How many starters do you have with a home fixture in GW2 ? Just 4 here (Haaland, Salah, Cash, Turner) but I suspect most will have an away heavy squad this GW.

Henry vs Fulham or saliba vs Palace. I'm currently starting Henry. Don't think arsenal are more likely to keep a clean sheet than Brentford this week and Henry has more attacking potential especially against Fulham. Would you agree? If not can you state a case for saliba starting instead?

Saliba has a decent enough goal presence and I think Arsenal are more likely to get a clean sheet than Brentford.

Under each comment, there is a permalink button that looks like the link of a chain. Click on that to load the page directly on that comment. You can copy and paste the URL or bookmark it for future use. I tend to edit the URL when posting to make it neater. FFS could do more to make this process more intuitive and user-friendly. They could also add functionality to search articles for their content and comments, not just the headline.

Vaccination was primarily for the good of those with the highest risk of death, whether you are one of them or not. But well done for being such an ox!

      1. Hotdogs for Tea

It has now been demonstrated that those unvaccinated were not of a higher risk of spreading Covid than those vaccinated and didn't have a higher viral load and actually those vaccinated lived a more hedonistic lifestyle (thinking they were protected and invincible) and were bigger spreaders ... time to stop demonising them

Seems like you confuse concepts here so I shouldn't even start. But vaccination wasn't to prevent spread but to prevent serious illness and death.

            • 10 Years

I think the prevailing message at the time was that it would prevent spread. And if you took a deeper interest, the messaging for experts was more like, "well we think it might, but we don't know yet". At least, that's what I remember of the twilight zone

            1. Zalk
              • 14 Years
              2 years, 6 months ago

You've just contradicted yourself in the same couple of sentences; saying experts wasn't sure and that the prevailing message was that it would prevent spread. Not sure what country you live in but in mine it was never about preventing spread.

              1. Deulofail
                • 10 Years
                2 years, 6 months ago

The prevailing message wasn't really from experts was it? Mass media are not run by scientists in any country!

                  • 14 Years
                  2 years, 6 months ago

Well, I don't think media made something up out of thin air, do you? Media do tend to angle information a bit though. Also, "Prevailing message" sounds very arbitrary to me, not even sure what you mean by it.

Here's what I usually do. An expert appears on media, like on tv in an interview, and you listen to what that person has to say. Hopefully he knows more than me and I'll trust what he says. The expert has the information, media reports it.

                  1. Deulofail
                    • 10 Years

If only! Most coverage isn't direct from experts (e.g. interviews on TV). Some of it is second-hand reporting. Most of it is commentary and other noise from pundits and entertainers. The majority of people aren't exposing themselves only to expert opinions or otherwise able to effectively separate them from the noise.

You can see from this thread that there are people who believe the vaccine was intended to stop the spread of covid. That tells us a bit about the messaging of the time when they made their decisions, I think.

The masses of young healthy people who got vaccinated surely did so in large part because they believed it was for the greater good of everybody. Mandatory vaccinations were even a distinct possibility for this reason. Why would people be vilifying people for not being vaccinated if it was only about the personal health of the individual? I can't really explain those phenomena, personally, without talking about the fear of spreading the virus, and trying to stop it with vaccinations, which I think was everywhere.

Perhaps I'm overstating it as I wasn't that plugged into mainstream media at the time, nor really to any particular country's media.

Well no, they pushed it based on it "eliminating symptoms and stopping spread" ie almost 100% efficacy for all, then gradually changed the narrative as time went on

The "take the experimental gene therapy to prevent you from killing your granny" narrative was part of the pys op

Thank you it will always be with me, but yes so much better. Thank You

I have a movement disorder caused by an SSRI (i had akathisia for 5 years and tardive dystonia for 7 before a deep brain stimulation operation), and now thankfully fully recovered and am a researcher for http://www.akathisiaalliance.org. (part-time).

They said at the time this was impossible, from SSRI's, but details were first admitted in 1988, and were not published within the pharmaceutical industries to the FDA until 1998 (patency ran out for Prozac and Paxil at the time), and really was not public knowledge at all until recently where it is mentioned on the pamphlet these days. It has been well known in antipsychotics but not in benzo WD, or some antibiotics and antiemetics as well,

To say i do not trust the FDA, CDC, MHRA, or the EDA is an understatement.

