Liverpool were desperate to sign those “unproven” DMs
They’ve signed him out of desperation lol.
And shows how naive you are if you actually think Caicedo and Lavia aren’t good.

I’ve no doubt about their quality tbh.

Haaland with 1 shot in 90 minutes (not on target) after 0 shots v Arsenal (and 0 touches in the box) in the community shield doesn't exactly look great. I know he often only needs a half chance but seems like City are struggling to even make those for him

away from the Etihad last year he blanked vs Leipzig, Real, Inter, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, United and just 1 goal against Newcastle, Arsenal and Bayern (pen). Like you say City could be worse creative wise this season as well

This game has solidified my Salah (c) for this week. City seem to lack rhythm and fluency. Newcastle are better than Sevilla too so I would be very surprised if Haaland hauls huge against them.

    1. Lord of Ings
      • 10 Years
      2 years, 8 months ago

      Hardly works that way.
Sevilla have always shown up in European competitions, and Mendilibar is a pretty good coach.
I don’t expect city to thrash Newcastle either but you’re undermining Sevilla here. It’s not always how one appears on paper!

      1. Lord of Ings
        • 10 Years

And Salah was always the better captain irrespective of this game, Iraola loves playing a high line, perfect for Salah Darwin to exploit.

They definitely are imo. People forget Newcastle finished 4th last year. I think they are oddly one of the most underrated teams this year. Everyone is expecting them to finish like 6th or even worse but they've strengthened and their midfield is elite and they have two great forwards.

While adding Tonali and Barnes… they should get top 4 it’s just whether they can remain lucky with injuries and keep performing at their current level when CL kicks in

They are very strong. But fitness could be an issue and also depends on their priorities. If they give champions league too much priority, it could spoil their season.

Sevilla are not pushovers, very well organised team.
Obviously it's all subjective but in my opinion the game between Newcastle and Sevilla would be much closer than you think.

Some teams are built for Knockout European football.
Real Madrid and Sevilla are just different beasts irrespective of squad strength in Europe.

Sevilla have consistently punched above their weight for years irrespective of opposition.
They’re completely different in La Liga but have always done well in Europe.
You’ll be surprised some of the opposition they’ve beaten in Europe in the last few years if you’re aware..

Newcastle could well beat City I think. They have lots of energy all over the pitch. Man City seem lethargic/disjointed/ going through the motions, hoping for a a piece of magic.

It would be madness not to captain Salah, you would immediately be giving up your 'edge' if you had him and didn't captain him.

What to do with Foden? Not watched the game so not really placed to make a point but it doesn’t sound like hauls are imminent. He’s one of those explosive players (but like Jota) and you need to pick the righ times to own them. Get the feeling now isn’t one of those times!
