but yeah he probably has a better chance of breaking into the Chelsea side as a winger rather than a defender tbh

My reply was meant for Fantasyclub above.

I don't think Havertz will simply reprise Xhaka's role. Rice covers the defensive part of what Xhaka did; Havertz will be more offensive. I can see Havertz being a sort of left-sided #8 and Odegaard the right-sided one, but I think they'll be very fluid in their positioning. It's going to be very excited to watch Arsenal attacking, but in FPL terms I can see the points being very much shared around. Hard to see who comes out on top from the Mids and Jesus though.

Arsenal had a mostly lopsided attack last season, with most of the attacks coming down Xhaka's left side thanks to Zinchenko moving into midfield, but i was going through the player ratings for the Arsenal game earlier on the Football London website (usually clickbait awful i know), but the quote they said about Timber really piqued my interest, they said he was basically Zinchenko but at right back the way he was constantly moving into midfield, so you're right about the fluidity of the Arsenal attack, Arsenal can now Lopside either side which in theory should help Odegaard and Saka's right side in some games

I'm intrigued by how Arteta plans to use Timber. Given how innovative Arteta is, I have a suspicion he's got something unique in mind. Some matches, he'll start with Zinky as inverted left FB with White on the right, and in other matches he'll start with Timber as inverted FB on the right with Tierney starting on the left. Again, super-exciting, but from an FPL perspective, I'd be looking at Gabriel and Saliba as assets to own for security of starts.

yeah i don't think Zinchenko and Timber will ever start together with everything else being fluid

here is the exact quote from Football London

"Jurrien Timber: A right sided Zinchenko essentially. Found himself almost on the centre circle at times just as the Ukrainian does on the other side of the pitch. An interesting insight into the plans for him this season. 6"

When you say Arteta is innovative, do you mean innovative in terms of copying whatever Pep has recently done?

No, that's the thing about Arteta. The way I see it, he got a brilliant education working with Pep, but what he hasn't done is simply take a City blueprint and try to copy it into Arsenal. With Pep, he learnt how to think like an innovative tactician - he's his own man, but is (nearly) as tactically smart as Pep.
The defence might look tactically similar, but where he's going with Arsenal's attack this season is quite distinct from what City are doing. You can see by the way he took and utilised Jesus, who was unwanted by Pep with his evolving style, that he's not mimicking Pep.

Yep, scoring the 5th goal in a 5-0 against MLS “Allstars” in a preseason friendly will surely proof that he is world class.

Then guy is world class. It is obvious. My opinion has well and truly been changed purely on DBW's well thought out argument. Consider me a Havertz non hater now.