From the groups I've been part of there is a mix of people who have had the vaccine and those who haven't (mainly of those who got covid before the vaccine existed).

The second time I caught Covid, I was already receiving treatment for a Lymphangitis infection and that may have added to the problems with my nervous system.

It would be interesting to know your reasons for not getting one. I mean, I don't particularly like needles either, but...

Vaccinations are one of the most remarkable biotechnological achievements in human history, and the free and timely distribution of them shows what can happen when the state is genuinely motivated (albeit mainly by selfish motives in the case of this government) to make a positive impact on public health.

Unless you have an underlying condition which makes vaccination risky, there is literally no reason not to have one if it's available. being unvaccinated is a threat to you and everyone else you come into contact with. Many people across the world would have loved the change to receive one, millions of whom have died waiting (and will continue to die waiting).

Meanwhile, non-100% vaccine take-up creates an environment where mutations can develop and thrive, and put the health of the global population at greater risk.

So to say I get my knowledge from TV and basically that I’m a sheep, whilst he has come out with stuff like that, is quite something. The likes of Icke are scam artists, who prey on individuals, to make them feel smart and a sense of importance of “being in the know”.

Undertested experimental tech MRNA therapy (not standard vaccines) pushed on the population by the likes of you, causing massive rates of serious adverse events (severe illness and deaths) in people who dont need it

So vaccines were safe and effective all throughout history until suddenly we get to Covid 19, a disease so devastating and far reaching that everyone was effected in some way, everyone has an opinion about, and all of a sudden, this is the first time we get a scam vaccine and a dangerous vaccination agenda?

It's a good job people were paying attention because if it were a less dangerous virus, presumably nobody would have noticed the scam?

I don't think it's a controversial opinion to suggest, as I am doing now, that in as competitive and expert a field of immunology, not one credible (and I mean credible) expert has blown the whistle and exposed (with evidence) exactly how and why this scam was perpetrated. Because of they did, they would be in line for international fame and fortune; probably a Nobel Prize. It would be severely tempting. It happens in all other branches of science. But in this case, for perhaps the first time ever, they have all closed ranks and left it to the citizen scientists among us to expose the truth?

That's less believable to me than the other side of Occam's razor: that the greatest immunological minds in the world did that they always do: came up with an almost totally safe solution in record time and saved millions of lives.

To repeat, we are talking about Covid MRNA therapy, which is *not* a normal vaccine, but uses an entirely different technology/mechanism

This new experimental tech was barely tested, and its roll out meant the population were effectively guinea pigs.

They *knew* that the MRNA tech had serious issues even prior to global roll out

The actual credible sources, as opposed to pharma/government shills, are increasingly confirming the above

I have no doubt that the mRNA vaccine was imperfect and, in many cases, caused significant harm.

I do doubt that they did more harm than good. The problem is, we'll never know, since the alternative was letting up on all covid restrictions and letting the virus run riot. That would undoubtedly (to my mind) have done more damage. But we will of course never know.

As to rushing it. Of course it was rushed, becuase elements of societies were on the verge of tearing up all covid restrictions and inviting maximum infection rates. Does any of this mean it was a "scam"? I don't know how anyone could genuinely believe that.

As for being a govt or pharma shill, that makes me smile. Not for its wit or novelty (I've seen it all over right wing twitter for years). But I detest both. I can guarantee I am less in thrall to either than anyone you care to name, including yourself x

I think quite a few people are not against vaccination in general, but were specifically skeptical in regards to the COVID-vaccine due to the short development time and insufficient information on long term effects due to being rushed to the public.
Some may also have remembered the adverse effects from a swine flu vaccine around 2009-2010 which took years to be known.

So I'm sure many people had their reasons, apart from being full-on "anti-vaxxers".

I don't know about you, but I wish they had taken the normal 5 to 10 years to achieve vaccine approval because I was enjoying not leaving the house. Also I'm glad it takes months to fix pots holes, why go faster I say.

That's not exactly the point here.

Obviously there was great pressure in regards to getting a vaccine ready and distributed with the whole world in lockdown, so a normal approval process was not possible.

I'm just giving a reason for why some individuals did not feel that the vaccine were the right thing for them specifically, without going into the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories.

I'm no expert, but wasn't the short development time due to prior knowledge of cononaviruses and similar vaccines already in development..

"Researchers were not starting from scratch when they learned about SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

SARS-CoV-2 is a member of the coronavirus family. According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious DiseasesTrusted Source, there are hundreds of coronaviruses. These include four that can cause the common cold, as well as the coronaviruses that sparked the SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome, epidemic in 2002 and the emergence of MERS, or Middle East respiratory syndrome, in 2012.

Dr. Eric J. Yager, an associate professor of microbiology at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Albany, NY, told MNT that scientists have been studying coronaviruses for more than 50 years. This meant that scientists had existing data on the structure, genome, and life cycle of this type of virus."

        My reason is clear.

I said this after that stats came out just after the Omricon variant arrived, and was told I was anti-vaccination, even though i was vaccinated, as my Parents wanted me to, as I had to move back during Covid times due to financial difficulties.

When the Omricon variant arrived, i decided to do one more, but I followed the actual data behind the scenes and not the data that was published for the general public.

I have a movement disorder cause by an SSRI (i had akathisia for 5 years and tardive dystonia for 7 before a deep brain stimulation operation), and now thankfully fully recovered and am a researcher for http://www.akathisiaalliance.org. (part-time)

        https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ene.15217

The fact that the mRNA vaccinations had almost as high a risk in people than long covid, meant i really didn't want to take them long term, and in the under 40's, evidence started to show that vaccinations for myocarditis from the vaccine were more dangerous than the vaccine.
(not scientific at all , but you do get less people collapising n football grounds these days due to heart conditions/complaints)

        But in Dec 2021.....

The most recent and comprehensive research suggests that when compared with SARS-CoV-2 infection:
        • Two shots of Moderna carry a higher risk of myocarditis for both men and women under 40 years old.
        • Both a single shot and two shots of Moderna carry a higher risk of myocarditis for men under age 40.
        • Two shots of Pfizer carry a higher risk of myocarditis for men under age 40.
        • Two shots of AstraZeneca carry a higher risk of myocarditis for men under age 40.
        • A Pfizer booster carries a higher risk of myocarditis for men under age 40.
        • A Moderna booster carries a higher risk of myocarditis for men under age 40 (this isn’t confirmed in the data above but is almost certainly true given that both one and two shots of Moderna carry a higher risk).

To be clear, I’m not necessarily saying no young males should ever get the Covid vaccine. That is a decision that should be left to the individual (or their parents, if they’re a minor) and their physician, based on a number of different factors.
My point here is that we need to be honest and open about the risks, and we need a more nuanced approach. If a young person is going to proceed with vaccination, the studies I reviewed above clearly indicate that the particular vaccine chosen and how it is administered (i.e., one shot, two shots, three shots, etc.) makes a huge difference in terms of risk-benefit.
For example, a single shot of the Johnson & Johnson or AstraZeneca vaccine is likely to carry a far lower risk of myocarditis than three Moderna shots.
Why aren’t our public health officials in the U.S. or UK acknowledged this i dont know.?
Some other industrialized countries have already banned or restricted the Moderna vaccine for young people. Germany and France did this back in November 2021. Five Scandinavian countries, including Finland, Denmark, and Sweden, did it in October 2021, and Iceland halted Moderna for all age groups

At least we stop at vaccinating children under 5, something the CDC in America did not do.

I don't believe I said that, but don't let facts get in the way of your rambling. I suggest you calm down and concentrate on FPL instead, you won't be able to wildcard every week

I’ve learnt something as well, nice one fella.

It’s quite fun clicking on FFS links from the past. Posters I remember, but had forgotten about….

Everyone I’ve clicked on, I’ve found one of my posts either on that page or the subsequent one.

I always used to tell myself I’d get a life; but I fear it’s too bleeding late for that.

What more does this article offer than any article from any dedicated FPL manager would?

I miss articles like Big Numbers, Say What? etc which offered actual info in an interesting way.

I don't think they post these types of articles to impress dedicated FPL managers like yourself. It's a GW1 review, a team reveal and some thoughts from the general, that's it.

Got unlucky by starting with Mings.

Is it a waste of a transfer to move him on to Gusto before a fall in price? Essentially 0.5m gained at this stage. The down side is of course that Gusto may be out of the team in 3/4 weeks
